3.3 Operational Modes
This section describes the three operational modes that are controlled from the keypad:
Disarmed mode Bypass mode Armed mode
3.3.1 Disarmed Mode
In Disarmed mode (Idle mode if it is not in programming or memory/trouble display modes), the indicators behave as follows:
Clock (LCD versions) displays the hour in 24h or AM/PM format as set. On clock loss, the clock display (LCD) blinks 00:00 every second, awaiting
the clock to be set (in LED models, a clock loss is treated as a trouble condition and is indicated accordingly). In this event, contact your installer.
Memory and Trouble indicators are continuously lit or off, according to
the status and per their display modes.
The ALARM indication is off. Function button/indicators behave as described in Section 3.2.4. The buzzer generates warning beeps (in trouble conditions) – if trouble
beeps are set and in trouble condition – and generates key beeps on keypad operations.
On LCD models, the LCD backlit is off unless set to Always On. It turns on
per occurrence of events which cause the indicators to change, or per any key press. It goes off automatically 5 minutes after the last event.
You can disarm a panel, whether alarmed or not, from the keypad as follows:
Press the Disarm key. The keypad initiates the Code Entry process. Once the code entry is approved by the control panel: the Disarm/Ready
indicator turns on, the keypad updates the indicator status, the buzzer emits the acknowledge sound and the keypad returns to idle state.
3.3.2 Bypass Mode
If zones are set to be bypassed and bypass is enabled, the bypassed zone indicators blink twice quickly (200ms/200ms) every two seconds and the bypass indicator illuminates. The zone indicators are not active when the system is armed. On arming a bypassed system, the buzzer generates a sequence of 8 fast beeps before starting the arming process. If enabled and defined, zone bypassing is activated by pressing the Bypass [0] key for 2 seconds. This is allowed only when the system is disarmed. According to system definitions, a valid master code or user code entry is required to activate the bypass state. The same operation toggles back to un-bypass state.
Page 18
Operating the AuraSys L-4 System
18 AuraSys™ L-4 User Guide
3.3.3 Armed Mode
Zone indicators do not behave in the same way in armed mode as they do in disarmed mode. Here, trouble beeps behave as you set them. The system accepts arming requests from the keypad when disarmed, or when armed for different arming modes (see Section 4.2).
3.4 User Modes
There AuraSys L-4 system supports 3 user modes, which are described in this section:
Installer Master Programmer User
3.4.1 Installer Level
The system allows only a single installer session access at a time and from a single keypad. All other keypads are locked.
The installer level has authorization to:
Operate user and master level functions Access all system configuration settings Update firmware Add or change user access codes Change a user relationship
For a detailed description of installer-level programming functions, as well as the required programming tables, refer to the AuraSys L-4 Installation Guide.
3.4.2 Master Programmer
The master level has a unique code that can be changed but not erased. The default code is 1000. User and master level accesses are provided by entering the basic and master codes respectively. The system does not allow installer access without prior knowledge of the master code.
In addition to the user-level programmable functions, the master can:
Change the master code Change the duress code Change, add, or delete basic-level user codes Change basic level arming/disarming options Set system time and date Program private phone numbers
Page 19
Operating the AuraSys L-4 System
AuraSys™ L-4 User Guide 19
3.4.3 User
Each user code is assigned for arming/disarming the system. When a wireless expansion is installed in the system, up to eight users can be assigned (by the master programmer) to use RF keys, in addition to using the manual code entry. Each user can be programmed by the master programmer or the installer to:
exercise part or all arming options disarm the system set bypassing zones view Memory and Trouble event logs contents manually control PGM outputs enable/disable the chime enable/disable keypad Mute
3.4.4 Additional Codes
The system accepts an additional code for duress. This code is used for disarming the system when it is under threat. However, once entered, the system immediately reports a duress situation (Contact ID) without entering the alarm mode or activating the sounder and outputs.
3.4.5 Master Configuration
Once the L-4 system is installed, you can program, modify or update the system from one of the attached keypads. It is a necessary prerequisite for the system to recognize the master prior to attempting any programming.
The master can assign codes to users, modify access codes, set system timeand-date, and reset to factory defaults. This section describes the following procedures for the master level user, as well the system responses.
3.4.6 Entering Master Programming Mode
For the master programmer to enter the system:
1. Press [][9] one after the other; a beep is heard.
2. Key in the 4-digit master code (default: 1000).
3. Verify the status of the following indicators:
The [P] indicator starts flashing at a medium rate, indicating a
programming code request.
On successful code entry, the [P] indicator becomes lit constantly. It
remains on until exiting programming mode.
The system is now ready to accept parameters from the master.
4. Press  (ESC) for three seconds to exit programming mode. Keypads belonging to the same panel are locked out.
Page 20

