GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Keep guards in place and in working order.
2. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Form habit of checking to see that keys and
wrenches are removed from tool before turning it on.
3. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents.
4. Don’t use in dangerous environment. Don’t use power tools in damp or wet location,
or expose them to rain. Keep work area well lit.
5. Keep children away. All visitors should be kept at a safe distance from work area.
6. Make workshop childproof with padlocks, master switches or by removing starter keys.
7. Don’t force the tool. It will perform better and safer at the rate for which it was
designed.
8. Use right tool. Don’t force tool or attachment to do a job for which it was not designed.
9. Wear proper apparel. No loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets or other jew-
ellery which may get caught in moving parts. Non-slip footwear is recommended. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
10. Always use safety glasses. Also use face or dust mask if grinding operation is dusty. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses. They are NOT safety glasses.
11. Secure Work. Use clamps or a vise to hold work when practical. It’s safer than using your hand and it frees both hands to operate tool.
12. Don’t overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
13. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools sharp and clean for best and safest performance.
Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
14. Disconnect tools before servicing and when changing accessories such as grinding wheels.
15. Reduce the risk of unintentional starting. Make sure switch is in OFF position before plugging in.
16. Use recommended accessories. Consult the owner’s manual for recommended accessories. The use of improper accessories may cause risk of injury to persons.
17. Never stand on tool. Serious injury could occur if the tool is tipped or if the grinding wheel is unintentionally contacted.
18. Check damaged parts. Before further use of the tool, a guard or other part that is dam­aged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting and any other conditions that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced.
19. Never leave tool running unattended. Turn power off. Don’t leave tool until it has come to a complete stop.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR BENCH GRINDER
1. Disconnect power supply plug before replacing wheels or covers.
2. Replace cracked wheel immediately.
3. Always use guards and eyeshields.
4. Ensure tool rests and eyeshields are properly adjusted.
5. Do not overtighten wheel nut.
6. Adjust distance between wheel and tool rest to maintain 1.6mm (1/16”) or less sepa­ration as the diameter of the wheel decreases with use.
7. Use grinding wheel suitable for speed of grinder - above 3600 RPM.
8. Ensure wheel rotate freely before switching on power.
9. Stand beside the bench grinder when switching on power.
10. After fitting new grinding wheel, leave machine running for at least one minute. If the wheel is faulty it will break during this test period.
11. Don’t operate the grinder with the wheel guard off.
12. Don’t use the grinding wheel to cut anything.
13. Don’t use anything to overload the the grinding wheel.
14. Use a wheel dresser only to remove burrs on the grinding wheel.

UNPACKING
Unpack the carton and check your machine to see that the following parts are included.
1. Main Body (switch and electrical cord are connected).
2. Accessories:
• One set of tool rests and necessary screws, nuts and washers.
• One set of eyeshields, spark breakers and necessary screws, nuts and washers.
NOTE: If you find any parts missing or damaged, contact the dealer for exchange
or replacement.

VOLTAGE
Ensure the supply voltage is the same as the voltage stated on the nameplate.
GROUNDING
1. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resis­tance for electrical current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with an electric cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounded plug. The plug must be plugged into a matching outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
2. Do not modify the plug if it will not fit the outlet. If necessary, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
3. Check with a qualified electrician or serviceman if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the tool is properly grounded.
4. Use only 3-wire extension cords that have 3-pin plugs and 3-inlet sockets that accept the tool’s plug.
5. Repair or replace damaged or worn cord immediately.
6. If unsure, check with manufacturer or a qualified electrician.
TECHNICAL DATA
1. This machine uses ball bearings for longer tool life.
2. Supplied with one fine and one coarse grinding wheel.
3. Strong power for heavier duty applications.
4. Removable wheel guards for simplified wheel changes.
5. Adjustable tool rests to give you the correct working angle.
6. Accessories of eyeshields, spark breakers and tool rests are included.
ASSEMBLY
1. Fix tool rests with screws, nuts and washers supplied. Keep tool rests vertical to grinding wheels. Tool rests are adjustable to maintain the correct distance from grinding wheels 1.6mm (1/16”).
2. Assemble eyeshields and spark breakers by using bolts, washers and knurled nuts sup­plied loose.
3. Install eyeshield assemblies to wheel guards. Remove top wheel cover bolt, washer and nut and insert spark breaker. Replace bolt, washer and nut. Adjust to desired work­ing position and tighten firmly.
NOTE: The height and angle of eyeshields can be adjusted up and down to the user’s
requirement.

