1. Introduction
The AC-Q74 is a vandal resistant proximity card and keypad access control unit suitable for external applications.
The unit accepts up to 500 users and provides entry via the use of proximity cards and/or PIN codes.
It is designed for high security applications, due to the fact that lock strike output and Request to Exit input are not located directly on the AC-Q74, which eliminates the possibility of unauthorized entry to the restricted area. A specific Power Supply Unit, PC-25T, must be used in conjunction with the AC-Q74. See Chapter 10 for a detailed description of the PC-25T.

4. Installation
4.1 Mounting the AC-Q74 Controller
To mount the AC-Q74 Controller:
1. Select the location to mount the AC-Q74 controller. This location
should be at shoulder height.
2. Drill holes into the back of the metal according to how you want
to mount the AC-Q74. For US Gang Box installation there are
two hole indicators on the back of the metal cover specifically
aligned for the US Gang Box (marked as ”A” in Figure 1). For a
four-screw custom installation there are four indicators on the
back (marked as B in Figure 1).

3. Screw the AC-Q74 back cover to its mounting location.
4. Wire the controller according the wiring instructions of the
following page.
5. Return the front cover of the AC-Q74 to the mounted back plate.
6. Secure the front cover by using the supplied security screw in the
Installation Kit. An L-Shaped tool is provided for use when
tightening the security screw.

4.2 Wiring the AC-Q74
The controller is supplied with a 16-inch pigtail, having a 4-conductor cable.
To wire the controller:
1. Prepare the controller cable by cutting the cable jacket back 1¼
inch and strip the wire ½ inch.
2. Splice the controller pigtail wires to the corresponding devices
and cover each connection. Refer to Table 1 below and to the
wiring diagrams provided on the following pages.

3. Trim and cover all conductors that are not used. A typical wiring diagram is shown in Figure 2.

5. Normal, Secure, & Master Users
The AC-Q74 accepts up to 500 users and provides entry via the use of proximity cards and/or PIN codes. Each user is provided with two code memory slots, Memory Slot 1 (Primary code) and Memory Slot 2 (Secondary code). The two memory slots can be programmed as Proximity Cards, PIN codes, or a combination of both Proximity Cards and PIN codes.
The way in which the two memory slots are programmed determines a user’s access level and also determines the way in which the AC­Q74 grants access in its three modes of operation.
There are three user levels:
Normal User
A Normal User only has a Primary code and is only granted access
when the AC-Q74 is in Normal or Bypass Mode.
Secure User
A Secure User must have a Primary and Secondary code
programmed; the two codes must not be the same. The Secure
User can gain access when the AC-Q74 is in any of its three
modes of operation. In Normal Mode the Secure User must use
their Primary code to gain entry. In Secure Mode, the Secure User
must present both their Primary and Secondary codes in order to
gain entry.
Master User
A Master User must have both Primary and Secondary codes
programmed with the same Proximity Card or PIN code. The
Master User can gain access during any mode of operation by
presenting their Proximity Card or PIN code to the controller. (The
Master User is convenient but is less secure than a Secure User.)

The AC-Q74 has three modes of operation:
Normal Mode Bypass Mode Secure Mode
6.1 Normal Mode
The Mode LED is green.
Normal mode is the default mode. In Normal mode, the door is locked until a Primary code is presented to the controller. Special codes such as Lock Strike Code 1 and Lock Strike Code 2 are active in Normal mode.
See Sections 11.3 and 11.4 for more information on the Lock Strike codes.
6.2 Bypass Mode
The Mode LED is orange.
In Bypass mode, access to the premises is dependent on whether the controller's Lock Strike Relay is programmed for Fail Safe Operation or Fail Secure Operation.
When the Lock Strike is programmed for Fail Secure Operation, the door is locked until the doorbell button is pressed.
When the Lock Strike is programmed for Fail Safe Operation, the door is constantly unlocked.

6.3 Secure Mode
The Mode LED is red.
Only Secure and Master Users can access the premises during the Secured Mode.
Secure Users must enter their Primary and Secondary codes to gain entry. After entering their Primary code, the Door LED flashes green for 10 seconds, during which the Secondary code must be entered.
Master Users only need to present their Proximity Card or PIN code once to gain entry.