3.4.7 Entering Master Programming Parameters
Once the system is ready to accept parameters, the master programmer must press # (ENTER) followed by an item number (see Sections 3.4.7.1 and
3.4.7.6). This action locates the proper parameter to be programmed. During the programming procedure, you hear beeps. Correct and appropriate
entries are acknowledged by a long beep (ACK); wrong entries or erroneous values are negatively acknowledged by three short beeps (NACK).
To enter master programming parameters:
1. Press # (ENTER) to access the parameter entry mode.
2. Enter an item number from the user codes described in Sections 3.4.7.1 and 3.4.7.6.
The system returns to zone indicator 15 (blinking); indicator 14 is on; other indicators are off.
3. The panel is now ready and waiting for the next selection.

4. Using the AuraSys L-4 Security
System
This chapter describes the operating conditions for the AuraSys L-4 system. It teaches the user how to place the security system in its various operational modes.
4.1 Alarm Mode
The AuraSys L-4 system enters Alarm mode according to the various events, zone types and arming mode defined during system setup.
Upon entering alarm mode, the system:
Reports events to the central station Reports to private telephone numbers Activates sounder Activates PGM output as programmed Uses backup/secondary report options
4.1.1 Alarm Mode Armed
When armed, the system enters Alarm mode when there is a violation of zones. Upon entering Alarm mode, or when trouble conditions occur, the system performs the following actions as defined at setup:
Calls central station for reporting Performs other reporting (cellular, private phone) Activates sounder Activates PGM outputs as defined
The system enters Alarm mode for any intrusion/burglary related event that persists longer than 400 ms. The system enters Trouble mode for any fault event that persists longer than 10 seconds.
The system also manages the continuous control of automatic and manual activation of PGM outputs and reporting requests from local keypads.
The system is considered as armed during entry and exit delay and behaves accordingly, except in the case of a Walkthrough, as defined above.
4.1.2 Alarm Mode Disarmed
When disarmed, the AuraSys L-4 system enters Alarm mode for each 24 hour zone. Alarms trigger only for panic, emergency, fire, 24H audible and silent conditions.
In this state, the system continuously checks zone status and holds the Ready status parameter. This parameter determines whether the system is ready to
Page 23
Using the AuraSys L-4 Security System
AuraSys™ L-4 User Guide 23
arm. The system becomes Ready to Arm when zones are either closed or bypassed, or force arming is enabled.
In all other cases, including a No-Supervision of RF devices, the system status is Not Ready. In the Not Ready condition, the system is unable to arm and signals the keypads and remote phone arming to notify the user if there is a status request or arming attempt. The system allows arming if Force Arming is set.
4.2 Arming Options
When the user enters a code or key switch command, the system responds as follows:
If the code or command (armed away/home, disarmed) is valid and
correctly entered, the arming/disarming operation succeeds. In such a case, the system sends the keypads a signal to sound a confirmation notification or generates a confirmation sound on the local sounder. (This can be set to either enabled (default) or disabled.)
In case of wrong code entry, the system allows you to immediately re-
enter the code while also signaling an error indication to the user.
In the event of 5 sequential wrong DISARM code entries, the system
ignores further attempts for 30 seconds before accepting a new code entry.
Once armed, the system behaves as follows:
The system ignores arming commands, except Disarm, through either
keypad, RF key or remote during an alarm condition.
The system sends error indication signals if zones are either not ready or
not bypassed (assuming that a bypass or forced options are not enabled).
The system exits the Alarm mode if the alarm was caused by an alarm or
tamper alarm while the system was disarmed.
The system enters Alarm mode if zones are violated during entry and exit
delay periods, unless the walkthrough feature is enabled and the violated zones are defined as walkthrough path.
4.2.1 System Home Arming
When the user arrives HOME, the system starts the entry delay and beeps as programmed. During the entry delay, the system ignores zone violations. When the exit delay has ended, the system ignores violations of interior zones.
Once the system is armed Home, it behaves as follows:
The system enters Alarm mode immediately on a violation of a perimeter
type zone.
The system activates entry delay for delay 1 and 2 type zones. The system allows you to switch between arming modes. If the system is
currently Armed Home, it accepts an Arming Away command and switches modes without disarming. However, when switching from
Page 24
Using the AuraSys L-4 Security System
24 AuraSys™ L-4 User Guide
arming Away to Home, the system requires code entry even if quickarming is enabled.
If you enter 5 erroneous codes sequentially, the system enters Lockout mode for 30 seconds and report a system trouble event to the central monitoring station.
4.2.2 System Instant Arming Mode
If Instant Arming mode is enabled, the system skips the entry delay and enters the Alarm mode instantly upon violation of Delay zones. Instant arming is set as a parameter in the system security settings. To initiate instant arming, press the desired arming button twice.
4.2.3 Arming/Disarming the L-4 from the System Panel
The L-4 system allows you to perform arming and disarming functions directly from the system panel, as well as from the attached keypads.
The L-4 (panel) model features a key switch for arming and disarming the
system.
Figure 5: L-4 Model
The three operational modes are triggered from the key switch as follows (left to right):
Home – turn the key to the left position. Disarmed – turn the key to the middle position. Away – turn the key to the right position.
The L-4K (panel) model features a keypad, from which you can arm and disarm the system.
Page 25

