The adapter is a dual band 802.11ac client device designed to deliver a high-speed wireless
performance for your desktop. With a faster wireless connection, you can get a better Internet
experience, such as downloading, gaming, and video streaming.
The adapter provides high speed wireless connection with other wireless clients. The incredible
speed makes it ideal for handling multiple data streams at the same time, which ensures
your network stable and smooth. The performance of this 802.11ac wireless will give you the
unexpected networking experience at speed much faster than 802.11n. It is also compatible
with all IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11n products.
The adapter supports WEP, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and WPA/WPA2 encryption to prevent
outside intrusion and protect your personal information from being exposed.
With unmatched wireless performance, reception, and security protection, the RNXAC1200PCEv2 is the best choice for easily adding or upgrading wireless connectivity to your
desktop.

Chapter 2: Installation
2.1 Hardware Installation
2.2 Software Installation
Note:
1. Turn off your computer and unplug the power cord from the computer.
2. Remove the metal slot cover on the back of the PC. Keep the screws. Turn to your computer
manufacturer for instructions if needed.
3. Insert the PCI Express adapter into the PCI Express slot. Make sure that all of its pins have
touched the slot's contacts. Once the adapter has been rmly inserted, screw its fastening
tab. Then, close your PC case.
4. Insert the power cable back into the computer and turn on your computer.
The adapter’s Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation procedures for Windows XP,
Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. The procedures in different systems are quite similar;
therefore here we use the procedures in Windows 10 as an example.
Important Notice:
In order to install the driver successfully, please uninstall other WiFi driver before installing
the driver of RNX-AC1200PCEv2; To install two or more WiFi adapter drivers in one PC, it
may cause conicts between the drivers and cause the WiFi adapter fail to work. You can nd
the installed WiFi adapter drivers and uninstall it in the Control Panel -> Install and Uninstall
Software.
In case the PC has integrated WiFi adapter, please also turn it off before installing RNXAC1200PCEv2 driver. Otherwise, the system will not show which WiFi adapter is working and it
may cause conicts between the adapters.
Follow below steps to install RNX-AC1200PCEv2 driver on your Windows PC:
1. Insert the Resource CD into your CD-ROM drive. Autorun windows will pop up as below
gure 2-2. Please select Windows or Windows XP according to your current operation
system. If autorun doesn't work, then browse the CD, open the folder and double
click Setup.exe to begin.
2. The InstallShield Wizard will pop out, prepare to install and install the driver automatically.
This progress may take 1-3 minutes. Please wait. Do NOT click the "Cancel" button;
otherwise, the installation will stop.
When the hardware has been successfully installed on your computer, you may be prompted
'Found New Hardware Wizard' (as shown in Figure 2-1); please click Cancel, and then follow
the Software Installation steps to install driver and utility for your adapter.

Please install the PCI Express adapter into your computer before installing the driver and utility
software from the Resource CD.

3. After the Wireless LAN driver is installed successfully, you must restart your computer.
Select Yes and click Finish.
4. After restarting the computer, the (Wi-Fi icon) will appear at the right button side in your
system tray.
To connect to a network, please refer to Chapter 3 Connect to a Wireless Network.

3.1 To connect using WPS
3.2 To connect using Windows built-in wireless utility
3.1 To connect using WPS
By this method, you can connect to your network quickly on the condition that your router or
access point supports WPS or QSS as is called by some other products.
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) function allows you to add a new wireless device to an existing
network quickly.
If your wireless Router supports WPS or QSS (Quick Security Setup), you can establish a
wireless connection between wireless card and Router using either Push Button Conguration
(PBC) method or PIN method.
Windows users may use the built-in wireless utility to connect to a wireless network.
With both the hardware and software successfully installed into your computer, you can quickly
connect to a wireless network using one of the following methods.
3.2.1 In Windows XP
Windows XP users may use the built-in wireless utility. Follow the steps below.
1. Right-click on the utility icon in your system tray (lower-right corner). Select Switch to
Windows wireless configuration tool.
2. Right-click on the wireless computer icon in your system tray (lower-right corner). Select
View Available Wireless Networks.

3. The utility will display any available wireless networks in your area. Click on a network
(displayed using the SSID) and click the Connect button.
4. If the network is security-enabled, you will be prompted to enter the key as shown
below. If not, you will connect to the network directly without entering a key.

