Step Action Section
Preparing the Installation Environment 3.2.1
Preparing the Wiring 3.2.2
Mounting the Control Panel
3.2.3
Wiring the L-2 System 4
3.2 Installation Prerequisites
Unit installation is limited to the control panel. Installation instructions for additional communication modules are included in appendices in this manual. For information on installing the various detectors, please refer to the individual manuals supplied with the detector.
3.2.1 Preparing the Installation Environment
Establish the control panel location using the following guidelines:
Locate the control panel in a place where the temperature is within the
specified limits for operation.
When distributing wiring, avoid putting the system wires close to house
wiring to reduce capacitive coupling of noise.
Locate the control panel in the center of the premises to avoid long runs
to any one location.
Install the panel 130 cm +/- 10 cm from the floor. Make sure to leave 15
cm all around the control panel for ventilation and/or wiring entry. The panel should be installed at eye level to ease in making connections or repairs.
3.2.2 Preparing the Wiring
The control panel provides 12 VDC up to 1 Ampere for PGM add-ons and sensors. The maximum wire length between the panel and accessories depends on the amount of current drawn by the accessory and the gauge of the conductors (wires) used.

B.1 MD-31 (RJ-31X Jack)
Even though the RJ31X jack has additional connections, typically only four wires are used; two for connecting to the outside phone line (T and R), and two for connecting to the inside phone lines (T1 and R1).
The MD-31 has eight screw terminals inside the housing. This makes it easy to connect the outside and inside lines.
To connect the MD-31:
1. Connect the lines as shown in Figure 13 and Figure 14.
The outside and inside lines can come into the jack from within the wall behind the jack, or into either, or both, sides of the jack.

4. Plug the 50-cm cord into the MD-31 and test communication.
B.2 SA-59 GSM Communicator
The SA-59 is a universal GSM reporting unit and communicator. When it is connected to an alarm panel, the SA-59 operates as a GSM backup unit to the PSTN line, enabling incoming and outgoing calls to be redirected to the GSM network if the PSTN line fails. Since the SA-59 simulates a telephone line, it makes no difference whether the device to which it is connected is a GSM or a land line.
The built-in SA-59 GSM module connects via the PSTN line to check for phone communication type availability. If there is no PSTN line, the SA-59 automatically switches the call from PSTN line to GSM.
When the SA-59 is connected to a telephone line (Line IN), the SA-59 tunnels the device to a land line to make a call. If the land line is cut or not
Page 28
Expansions and Accessories
28 AuraSys™ L-2 and L-2K Installation Manual
functioning, all communications go via the GSM network without the need for any special additional settings.
If the SA-59 is not connected to a land line, all communications take place via the GSM network.
