OPERATION
IMPORTANT: This straightener must be used with its resin cartridge. If you do not use the cartridge, the product’s guarantee will no longer be valid. Do not use the straightener on articial hair (wigs, extensions …)
We recommend you use your straightener with its comb (F) so that the hair section is spread over the plate and as a result you obtain a perfect straightening from the roots to the ends.
PREPARATION
1) resin cartridge: This straightener must be used with its resin cartridge. The straightener is tted with a demineralisation cartridge
which serves to lter out the fur. This cartridge contains a resin which changes colour as it progressively becomes worn out.
When it is new, it is green in colour. When it is worn out, it turns blue: when this happens it needs to be changed.
2 cartridges are delivered with the straightener. We advise you to always keep a spare cartridge to hand. If your water is of medium hardness you should be able to use the cartridge for 6 months. We advise you to keep your straightener’s resin cartridge immersed so as to optimise its life span. Should the resin dry out, it will go a yellow colour. In this case all you need to do is immerse it again for it to return to its original colour. The resin is made from polystyrene and can be thrown out with other household waste
when the cartridge is worn out.
If you need to get a new resin cartridge please contact your l’Oréal Professionnel representative or retailer, or alternatively visit our accessories website: www.accessories.home-and-cook.com
How to t the cartridge:
1 Take the cartridge out of its sachet. 2 Remove the red protective seal (g. a) on the top of the cartridge. 3 Remove the lid from the water tank by unclipping it completely (g. b). 4 Slot the cartridge into place (g. c). 5 Replace the lid of the water tank by clipping it back on (g. d). You will hear a click sound.

2) Water tank
Your straightener can be used with untreated tap water.
Removing and lling the water tank : Do not pour water directly into the water tank when it is connected to its base.
Whenever you need to ll the water tank you must rst ensure that the cartridge is correctly in place in the water tank, unplug the water tank from the base (moving it horizontally), lift the lling cap and ll the water tank up to its maximum level. Reposition the water tank on its base (moving it horizontally) until you hear the click sound.
IMPORTANT: Do not use any additives in the water tank
What water should I use? Your straightener has been designed to function using untreated tap water.
Never use water which contains additives (starch, perfume, aromatic substances, softeners, etc.), Heat concentrates the elements contained in water during evaporation. The types of water listed below may contain organic waste, mineral or chemical elements that can cause spitting, brown staining or premature wear of the appliance: water from clothes dryers, scented or softened water, water from refrigerators, batteries, air conditioners, rain water, boiled, ltered or pure demineralised water. This is because they contain organic waste or mineral elements which become concentrated under the eect of heat and cause cracklings, brown colours or the premature ageing of your straightener. If your water is very hard, we recommend you use a mixture 50 % tap water and 50 % demineralised water which you can purchase from a hardware store.
The straightener can be lled at any time.
It is important to always make sure that the level of water in the water tank is above the minimum level indicated. If the water level is lower than the minimum level, then there will be no more steam coming out of the straightener and it won’t work as well.
When using the straightener, you must be able to see steam coming out and hear the noise of the steam.
If you can’t see any steam anymore and you can’t hear the noise of the steam any longer either, this means that the water tank needs to be re-lled up. In this case, once you have re-lled the water tank, you will need to wait for about 90 seconds before the steam starts coming out of the straightener again.

4. SWITCHING ON YOUR STRAIGHTENER
USING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME
1) Plug in the straightener.
To switch your straightener on: press and hold the on/o button until the LCD screen comes on.
2) Select the ideal temperature for the type of hair you want to straighten using the + and – buttons:
Press the – button to reduce the temperature or the + button to increase it.
• It takes 90 seconds for the straightener to heat up. Whilst it is heating up the temperature indicator of the straightener will ash.
• There are 5 temperature settings for you to choose from: 170-180-190-200-210°C (330-350-370-390-410° F).
• When you use your straightener for the very rst time, hold the plates closed until the steam appears (it will take around 90 seconds for you to obtain steam the rst time you use your straightener).
• We advise you to observe the following recommendations:
• When the temperature shown on the indicator stabilises and remains constant, this means that the temperature that you have chosen has been reached.
• After 5 seconds, the straightener will go into LOCK AUTO mode (a padlock symbol appears on the dial). This mode prevents any ill eects occurring if you inadvertently press on a button you shouldn’t have during use (for example pushing by mistake on the + /- buttons during use).
• If you wish to change the temperature of your straightener, you will have to unlock it: To unlock the straightener, press again for a few seconds on either the + button or the -.button. The control is now unlocked and the padlock sign will disappear from the screen.
At any time you can exit the LOCK AUTO mode by pressing continuously on the – or + buttons.
3)
To start straightening your hair, run the straightener once or twice along the hair section, depending on the type of hair
(See table on page 15)
You must move the straightener slowly so that the steam can be spread correctly to the heart of the hair section.

7. STORING YOUR STRAIGHTENER
The straightener has a mobile plate to make the straightening action more eective.
1) Direction of use.
• The straightener must be used in the direction indicated by the arrows (comb always located at the bottom) so that the hair section is exposed to the steam before being straightened between the plates.
• Clasp the section of hair rmly between the plates; The steam starts spreading automatically as soon as the tongs are closed. Run your straightener slowly, from the root to the end of the hair so that the steam can spread to the heart of the hair
section.
Do not hang your straightener by its steam cord.
• Every time you use the Steampod we strongly recommend you take the utmost care in order to achieve the best result.
2) Using your straightener with a hair care product.
• Step by step instructions on use:
Over the basin:
1 Shampoo 2 Apply a suitable conditioning product 3 Rinse and Comb out 4 Gently remove excess water from wet hair using a clean towel
At the styling station:
5 Apply and work in a suitable Steampod care product to the lengths and ends of your hair 6 Comb out 7 Dry 8 Using a comb choose a ne section of hair (veil) which is a few centimetres wide,
Comb it then place it between the plates.
The straightener will go into standby mode if it hasn’t been used for 1hour. To reset it, press and hold the
on/o button.
During straightening:
For reasons of convenience we recommend that you don’t place the straightener on its stand during straightening but instead use a heat-resistant mobile trolley.
Do not hang your straightener by its steam cord.
When the straightening is nished:
When you’ve nished using your straightener, place it on its storage stand. Wind the steam cord and the power cord around the base.