To change from Normal mode to Secure mode:

8. Request to Exit (REX) Function
The REX button is connected to the Power Supply Unit (PC-25T). The REX button must be located inside the premises to be secured and is used to open the door without the use of a proximity card or PIN code. It is usually located in a convenient location, such as inside the door or at a receptionist's desk. The function of the REX button depends on whether the Lock Strike Relay is programmed for Fail Safe Operation or Fail Secure Operation.
Fail Secure Operation: From the moment the REX button is
pressed, the door is unlocked until the Lock Strike Release Time
has passed. After this time, the door is locked even if the REX
button is not released.
Fail Safe Operation: From the moment the REX button is
pressed, the door is unlocked until the REX button is released,
plus the Lock Strike Release Time. In this case, the Lock Strike
Relay only begins its count down once the REX button is released.

If the case of the controller is opened or the controller is removed from the wall, a tamper event is triggered and a coded tamper signal is sent to the PC-25T Power Supply, or other compatible device, which activates the siren.
Clearing a tamper event is done by entering a valid Employee or Lock Strike code that opens the Lock Strike Output in the current mode of operation. For example, while in Secure mode, using the Lock Strike codes to clear tamper event does not work because the Strike codes does not work in Secure mode. However, applying a Master code or Secure code clears the tamper event in Secure mode.

10. PC-25T Power Supply Unit
The PC-25T is designed for use with Rosslare's secured series, stand alone access control units, including AC-Q74. It is designed to operate indoors and installed within the premises to be secured.
The AC-Q74 must be used with PC-25T, which provides its Lock Strike output, Request to Exit (REX) Input and Bell Function.
Both units communicate through a proprietary Rosslare protocol, which provides a secure link between the controller and the power supply unit. This in turn activates the door unlocking.
The PC-25T also functions as the power supply for the AC-Q74.

Programming the AC-Q74 is done solely via the unit's keypad driven Programming Menu System. To reach the Programming Menu System the AC-Q74 must first be placed into Programming mode (see Section
11.1). During the AC-Q74's manufacturing process certain codes and
settings are pre-programmed. These settings are the called the Default Factory Settings.
Table 2 shows the names of all the AC-Q74 menus. It also shows of all the AC-Q74’s default factory codes and settings.

11.1 Entering Programming Mode
To enter Programming mode:
1. Press the “#” key two times within 2
seconds.
The Mode LED turns off and the Door LED
turns red.
2. Enter the 4-digit Programming code.
If the Programming code is valid, the door
LED turns green and the AC-Q74 enters
Programming Mode.
The AC-Q74 must be in Normal Mode to enter Programming mode.
The factory default Programming code is 1234.
If a Programming code is not entered within 5 seconds, the AC-
Q74 returns to Normal mode
11.2 Exiting Programming Mode
To exit the Programming mode at any time:
1. Press the “#” key two times within 2 seconds.
You hear 3 beeps. The Door LED turns off. The Mode LED turns green.
This indicates that the AC-Q74 has returned to Normal mode.

In addition:
Wrong entries may reset the controller back to Normal mode. While in Programming mode, if no key is pressed for 1 minute,
the AC-Q74 exits Programming mode and returns to Normal mode.
A short press on key may also return the system to Normal mode
in certain Programming modes.
11.3 Changing Lock Strike Code 1
The Lock Strike code 1 is mainly used as a method to quickly test the Lock Strike Relay during installation.
The default factory setting for the Lock Strike Code 1 is 2580. When the first user is added to the controller, the default Lock Strike Code 1 is automatically be deleted and the system is ready for a new Lock Strike Code 1 to be re-entered.
To change Lock Strike Code 1:
1. Enter Programming mode.
2. Press “1” to enter Menu 1. The Mode LED turns red.
3. Enter the new 4-digit code you wish to set as Lock Strike Code 1.
The system returns to Normal mode.
You hear three beeps. The Door LED turns off. The Mode LED turns green.
Lock Strike Code 1 does not function in Secure mode.
Wrong entries return the controller to Normal mode.
Code 0000 erases the Lock Strike Code 1.