Figure 6: L-4K Model
The compact onboard keypad allows you to enter a user code or any of the other numerically programmed commands from the main panel upon entry or exit.
4.2.4 System Away Mode
In AWAY mode, the system enters Alarm mode if there is a zone violation, regardless of perimeter or interior type.
4.2.5 Forced Arming
If Forced Arming is enabled, the system is able to arm when zones are in violation (open) but not defined as bypassed. In such a case, the system treats zones of this type automatically as bypassed zones for the arming period. These bypassed definitions expire either upon disarming or once the zones are closed or supervised (again) during the arming period. Depending on how the feature is defined during setup, a report is sent to the central station.
In any case, the system is armed and there are bypassed zones. The system acknowledges this condition by sending a command to the keypads to indicate a bypass state when armed.
Default: Forced arming is disabled.
4.2.6 Quick Arming
Setting this parameter ON allows AWAY arming without code entry. The system does not accept home arming when already armed AWAY. When Quick Arming is enabled (during setup), a long press on the AWAY arming button on the keypad activates Quick Arming.
Default: OFF
Page 26

4.2.7 Perimeter Arming
When the system is in Perimeter Arming all INSTANT and INTERIOR zones are bypassed and the entry delay is cancelled. Perimeter Arming is typically used for outdoor detectors protecting the perimeter of the residence. Only zones defined as perimeter zones are armed.
To use Perimeter Arming, on the keypad press HOME, then press # (ENTER) and enter the user code to register the selection. After the user code is confirmed, Arm Home LED flashes to indicate that the system is in perimeter arming mode.
Perimeter Arming can be executed from the keypad devices only; not from the panels themselves.
4.3 Disarming Process
Users can disarm an armed system by entering their code using keypads or key switch (in L-4), using their RF keys.
Disarming causes the system to behave as follows:
Disarming a system both disarms it and stops an alarm condition. Upon receiving a disarm request from the keypad, the system allows up to
45 seconds for an authorized disarm code entry. If it fails to receive a disarm code in this period, the system enters Alarm mode.
When an alarm condition occurs during the disarming process, the system
triggers a full alarm. The alarm stops on next disarming operation.
4.4 Bypass Zone
The AuraSys L-4 system can be set to enable or disable zone bypass. In auto bypass, the system behaves as follows:
If disabled (default) and zones are opened (doors, windows) or
unsupervised, the system does not allow arming until all zones are closed. All incoming detections are handled according to the selected alarm options for zone types and settings.
Each zone can be set as bypassed. The system ignores incoming
detections from a bypassed zone, and is able to arm regardless of their condition.
Zone bypassing behavior is dependent on the general system bypass
enable setting.
The various auto bypass options are described below.
To bypass a zone:
1. Press 0 (long) followed by the 4-digit master code. The Bypass indicator flashes and the zone indicators for zones defined in
the system illuminate.
2. Enter the number of the zone you wish to bypass.
Page 27
Using the AuraSys L-4 Security System
AuraSys™ L-4 User Guide 27
3. Press # (ENTER) to register the selection. The zone is bypassed; the indicator for that zone flashes.
4. Press  (ESC). The program is now ready and waiting for the next selection.
If you arm the system, the Bypass indicator and the bypassed zones flash briefly before entering the armed condition.
The zone is bypassed until disarming or if forced arming is enabled until the zone is closed.
4.5 Siren
The Siren is activated upon alarm, emergency or violating a 24-hour zone, siren timeout is set by the installer and turns off upon disarm command.
The siren also features momentarily pulses (Squawk) for the following events that can be enable according to the requirements to:
Arm Away (single pulse) Arm Home (single pulse) Disarm (dual pulse) Emergency alarm Trouble alert
4.6 Entry/Exit Delay Options
Entry and Exit actions delay the alarm mode and allow the system to ignore zone violations, as described below.
4.6.1 Entry Delay
Entry delay allows the user a grace period for the time it takes him to open the door and reach the keypad. It is the time allowed to the user to reach the keypad to disarm the system.
If a zone of type Delay is violated while the system is armed (except Instant Arming), the system does not enter Alarm mode during the Entry Delay period setting. If the delay has transpired and the system still has not been disarmed, the system enters Alarm mode.
During Entry Delay, the system signals the keypads to sound warning beeps at two rates: slower rate and faster rate during the last 10 seconds of the delay period.
Entry Delay period is selectable of 3 to 99 seconds. Default: 45 seconds
4.6.2 Exit Delay
Exit delay allows the user a grace period for the time it takes him to reach the door from the keypad when arming the system upon exit.
When arming a panel, the system ignores zone violations during the Exit Delay period. Once the delay has transpired, the system enters armed mode.
Page 28

