BEFORE USE
Remove all packaging from the kettle and its stand. Before using the kettle for the first time, fill to the MAX mark, boil, then discard the boiled water. Do this three times, then rinse the kettle out with cold water. This should remove any dust, residues, etc. from the kettle.
HOW TO USE Positioning
Position the stand on a flat stable surface, as close to a wall socket as possible. Route the power cord so that it does not overhang the work surface, and cannot be caught accidentally.
Opening the lid
Warning: If the kettle has just boiled, it will be full of steam, which will escape
as soon as the lid is opened. Keep your hands, face, etc. clear of the area above the kettle. Check that the switch is in the ‘Off’ (up) position. Remove the kettle from the stand and set it down on a flat stable surface. Grasp the lid knob then lift the lid up and away from the kettle, to prevent the steam swirling round your hand.
Filling
Remove the kettle from the stand. Remove the lid and fill the kettle via the lid aperture. Fill with at least 2 cups of water, but do not allow the water level to rise above the MAX mark on the
inside of the kettle. Do not overfill the kettle. If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected. Check that the filter is in place. Replace the lid, and check it is fully closed,
otherwise the kettle may not switch off when it boils.
4
Switching on
Check that the switch is in the ‘Off’ (up) position. Plug the stand into the wall socket. Switch the socket on. Gently position the kettle on the stand, taking care not to spill any water. Press the switch down. The Power-on indicator light will light up, and the kettle will start to heat up. When the water has boiled the kettle will switch off automatically, the switch will return to the ‘Off’ position and the light will go out. The kettle can be switched off at any time before the water boils by pressing the switch up.

General
When you lift the kettle from the base, you may see moisture on the surface
of the base. This is the steam used to switch the kettle off automatically, which then condenses and is allowed to escape via vents in the underside of the kettle. This is perfectly normal, and should not be a cause for alarm. Important: Ensure that the kettle has switched off automatically, or is
switched off manually and is disconnected, before moving it. Remove the kettle from the stand before attempting to pour. When filling or carrying the kettle, do not tilt it backwards, as this may allow water to pass through the steam aperture on to the control area. Should this occur, the kettle must be allowed to dry before use. Sit it somewhere warm for 12 hours before re-use. To avoid the risk of splashing, pour slowly and do not over-tilt the kettle.
Insufficient water
Do not switch the kettle on unless it contains at least two cups of water. Misuse of this kind will shorten the life of the element and your kettle. If the kettle is accidentally switched on when it does not contain sufficient water, a boil-dry device will automatically switch
it off. Unplug and remove
the kettle off the stand and wait until the kettle has cooled down fully before filling, as the element will be hot and spitting may occur. If you leave it on the stand, plugged in after a boil-dry, it will cycle on and off until the element burns out.

CARE AND CLEANING
Cleaning
Switch the kettle off (press the switch up), unplug the stand from the wall socket, and let the kettle cool down completely before cleaning. Remove the kettle from the stand. Wipe the stand, outside and inside surfaces of the kettle with a damp cloth. If necessary, you may use a little household detergent. If you use detergent inside the kettle, rinse thoroughly afterwards to remove all trace of the detergent and avoid tainting the water. Ensure that all connectors and sockets are kept dry. Do not immerse the kettle or stand in water or any other liquid. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners or solvents.
6
Descale regularly – even in soft water areas
Limescale may be white, coloured, even rusty-looking, but it’s normally
visible.
Phosphate scale isn’t generally visible, but it’s there, even in soft water areas.
When water is heated, the minerals solidify. This makes the water appear
cloudy. It may form a film on the surface of the water or on the walls and floor
of the kettle. It may look like thin pieces of plastic in the water.
All scale causes overheating, reduces the kettle’s life, and may trigger the
boil-dry cut-out.
So, even with soft water, descale regularly, to help keep your kettle in working
order.
Use a descaler suitable for plastic products (all kettles have plastic parts).
Follow the instructions provided with the descaler, rinse several times, then
fill, boil and discard the water, to ensure no residues are left. Alternatively,
you may use white vinegar. Fill the kettle with half a litre of vinegar and leave
it to stand for 1 hour without heating.
Also citric acid can be used. Boil a litre of water, add 25g of citric acid and
leave it to stand for 15 minutes.
After descaling, rinse several times, fill, boil and disard the water, to remove
all chemical residues.
*Products returned under guarantee with faults due to scale will be subject to
a repair charge.

Wat e r fil t er
The scale particles that remain suspended in the water may give it a cloudy or
greasy appearance, depending on the hardness of the water. The filter fitted to your kettle will prevent these particles passing into your drink. You must ensure that the filter is kept clean and clear of deposits, otherwise the performance of your kettle may be adversely affected, your drinks may contain scale particles, and the water inside the kettle may look cloudy. You should clean the filter whenever there are any noticeable deposits left on it, and especially if pouring is affected in any way. Make sure that your hands are clean and free from soap, hand cream, or anything else which might leave a taint.
7
Switch the kettle off (press the switch up), unplug it from the wall and let the
kettle cool down completely.
Open the lid.
Prize the filter from the spout by pushing through the spout and remove it from
the kettle. Rinse it under a tap whilst brushing it with a soft brush. Rinse the
kettle out with fresh water, in case any scale particles have fallen inside.
To replace, look through the spout and align the sides of the filter inside the
kettle then push firmly back into place.
