1. Introduction
The SA-17 Wireless Heat Detector is a supervised system for detecting hi g h tem peratures and sudden temperature increases within an area.
The detector can be used in any residential or commercial location, require s no wiring and is ful ly equipped for RF wireless control from a central security unit. The detector is easy to install and powered by one 9V battery, giving a typical battery life of on e year.
Mount the detector on the SA-13 RF base. Using the SA-13's wireless transmitter, the detector c an connect to any standard wireless security system. For best performance, Rosslare recommend using the SA-17 with our custom designed HomeLogiX and SP-03 wireless security panels. The SA-13 is powered b y an additional 9V battery.
The detector has anti-tampering sensors on its cover and back plate, and sends a standard status message to its host security panel ever y 20 minutes . When the unit's batte r y is running low ,
the unit beeps, flashes its LED indicator and sends an aler t message to its host control panel.
NOTE: The SA-17 Heat Detector is not designed as a substitute for a primary fire detection system.

3. Installation
The SA-17 is a single station detector and must not be connected to other fire alarm systems.
3.1 Location
For full protection, every room should have a heat detector fitted. At the very least, a home built on a single storey should have at least one heat detector in the hall, close to all the living areas, including bedrooms and kitchens. Ensure the alert siren is audible from every room.
In a home wit h more than one sto r ey, at leas t one heat detector should be fitted on each landing and at the bottom of the staircase.
3.2 Mounting the Detector
Before mounting the SA-17 Heat Detector, ensu re that your chosen mounting area is not in front of any electrical wiring or pipe work.
Mark two mounting points in the wall, using the SA-13 mounting bracket.
Drill into the marked points and in sert wall p lu g s . Screw the mounting bracket into the wall. Be careful not to
over-tighten the screws. Insert a battery i nto the SA-17 Heat Detector and p ush down
the metal tab fully. Attach the detec tor to the mounting b ra c ket.
NOTE: Do not paint or cover the detector.

4. Opera ting the Heat Detector
4.1 General Use
During normal operation, the heat detector's LED indicator should flash once a minu te.
When the unit records dangerously high temperatures or detects that the temperature in the area is incre asing at a dangerously high speed, it triggers its built-in siren. If the detector is connected to a wire less security network, it sends an alert message to the host security panel.
The siren stops when the temperature has fal len back below the danger level or the rate of temperature increase has slowed. An "all clear " message is sent to th e ho s t security panel.
As standard, the heat detector will trigger an alert when it detects tempe r atures of 70°C or more, or registers that the temperature is increasing at more than 12°C per minute. The trigger values are controlled by a factory setting and can be adjusted to meet specific client ne eds. Contact Rosslare Security for more information.
4.2 Testing the Detector
To test the Heat detector, pus h and hold the self-test button for 3 seconds. A loud pulsating siren sounds and the LED indicator flashes quickly.
Rosslare recommend testing your heat detector once every week. A Heat detector installed in a car or other noncommercial vehicle should be checked before any long journeys , and whenever t he vehicle has been in storage for an extended period of time.
4.3 Maintenance
Dust and dirt reduce the Heat detector's se n sitivity. Clean your heat detector regularly, by passing a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment gently over the front grilled sections and sides of the heat detector.
When the detecto r ' s battery is low, the detector beeps once every minute. If the detector is connec ted to a wireless security network, it sends a low battery warning message to the host control panel.
The heat detector continues operating with a low battery for at least 7 days.