28 AuraSys™ L-4 User Guide
The system may be disarmed during the Exit Delay period. During Exit Delay the system signals the keypads (4, 6) or internal sounder (2)
to sound warning beeps at two rates: slower rate and faster rate during the last 10 seconds of the delay period.
Exit Delay period is selectable of 3 to 99 seconds. Default: 60 seconds
4.7 Controlling Appliances
The AuraSys L-4 system allows you to connect a range of external devices to the PGM output, and to operate them from the keypad. The exact behavior of the external device, meaning how the device behaves when the PGM button(s) are pressed, depends on how the system is programmed during installation.
The L-4 supports two modes of operation:
Manual – Press 1 or 2 under the Lamp icon; this overrides any automatic
settings.
Figure 7: PGM On/Off
Automated – system is capable of activating PGM according to
installation requirements.
4.8 Muting System Chimes
The user has the option of muting the system chimes. To do this, press the CHIME ON/OFF buttons to turn the chime on or off:

The system executes an emergency response according to the panel’s emergency definitions, as set up during installation. Typically, responses include:
Activating the sounder Activating PGM output at any of the function options Reports a Panic Event to the central station Reports to private telephone
The system responds to the panic event regardless its arming condition. Once a Panic alarm has been entered, the system can be reset by disarming.
4.10 Entering the Duress Code
The AuraSys L-4 system provides a duress code function that is used to disarm the system when it is under threat. The specific and unique code is defined during installation and given to the user to memorize.
Once entered, the system immediately reports a duress situation (Contact ID), without entering the alarm mode or activating the sounder and outputs. The silent alarm generated acts as an ‘Ambush’ to report that the user is being forced to disarm the system.
When the system receives a Duress alarm from the keypad, the system sends a DURESS alarm report to the central station and to private phone numbers as defined, however no alarm is sounded.
4.11 Memory Alarm View
When the ALARM MEMORY status indicator is ON, the Memory key allows you to view the alarm information in Idle mode.
To view the alarm information, press button 6, the Memory key ( ) for
more than 2 seconds. The Memory indicator flashes at medium rate.
Figure 10: Trouble & Memory Buttons
At that stage the system turns on the zone indicators that correspond to the alarm.
To exit the alarm memory display and to turn off the alarmed zone
indicators, press the Memory button again. The memory symbol returns to constant illumination and remain on until the next arming.

The Memory display functionality is available only when the system is disarmed.
4.12 Trouble Status View
When the TROUBLE status indicator is ON, the Trouble key (see Figure 10) allows you to view the troubled zones information in idle mode.
If the cause of the trouble condition is in the system, no zone indicator lights.
Press the Trouble key for more than 2 seconds. The Trouble indicator illuminates constantly:
The panel enters Trouble Display mode. The keypad shows the troubled
zones.
Press the Trouble key; the Trouble indicator flashes at medium rate. The
system then turns on the zone indicators that correspond to the troubled zones.
Press the Trouble button again to exit trouble display mode and turn off
the troubled zone indicators. The trouble symbol returns to constant illumination and remains on until the trouble conditions are cleared.
The trouble display functionality is available only when the system is disarmed.