The Lock Strike Code 2 is mainly used as a method to quickly test the Lock Strike Relay during installation.
The default factory setting for the Lock Strike Code 2 is 0852. When the first user is added to the controller, the default Lock Strike Code 2 is automatically be deleted and the system is ready for a new Lock Strike Code 2 to be re-entered.
To change Lock Strike Code 2:
1. Enter Programming mode.
2. Press “2” to enter Menu 2. The Mode LED turns orange.
3. Enter the new 4-digit code you wish to set as Lock Strike Code 2.
The system returns to Normal mode.
You hear three beeps. The Door LED turns off. The Mode LED turns green.
Lock Strike Code 2 does not work in Secure Mode.
Wrong entries return the controller to Normal Mode.
Code 0000 erases the Lock Strike Code 2.
11.5 Changing the Programming Code
To change the Programming code:
1. Enter Programming mode.

The Programming code cannot be erased, meaning the code 0000 is not valid and does not erase the Programming code.
11.6 Changing the Normal/Secure Code
To change the Normal/Secure code:

3. Enter the new 4-digit code you wish to set as Normal/Secure code.
The system returns to Normal mode.

This section shows how to set the Fail Safe/Secure Operation and the Lock Strike Release Time.
1. Enter Programming mode.

11.9 Enrolling Primary & Secondary Codes
11.9.1 Primary Codes
Primary codes can only be enrolled to an empty User Slot – a slot
where there is no existing Primary code.
Primary codes must be unique – one user’s Primary code may not
be the same as another user’s Primary code.
Primary codes cannot be the same as any system codes, such as
the Normal/Secure code or Lock Strike code.
Users who hold a Primary code can gain entry only during Normal
mode.
11.9.2 Secondary Codes
Secondary codes can only be enrolled to a User Slot that already
has a Primary code enrolled but no Secondary code.
Secondary codes do not have to be unique – multiple users can
all hold the same Secondary code.
Secondary codes cannot be the same as any system codes, such
as the Normal/Secure code or Lock Strike codes.
Users who hold Secondary codes can gain entry in any Mode of
Operation.
11.9.3 Enrolling Primary and Secondary Codes
There are two methods to enroll Primary and Secondary codes, the Standard Method and the Code Search Method.
The Standard Method is mainly used when the User Slot number
for the user you wish to program is known. You can program both Primary and Secondary codes using the Standard method (see Section 11.9.4).
The Code Search Method is mainly used when enrolling a user’s
Secondary code and the User Slot code is unknown. The Search method only works if a user’s Primary code is already enrolled but the Secondary code is not (see Section 11.9.5).

the Standard Method
1. Enter Programming Mode.
2. Press “7” to enter Menu 7 The Door LED turns orange.
3. Enter the 3-digit User Slot number between 001 and 500 to which you wish to enroll a Primary or Secondary code.
For example, the User Slot 003 represents
User #3.
If the selected slot has no Primary
code, the Mode LED flashes green, indicating that the controller is ready to accept a Primary code.
If the selected slot already has a
Primary code but no Secondary code

If the Proximity Card or PIN that is entered is valid, the Mode LED
stops flashing and then the controller is ready for you to enter the
next 3-digit slot number (see Step 3) that you want to assign a code to, or press the “#” key to move to the next slot number (see Step 4). If you do not wish to continue enrolling codes, press the “#” key twice and the controller returns to Normal mode.

The Code Search feature enables you to quickly enroll a Secondary code to a user who already has a Primary code.
1. Enter Programming Mode.

When deleting a User Slot, both the Primary code and the Secondary code are erased.

11.11 Return to Factory Default Settings
You must be very careful before using this command! Doing so erases the entire memory, which includes all user and special codes, and returns all codes to their factory default settings.
To return to factory default settings:
1. Enter Programming Mode.
2. Press “00” to enter Menu 0. The Mode LED flashes red. The Door LED flashes red.
3. Enter the 4-digit Programming code.
If the Programming code is valid, all memory is erased. You
hear three beeps and the controller returns to Normal mode.
If the Programming code is invalid, you hear a long beep and
the controller returns to Normal mode without erasing the memory of the controller.
11.12 Replacing a Lost Programming Code
The AC-Q74 must be in Normal mode; otherwise, this does not work. Make sure that the Mode LED is green before proceeding.
To replace a lost programming code:
1. Remove power from the Power Supply Unit (PC-25T).
2. Press the REX button on the Power Supply Unit (PC-25T).
3. Apply power to the unit with the REX button pressed.
4. Release the REX button.
5. You now have 15 seconds to program a new Programming code

