POSTAL SCALE INSTRUCTIONS
mX2 Mechanical Postal Scale
INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Royal mX-2 Mechanical Postal Scale. We recommend that you
read this manual carefully to become familiar with the operation of the product. The manual explains, in simple
steps, how to operate and maintain your new scale. Please retain this guide for further reference.
If you have questions regarding the scale, please call Royal Customer Support at +1-732-563-9944 (in Canada
call 1-888-266-9380 and in Mexico call (+52-55)-53-33-1333); or visit Royal’s web site at

The mX-2 Postal Scale is designed for weighing letters and small parcels. It is great in the kitchen and around
the house, too; perfect for measuring ingredients used in your favorite recipe or for weighing foods for portion
control when dieting.
Please note that the weight and postal rates provided are for reference and informational purposes only. It is not
intended that the weight and/or postal rates be used or relied upon for any commercial use. Rates are also subject to
change at any time without notice.
Warning: To prevent damage, DO NOT exceed the specified weight capacity of the scale.
BASIC OPERATION
1) Ensure that the scale is placed on a hard, flat and level surface.
2) Ensure that the scale platform moves freely up and down without any interference.
3) Zero the scale: With the front of the scale facing you, turn the adjustment knob (the silver knob located
behind the platform post on the top of the scale) either clockwise to move the pointer up or counterclockwise to move the pointer down so that the scale pointer is at the “0-ounce” mark.
4) Place the letter/parcel or item on the scale; read the weight next to the pointer on the front panel of the scale.
TARE FUNCTION
The tare function allows the scale to be reset to zero, even after placing an object on the scale. This feature
allows you to get the net weight of an item in a container or a box.
1) Follow the procedures above to obtain the weight of the container (measuring cup, box, etc.).
2) Once the weight reading of the container is stable, turn the adjustment knob to realign the pointer to the “0ounce” mark (see Step #3 of Basic Operation).
3) Place item/contents to be weighed into the container.
4) Read the weight next to the pointer on the front face of the scale. The weight shown will be the weight of
the item in the container, excluding the weight of the container itself.
Removing the item from the container should return the scale to a default weight reading of zero. Removing the
container or box itself (the tared weight) will result in the scale pointer going above zero. Using the adjustment
knob, adjust the scale so that the pointer is realigned next to the “0-ounce” mark.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the total weight of the container and its contents should not exceed the weight
capacity of the scale.
UNIT OF MEASURE
The scale is shipped with the pounds / ounces weight chart installed at the factory. A metric chart for kilograms
/ grams is also included in the box with the scale. To replace the weight chart, remove the clear plastic lens
from the front of the scale (with the front of the scale facing you, there is a small tab in the lower, right corner
of the clear plastic lens). Pop out the bottom of the lens first and then slide out the top of the lens. When
replacing the lens, slide the two tabs at the top of the lens in the appropriate slots first and then pop in the
bottom of the lens, again aligning the two tabs with the appropriate slots.
When installing the metric weight chart, be sure the chart is straight and the edges of the chart are flush with the
edges of the scale. Be sure the chart is installed under the pointer and that the pointer can move freely up and
down.
POSTAL RATE CHART
CHART INSTALLATION / REPLACEMENT
To replace the postal rate chart in the scale, simply remove the clear plastic lens as described above; then
remove and replace the postal rate chart. Replace the clear plastic lens.

ORDERING REPLACEMENT RATE CHARTS
To order a replacement or updated rate chart, please call Royal Consumer Sales Department, toll-free, at 1-888261-4555; or visit Royal’s web site at http://www.royal.com.
UNITED STATES RATE CHARTS
When determining the U.S. postage rate for either Domestic U.S. First-Class Mail (within the USA) or
International Airmail (from the USA to all other countries), round up to the next whole ounce if the weight
reading is any fraction above a whole ounce measurement (from 0.1-ounce through 0.9-ounce). For example: a
reading of 2.5-ounces is charged the amount shown for 3-ounces on the rate chart; or a reading of 1.7-ounces is
charged the amount shown for 2-ounces.
Please read the Postal Rate Chart itself for all rates and any other important information.
CANADIAN and MEXICAN RATE CHARTS
For customers in Canada and Mexico, postal rate charts for Canada and Mexico are also packed with the
product. Install your rate chart in the scale as described above. To determine the proper postage: based on the
actual weight of the letter or parcel, find the weight category the item belongs in according to the chart and the
destination of the item for the corresponding postage.
FOLD-UP STAND
There is a fold-up stand for over-sized envelopes built-in to the top of the scale platform. Simply fold-up the
stand and lean the envelope against it, with the bottom of the envelope resting in the recessed groove. Do not
lean anything heavy against the stand. And always be certain to fold the plastic stand down after use to prevent
it from breaking off or becoming damaged.
DO NOT use the fold-up stand or the platform as a handle to carry or move the scale.
