Control Module, Theft Protection
Control Module
Control Module, Theft Protection
The theft protection functions for the alarm and immobilizer are part of TWICE and are controlled by the system control module. The main task of the control module for the anti-theft alarm function is to monitor the status of the sensors continuously as a central unit when the alarmis armed, trip an alarm via the siren and/or direction indicators if a break-in occurs and prevent the car from starting via the immobilizer. The control module contains a processor in which a fixed control program is stored in a PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory). As differentmarkets have special requirements for the function of anti-theft alarms, this can be programmed to suit the market concerned. There are also severaloptions for changing the function depending on the customer's preferences. The module is programmed using Tech 2 and the information is stored in an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable PROM). The previous programming isdeleted when a new program is entered. The stored programming is retained in the event of a power failure.

Alarm Module: Testing and Inspection
Test Readings, Control Module Connections Scope
Values and instructions for measuring voltages on the control modules will be found under the headings in the respective sections.
Remember
- Note the test conditions and use common sense when assessing the test result.
- The measuring values shown are with the ignition ON, unless otherwise stated.
- First check that the control module has a power supply and is grounded.
- Then check all sensor inputs and signals from other systems.
- Lastly, check the control module outputs. Remember that the measured values do not tell us whether or not the control module is functioning.
- If any reading is not OK, consult the wiring diagram to trace the leads, connectors or components which should be checked more thoroughly.
- The specified test readings refer to those obtained with a calibrated Fluke 88/97.
Test readings in %(+) and ms(+) show the pulse ratio and pulse duration of the signal. A test instrument capable of giving pulse ratio and pulseduration readings must be used. The sign indicates a positive trigger pulse, TRIG+.

Power Seat Control Module: Service Precautions
Before Changing A Control Module
It is our experience that the majority of control modules returned to us for repair or replacement under warranty are in perfect working order. In thesecases, fitting a new control module has obviously not cured the fault. Therefore, go through all the following points carefully before changing the controlmodule:
1. Check the latest edition of TIS2000 to see whether the problem can be solved with a control module software update (for control modules that can be reprogrammed).
2. Check all grounding points and the power supply to the control module.3. Check with a diagnostic tool that all the readings are plausible (several readings can affect one function).4. Check with the diagnostics tool that all activations function normally. (Malfunction in one output circuit can affect another output circuit).5. If the malfunction remains, the control module must be replaced.
Page 85
> Relays and Modules > Relays and Modules - Body and Frame > Power Seat Control Module > Component Information > Diagrams > Page 63

Page 86
6. Control modules are sensitive to electrostatic discharges. Great care must be taken to follow the following procedure to avoid damaging internal components in the control module:-
Keep the control module in its packaging for as long as possible.
- Never touch the pins of a control module with your hands or clothing.
- Ground yourself by touching part of the car's body/engine. Unplug the connector from the car's control module.
- Place the exchanged control module in its return packaging without touching the pins.
- Ground yourself by touching part of the car's body/engine. Plug in the connector to the car's control module.

The PSM is located on a bracket under the driver's seat and has three connectors; K1, K2 and K3. The motors with Hall sensors and switches are powered from the control module. The control module controls the following functions:
- memory settings for driver's seat position
- movement of driver's seat to memorized position
- communication with diagnostic tool (Tech 2)
- communication with I-bus.
The driver's seat is adjusted and the settings stored when the ignition is ON (+15 and +54) or when one of the front doors is open. The information on+54 is received by PSM via the bus from DICE, and the information on front door open/closed from TWICE. When the ignition is ON (+15 or +54), the seat can be adjusted.
Page 91

> Page 67
9-3 Viggen Coupe (9400) L4-2.3L Turbo (B235) HO (1999)
When the ignition is OFF and one of the front doors is open, the seat can be adjusted for 20 minutes. If the door is closed and then opened again, afurther period of 20 minutes begins. The seat can also be adjusted for 30 seconds after a door has been closed and the ignition is OFF.
The motors adjust the seat lengthways and in height as well as the change the reclining angle of the backrest. Adjustment is continuous with certainlimitations. These apply to the motors for lengthways adjustment (357a/e) and height adjustment (c/g rear and b/f front). The following operations cannotbe performed.
- Simultaneous adjustment of 357 a/e up and 357 c/g up/down.
- Simultaneous adjustment of 357 a/e forward and 357 b/f up/down.
Page 92
The control module monitors the current consumption of each motor when it is being operated and counts the pulses from the Hall sensors between thevarious seat movements. The Hall sensors are fitted in each motor and are connected between pins 3 and 4. When a setting has been stored in memory,SID sounds an acoustic confirmation via the I-bus from PSM. The memory settings are stored in a non-volatile memory, which retains the settings evenwhen the control module is not powered.

+30
Power (+30 circuit) is supplied via fuse 16 to control module pin 6.
+15
Power (+15 circuit) is supplied via fuse 17 to control module pin 1.
Grounding
The control module is grounded via pin 7.
Diagnostics
Page 95
The control module monitors its internal functions and the components in the PSM system. In case of an internal control module fault, diagnostic trouble code B1605 will be generated and the seat cannot be adjusted using the switch or memorysettings. If the +30 power supply to the control module is missing, the seat cannot be adjusted in any way.If the +15 power supply to the control module is missing, the seat can be adjusted if one of the front doors is open.No diagnostic communication is possible if the power supply is missing.