Instructions
The power supply installation instructions are relevant for the following models:

12.1 Introduction and Key Features
The PC-25T Power Supply is designed for use with all Rosslare secured series stand-alone access control units. The PC-25T contains two power supplies. One power supply is for the lock strike, the other is for the access control unit (ACU).
The lock strike is attached directly to the power supply. This design isolates the lock from the ACU securing the functionality of lock even if the ACU is tampered with. When a valid code is entered at the ACU, the ACU communicates to the power supply using a Rosslare proprietary protocol sending a command to activate the lock.
Similarly, the Release to Exit (REX) button is attached directly to the power supply. When the REX is pushed, the power supply communicates the REX request to the ACU and then the ACU communicates back to the power supply to activate the lock strike.
If the data line between the ACU and the power supply is cut, the system immediately detects that the data line has been tampered with.

A sealed lead acid battery charger is built-in to provide back-up power for the ACU and the Lock Strike. The PC-25T can also power an external speaker that is controlled by the ACU to annunciate Bell, Chime and Siren tones.
The PC-25T is also available in two steel enclosures. For more details on the models with enclosures PS-A25T, PS-C25T, and PS-C25TU, see Chapter 13.

A. Limited Warranty
ROSSLARE’S FIVE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY is applicable worldwide. This warranty supersedes any other warranty. ROSSLARE'S FIVE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY is subject to the following conditions:
WARRANTY
Warranty of ROSSLARE'S products extends to the original purchaser (Customer) of the ROSSLARE product and is not transferable.
PRODUCTS COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY AND DURATION
ROSSLARE warrants that the AC-Q74 Secured Access Control Unit to be free from defects in materials and assembly in the course of normal use and service. The warranty period commences with the date of shipment to the original purchaser and extends for a period of 5 years (60 months).
WARRANTY REMEDY COVERAGE
In the event of a breach of warranty, ROSSLARE will credit Customer with the price of the Product paid by Customer, provided that the warranty claim is delivered to ROSSLARE by the Customer during the warranty period in accordance with the terms of this warranty. Unless otherwise requested by a ROSSLARE representative, return of the failed product(s) is not immediately required.
If ROSSLARE has not contacted the Customer within a sixty (60) day holding period following the delivery of the warranty claim, Customer will not be required to return the failed product(s). All returned Product(s), as may be requested at ROSSLARE’S sole discretion, shall become the property of ROSSLARE.
To exercise the warranty, the user must contact ROSSLARE Enterprises Ltd. to obtain an RMA number after which, the product must be returned to the Manufacturer freight prepaid and insured.
In the event ROSSLARE chooses to perform a product evaluation within the sixty (60) day holding period and no defect is found, a minimum US$ 50.00 or equivalent charge will be applied to each Product for labor required in the evaluation.

ROSSLARE will repair or replace, at its discretion, any product that under normal conditions of use and service proves to be defective in material or workmanship. No charge will be applied for labor or parts with respect to defects covered by this warranty, provided that the work is done by ROSSLARE or a ROSSLARE authorized service center.
EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS
ROSSLARE shall not be responsible or liable for any damage or loss resulting from the operation or performance of any Product or any systems in which a Product is incorporated. This warranty shall not extend to any ancillary equipment not furnished by ROSSLARE, which is attached to or used in conjunction with a Product, nor to any Product that is used with any ancillary equipment, which is not furnished by ROSSLARE.
This warranty does not cover expenses incurred in the transportation, freight cost to the repair center, removal or reinstallation of the product, whether or not proven defective.
Specifically excluded from this warranty are any failures resulting from Customer's improper testing, operation, installation, or damage resulting from use of the Product in other than its normal and customary manner, or any maintenance, modification, alteration, or adjustment or any type of abuse, neglect, accident, misuse, improper operation, normal wear, defects or damage due to lightning or other electrical discharge. This warranty does not cover repair or replacement where normal use has exhausted the life of a part or instrument, or any modification or abuse of, or tampering with, the Product if Product disassembled or repaired in such a manner as to adversely affect performance or prevent adequate inspection and testing to verify any warranty claim.
ROSSLARE does not warrant the installation, maintenance, or service of the Product. Service life of the product is dependent upon the care it receives and the conditions under which it has to operate.
In no event shall ROSSLARE be liable for incidental or consequential damages.