3.2.2 In Windows 7
Windows 7 users may use the built-in wireless utility. Follow the steps below.
1. Left-click the wireless icon in your system tray (lower-right corner). The utility will
display any available wireless networks in your area. Highlight the wireless network
(displayed using the SSID) to be connected and then click Connect.
2. If the network you would like to connect is encrypted, enter the same security key
or passphrase that is on your router. Or push the WPS/QSS button on the router or
access point (You will be prompted to push the button on the window if WPS function
is supported as shown in the gure below). If the network to be connected is not secure,
the connection will be built without entering a key.
3. When Connected appears behind the SSID, you have successfully connected to the
target network.
3.2.3 In Windows 8
Windows 8 users may use the built-in wireless utility. Follow the steps below.
1. Click the icon at the bottom of your screen, and a network list will appear at the right
side of your screen. Select your target network, and then click Connect.
2. If the network is unencrypted, you will directly connect to it.
If the network is encrypted, enter the password (network security key) and then click
Next to continue.
You can also push the WPS/QSS button on your router as hinted “You can also connect
by pushing the button on the router”. Then click Next to continue.

3. When Connected appears behind the SSID (as shown below), you have successfully
connected to the target network.
If the adapter is connected to the network for the rst time, you will be asked whether
to turn on sharing or connect to devices. Please select “Yes, ...”or “No, ...” according to
your Internet environment.

Chapter 4: Utility Configuration
4.1 General
4.2 Profile
The General tab displays current basic wireless connection information.
The Wireless Adapter provides two modes: Station mode and Access Point mode, the default
is Station mode under Window XP.
You can select connect wirelessly to your Wireless router/AP to connect to Internet in station
mode. But in the Access Point mode, the wireless adapter act as a wireless access point
which can share Internet connection with others. (Access Point Mode requires Wired
Connection).
Using the Prole tab, you can add, remove, edit, duplicate, and set default a prole.
If you want your wireless computers to communicate with other computers on your wired
network via a wireless access point. Click the Add button to create a new infrastructure
prole.
• Status: Wireless network Associated, Ad-hoc Mode or Not Associated.
• Speed: The data Tx rate and Rx rate of the current connection.
• Type: The type of the current wireless connection , Infrastructures or ad hoc
• Encryption: Current encryption.
• SSID: The unique name of the wireless network to which the wireless adapter is connecting.
• Signal Strength: The signal quality of the current connection.
• Link Quality: The link quality of the current wireless connection.
• MAC Address: The MAC Address of the Adapter.
• IP Address: The IP Address of the Adapter.
• Subnet Mask: The Subnet Mask of the Adapter.
• Default Gateway: The Default Gateway address of the Adapter.
• Show Tray Icon: Show USB Wireless LAN Utility icon in the windows taskbar notication area.
• Disable Adapter: Disable the wireless adapter.
• Radio off: Turn off the radio of the wireless adapter.

When the Network Info dialog box appears, enter a name for the new prole. Enter the
Network SSID. Choose the Network Authentication Mode and Data encryption from the
drop-down menu and import the network key. Then click OK button.
If you want your wireless computers communicate with each other directly, click the
Add button to create a new ad-hoc prole. Then, check on below option:
Choose the Network Authentication Mode and Data encryption from the drop-down
menu. And import the network key. Then click OK button. You have successfully
created a profile.
then select the correct operating channel for your network from the Channel drop-down
menu.

Select a prole and click Remove button to delete this prole.
Select a prole and click Edit button to edit this prole.

Select a prole which you want to copy and then click Duplicate
When you want to make one prole as a default wireless connection, you should select
the profile and click Set default button. The wireless adapter will use this profile to
connect to wireless network automatically when the utility running next time.

4.3 Available Network
The Available Network tab displays a list of infrastructure and ad-hoc networks for available
wireless connection
Double-click the network to which you wish to connect.
Choose the Authorization modes and Encryption modes in the drop-down box. If the wireless
network uses a Passphrase, enter the Passphrase in the Passphrase field. If the wireless
network uses a WEP key, enter the WEP key in the Key eld. Click the OK button to complete
the network connection.

