Installation
The Reader must be mounted with the appropriate screw s (not
supplied), as described in the template provided.
Installing the unit on metal surfaces will reduc e t h e r ead ra n ge
considerably, to decrease t he affect of the metal surface use
Rosslare’s MP-Z02 Spacer (sold separately) as described in the
image below for a max range of 43cm (17 inch).

3.2.1.Single Reader Installation
The AY-Z12A Long-Range Reader is designed to function with the
best performance when installed isolated fro m other AY-Z12A long
range readers at least in a range of 2-4 meters, the reader is
therefor preconfigured as a single installation reader. See Single
Reader Configuration, on page 9, for detailed configuration
instructions.

Installation
3.2.2. Multiple Reader Installation
Although designed to work in an isolated environment, it is
possible to ins tall multip le r eaders within a range of 2-4 meters,
however the read range will reduce by 20-30 percent.
When installing multiple readers, configure each of the readers in
the close environment for multiple reader insta llation.
We do not recommend multiple readers be installed less than two
(2) meters apart due to r edu ced range caused by inter ference
between readers.
See Multiple Reader Configuration, on page 10, for detailed
configuration instructions.
3.2.3. Installation process
The physical installation of the unit is described below.
To Install the Reader:
1. Determine an approximate location for th e installation of the
Reader.
2. Peel off the back of the self-adhesive installation label
template and locate it at the required location.
3. Using the template as a guide, drill holes (the size of which are
indicated in the template) to install the Reader or spacer onto
the surface.
4. Drill a 7/16” (10mm) ho le for the cable. In the event that you
are installing the reader on metal, place a grommet or
electrical tape around t h e ed g e of the hole and use the MPZ02 spacer.
5. Route the interface cab le from the Reader to the Cont r oller. A
linear type power supply is recommended.

Note:
connection at the panel,
• The individual wires from the Reader are color-coded according
the Wiegand standard.
• When using a separate power supply for the Reader, this supply
and that of the Controller, must have a common ground.
• The Reader’s cable shield wire should preferably be attached
to an earth ground, or a signal ground
or power supply end of the cable. This configuration is best for
shielding the Reader cable from external interference
4.2 Single Reader Configuration
For single reader installation, follow the configuration process
below, this process is not required with new readers as it comes
preconfigured from the factory to function as a single door
reader.
To configure a single reader installation mode:

5. Operation Instructions
Test the AY-Z12A long-range reader after wiring it to a power
supply and a Controller.
To test the Reader:
1. Power up the Reader. The LED flashes on power up, and the
Beeper sounds twice, at which point it begins an autocalibration procedure, this can take up to two seconds, when
the calibration is comp lete a third beep will sound , thus
indicating that the Reader is working properly. The LED returns
to its idle state (red).
2. Present the appropriat e t ype of proximity card to the R ead er.
The LED will flash green briefly and a s h o rt beep is emitted,
thus indicating that the card was read proper ly.
The Reader transmits the card's data to the Controller; the
Controller checks the data, if the card transmission is valid, the
LED changes briefly to green. Refer to the Controller’s description
of LED operation for Controllers with Reader LED control. The LED
then returns to its idle state ( red )
The range is measured us ing a Rosslare Proximity Card (P/N AT11/12) or equivalent. Th e ran g e also depends on electrica l
environment and/or proximity to metal.