BENCH ATTACHMENT
Fasten grinder to work bench before operating this machine. There is a hole on either side of the base which should be used to secure the grinder.
2 x 10mm diameter bolts should be used to secure the grinder to the bench or stand.
OPERATION
1. Eyeshields Adjustment
The see-through eyeshield allows users to see operation clearly, work precisely. Eyeshields can be adjusted up and down.
2. Tool Rest Adjustment
The appropriate adjustment of tool rests provides the correct working angle to do efficient grinding. This adjustment can be done by regulating its related screw. Due to normal wear of the grinding wheel, it is necessary to adjust the tool rests from time to time.
3. Changing the Grinding Wheels
To replace worn grinding wheels, the necessary steps are listed below:
A. Disconnect the power supply, disassemble outside covers left or right. B. Remove the three screws and nuts holding the outside wheel guard. C. Hold grinding wheel firmly. Remove the nut and flange on the shaft by using
proper tool. Left wheel nut has left hand thread. Right wheel nut has right hand thread.
D. Take off used wheel and replace with a new one. E. Assemble the flange, nut and outside cover in reverse order. To ensure good
balance, make sure the surface between the grinding wheel and the flanges are smooth.
F. Replace the three screws and nuts holding the outside wheel guard and replace. G. Switch on the machine and let it run for one minute idle rotation to check before
using under load.

AUTO ON LIGHT
Your Ryobi Bench Grinder comes complete with an Auto On Adjustable Light which allows you to illuminate the grinding wheels and workpiece when operating in dark areas.
The light will automatically come on when the Grinder is switched on. When Grinder is not in use, switch off the tool to avoid overheating of the lamp.
GLOBE REPLACEMENT
When the globe is worn out and will no longer work *gently remove the bulb from the holder by pushing in and turning anti­clockwise. Use only Ryobi genuine replace­ment part 12 volt, 21 Watt globe Part No. HBG618/70. To replace *gently push the globe into the insert and turn clockwise.
*IMPORTANT: Do not use force as this could lead to the globe breaking and serious injury.
COOLANT TRAY
The in-built coolant storage dip tray allows you to cool overheated workpieces. Simply pull out the tray and half fill with appropriate coolant. (Fig.2)
WHEEL DRESSING TOOL
(MODELS HBG625 & HBG825)
After extensive use, the grinding wheels will accumulate in-ground metal build up. To clean the wheels detach the Wheel Dressing Tool from the storage holder. (Fig.3)
Rest the Wheel Dressing Tool on the tool rest approx. 5mm from the grinding wheel.
Switch on the grinder and wait a few sec­onds until the grinding wheel reaches full revolution then slowly move the Dressing Tool to gently touch against the grinding wheel holding firmly with two fingers. Do not use excessive pressure. (Fig.4)
CAUTION: Do not allow the grinding wheel and Dressing Tool to touch before the grind­ing wheel has reached high speed as this may cause the Dressing tool to be flicked from your grasp causing serious injury.

HOME USE WARRANTY
24 Months Home Use Warranty
Subject to the warranty conditions below, this RYOBI tool, (hereinafter called "the product"), is warranted for home use only by Ryobi Australia Pty. Ltd. (hereinafter called "The Company") to be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of 24 months from the date of original purchase covering both parts and labour. Under the terms of this warranty, the repair or replacement of any part shall be the opinion of the Company or its authorised agent. Should service become necessary during the warranty period, the owner should return the product to their nearest authorised RYOBI Service Centre. In order to obtain warranty service, the owner must include the Sales Docket and Warranty Certificate to confirm date of purchase. This Product is sold by the dealer or agent as principal and the dealer has no authority from the Company to give any additional warranty or guarantee on the Company's behalf except as herein contained or herein referred to.
Warranty Conditions
This warranty only applies provided that the Product has been used in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations under normal use and reasonable care (in the opinion of the Company) and such warranty does not cover consumable components, damage, malfunction or failure resulting from misuse, neglect,
abuse, or used for a purpose for which it was not designed or is not suited and no repairs, alterations or modifications have been attempted by other than an Authorised Service Agent. This guarantee will not apply if the tool is damaged by accident or if repairs arise from normal wear and tear. The Company accepts no additional liability pursuant to this warranty for the costs of travelling or transportation of the Product or parts to and from the service dealer or agent - which costs are not included in this warranty. Certain legislation, including the Trade Practices Act, 1974 (as amended) and other state and territorial laws give rights to the buyer and impose liability on the seller in certain circumstances. Nothing herein shall have the effect of excluding, restricting or modifying any condition, warranty, right or liability imposed, to the extent only that such exclusion, restriction or modification would render any term herein void.
30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee
If the owner is not completely satisfied with the performance of the product, for quality reasons, the Product should be returned to the Authorised RYOBI Dealer from whom it was purchased within 30 days of the original date of purchase for refund or exchange.