Appendix B: Glossary
• 802.11b - The 802.11b standard species a wireless product networking at 11 Mbps using
direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DSSS) technology and operating in the unlicensed radio
spectrum at 2.4GHz, and WEP encryption for security. 802.11b networks are also referred to
as Wi-Fi networks.
• 802.11g - specication for wireless networking at 54 Mbps using direct-sequence spread-
spectrum (DSSS) technology, using OFDM modulation and operating in the unlicensed
radio spectrum at 2.4GHz, and backward compatibility with IEEE 802.11b devices, and WEP
encryption for security.
• 802.11n - 802.11n builds upon previous 802.11 standards by adding MIMO (multiple-input
multiple-output). MIMO uses multiple transmitter and receiver antennas to allow for increased
data throughput via spatial multiplexing and increased range by exploiting the spatial
diversity, perhaps through coding schemes like Alamouti coding. The Enhanced Wireless
Consortium (EWC) was formed to help accelerate the IEEE 802.11n development process
and promote a technology specication for interoperability of next-generation wireless local
area networking (WLAN) products.
• Ad-hoc Network - An ad-hoc network is a group of computers, each with a Wireless Adapter,
connected as an independent 802.11 wireless LAN. Ad-hoc wireless computers operate on a
peer-to-peer basis, communicating directly with each other without the use of an access
point. Ad-hoc mode is also referred to as an Independent Basic Service Set (IBSS) or as peer to-peer mode, and is useful at a departmental scale or SOHO operation.
• DSSS - (Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum) - DSSS generates a redundant bit pattern for all
data transmitted. This bit pattern is called a chip (or chipping code).
Even if one or more bits in the chip are damaged during transmission, statistical techniques
embedded in the receiver can recover the original data without the need of retransmission.
To an unintended receiver, DSSS appears as low power wideband noise and is rejected
(ignored) by most narrowband receivers. However, to an intended receiver (i.e. another
wireless LAN endpoint), the DSSS signal is recognized as the only valid signal, and
interference is inherently rejected (ignored).
• FHSS - (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) - FHSS continuously changes (hops) the
carrier frequency of a conventional carrier several times per second according to a pseudo random set of channels. Because a xed frequency is not used, and only the transmitter and
receiver know the hop patterns, interception of FHSS is extremely difcult.
• Infrastructure Network - An infrastructure network is a group of computers or other devices,
each with a Wireless Adapter, connected as an 802.11 wireless LAN. In infrastructure mode,
the wireless devices communicate with each other and to a wired network by rst going
through an access point. An infrastructure wireless network connected to a wired network
is referred to as a Basic Service Set (BSS). A set of two or more BSS in a single network is
referred to as an Extended Service Set (ESS). Infrastructure mode is useful at a corporation
scale, or when it is necessary to connect the wired and wireless networks.
• SSID - A Service Set Identication is a thirty-two character (maximum) alphanumeric key
identifying a wireless local area network. For the wireless devices in a network to
communicate with each other, all devices must be congured with the same SSID. This is
typically the conguration parameter for a wireless PC card. It corresponds to the ESSID in
the wireless Access Point and to the wireless network name. See also Wireless Network
Name and ESSID.
• WEP - (Wired Equivalent Privacy) - A data privacy mechanism based on a 64 or 128-bit or
152-bit shared key algorithm, as described in the IEEE 802.11 standard. To gain access to a
WEP network, you must know the key. The key is a string of characters that you create.
When using WEP, you must determine the level of encryption. The type of encryption
determines the key length. 128-bit encryption requires a longer key than 64-bit encryption.
Keys are dened by entering in a string in HEX (hexadecimal - using characters 0-9, A-F) or
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange – alphanumeric characters)
format. ASCII format is provided so you can enter a string that is easier to remember.
The ASCII string is converted to HEX for use over the network. Four keys can be dened so
that you can change keys easily.
• Wi-Fi - A trade name for the 802.11b wireless networking standard, given by the Wireless
Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA, see http://www.wi-.net), an industry standards group
promoting interoperability among 802.11b devices.
• WLAN - (Wireless Local Area Network) - A group of computers and associated devices
communicate with each other wirelessly, which network serving users are limited in a local
area.
• WPA - (Wi-Fi Protected Access) - A wireless security protocol use TKIP (Temporal Key
Integrity Protocol) encryption, which can be used in conjunction with a RADIUS server

This chapter provides solutions to problems that may occur during the installation and
operation of the Wireless USB Adapter. Read the descriptions below to solve your problems.
1. I cannot communicate with the other computers linked via Ethernet in the
Infrastructure configuration.
• Make sure that the PC to which the Adapter is associated is powered on.
• Make sure that your Adapter is congured on the same channel and with the same security
options as with the other computers in the Infrastructure conguration.
2. What should I do when the computer with the Adapter installed is unable to connect to
the wireless network and/or the Internet?
• Check that the LED indicators for the broadband modem are indicating normal activity.
If not, there may be a problem with the broadband connection.
• Check that the LED indicators on the wireless router are functioning properly. If not, check
that the AC power and Ethernet cables are rmly connected.
• Check that the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS settings are correctly entered
for the network.
• In Infrastructure mode, make sure the same Service Set Identier (SSID) is specied on the
settings for the wireless clients and access points.
• In Ad-Hoc mode, both wireless clients will need to have the same SSID. Please note that it
might be necessary to set up one client to establish a BSS (Basic Service Set) and wait
briey before setting up other clients. This prevents several clients from trying to establish a
BSS at the same time, which can result in multiple singular BSSs being established, rather
than a single BSS with multiple clients associated to it.
• Check that the Network Connection for the wireless client is congured properly.
• If Security is enabled, make sure that the correct encryption keys are entered on both the
Adapter and the access point.
