Control Module, Theft Protection
Page 22
Control Module, Theft Protection
The theft protection functions for the alarm and immobilizer are part of TWICE and are controlled by the system control module. The main task of the control module for the anti-theft alarm function is to monitor the status of the sensors continuously as a central unit when the alarmis armed, trip an alarm via the siren and/or direction indicators if a break-in occurs and prevent the car from starting via the immobilizer.
The control module contains a processor in which a fixed control program is stored in a PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory). As differentmarkets have special requirements for the function of anti-theft alarms, this can be programmed to suit the market concerned. There are also severaloptions for changing the function according to the customer's preferences.
The module is programmed using Tech 2 and the information is stored in an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable PROM). The previous programming isdeleted when a new program is entered. The stored programming is retained in the event of a power failure.

Alarm Module: Testing and Inspection
Test Readings, Control Module Connections Scope
The following pages contain readings and instructions for measuring signals and levels on the main instrument unit and its control module.
Remember
- Note the test conditions, and use common sense when assessing the test results.
- First check that the control module has a power supply and is grounded.
- Then check all sensor inputs and signals from other systems.
- Finally, check the control module outputs. Remember that the test readings do not indicate whether or not the actuator is in working order.
- If any reading is not OK, consult the wiring diagram to trace the leads, connectors or components which ought to be checked more thoroughly.
- The test readings apply to a correctly calibrated Fluke 88/97.
The readings %(+) and ms(+) indicate the pulse ratio and pulse length. A test instrument capable of measuring both pulse ratio and pulse lengthmust be used. The "+" sign denotes a positive trigger pulse (TRIG+).

The PMM control module is connected to the bus and receives, processes and outputs information (communicates) via the bus with other systems(control modules) in the car that are connected to the bus. The control module controls the following functions:
^ Door mirror position memory settings. ^ Operating the door mirrors to the stored position. ^ Tilting the passenger door mirror when reverse gear is engaged and the tilt-down button is pressed. ^ Diagnostic tool communication. ^ Communication with the I bus
If B+ is disconnected, the programmed settings will be retained in the control module.NOTE:
Diagnostics
Page 70
The control module monitors its internal functions and the components in the PMM system. In the event of an internal fault in the control module, diagnostic trouble code B1605 is generated and neither of the door mirrors can be operated with the seat's memory buttons or the separate door mirrorswitches.
