Before Initial Use
CAUTION!
Clean the portion jars and lids in the manner described in this chapter. They may still
have some production residue on them.
Keep children away from the packaging material. There is a danger of suffocation, as
well as other hazards!
Make sure that the power supply is switched off when the device is not being used.
1. Unpack all parts and check the items supplied for completeness (see the "Items Supplied and Device Overview" chapter) and transport damage. If you find any damage to the components, do not use them (!). Contact our customer service department.
2. Remove any films or stickers that may be present.
3. Clean the portion jars and their lids thoroughly with a mild detergent and warm water or in the dishwasher. Then thoroughly dry the jars and lids.
What You Need To Do To Make Yogurt
To make your own yogurt, you need milk and yogurt as a starting culture. This is because it contains lactic acid bacteria which convert the lactose contained in the milk into lactic acid. This gives the yogurt its fresh tart flavor. The bacteria increases rapidly in warm environment – this causes more and more lactose to be broken down to turn milk into yogurt. As an alternative to yogurt, you can also use freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria, e.g. from a health food store. For solid yogurt, you can also add some milk powder. You should note the following with the ngredients:
Milk
The main ingredient for making yogurt is milk. The most suitable milk is Ultra High Temperature (UHT) milk with a fat content of 3.5%. Only pasteurized milk or untreated milk needs to be boiled beforehand. When it comes to the fat content, you can decide on the level to suit your own personal taste. The higher fat content the milk, the creamier and milder the yogurt will be. If you want to make a yogurt to drink, you should use low-fat milk.
As well as cow's milk, you can also use goat's milk or soy milk.
Yogurt
Use natural yogurt without any additives as the starting culture. It must not have been heat-treated because it needs to contain living lactic acid bacteria. The fat content should be the same as that of the milk used.

Making Yogurt
CAUTION!
Make sure that all ingredients are fresh and are not yet past their use-by date! The device must not be subjected to any vibrations during operation. For example, do
not place it on a refrigerator and do not move it.
Never place the insulated container in the refrigerator.
You require approx.:
1 liter of milk (ideally UHT milk with a fat content of 3.5%) 1 cup (150 g) of natural yogurt (3.5% fat content) or freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria (In this case,
the preparation time may be increased by 2 hours.)
if necessary, 2 to 3 tbsp. of milk powder for the consistency (In the case of full-fat milk, the
milk powder is not absolutely essential; in the case of skimmed milk, double the quantity of milk
powder.) The milk, yogurt, and portion jars should be at room temperature. If necessary, rinse out the jars with hot water.
If you heat the milk up to around 98.6° to 104°F, the yogurt will be ready more quickly. However, the milk must not be hotter than 109.4°F so that the lactic acid bacteria are not destroyed.
1. Mix the ingredients together well and pour the mixture (treated milk) into the portion jars.
2. Place the insulated container on a dry, heat-resistant, flat surface away from flammable objects. Make sure that the device is not accessible to children.
3. Plug the main plug into a properly installed, easily accessible and grounded 120 volt plug socket.
4. Place the filled portion jars without their lids into the insulated container.
5. Place the lid on the insulated container and switch it on (flip the On/Off switch to the I position).
6. The bottom of the container will warm up and the treated milk is kept warm at a constant temperature.
7. The yogurt will be ready after around 8 to 15 hours (depending on which ingredients are chosen). Remove the lid from the insulated container after around 8 hours (Make sure that no condensation gets into the jars!) and check the consistency of the yogurt.
Warm yogurt has a slightly more liquid consistency, and it will become more solid in the refrigerator.
8. If the yogurt is still too liquid, allow it to "incubate" for a while. Otherwise switch off the device (flip the On/Off switch to the 0 position) and pull the mains plug out of the socket.
9. Screw the lids onto the jars and allow the yogurt to cool down. Before serving, place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
The yogurt can be kept in the refrigerator for around a week.

Keep some yogurt for the next batch. You can repeat this process around 10 times and then the yogurt bacteria are all used up. For a new batch, you will once again require purchased yogurt or freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria.
Yogurt For Any Taste
Jam, honey, caramel, fruit, muesli or spices: You can add some of the things you like best to your yogurt.
If you want to add fruit: As fruit acid kills the lactic acid bacteria and the fermentation could not
therefore take place, the treated milk must not be mixed with fresh fruit. We therefore recommend that you mix fresh fruit in with the finished yogurt or place boiled fruit or jam into the portion jars first and then add the treated milk. You can of course also mix jam, honey or boiled fruit with the finished yogurt.
If you would like to add flavor to the yogurt, you can either add a few drops of flavoring or extract to
the milk which you are heating during the preparation phase, or you can place the spice, the peel etc. into the milk for around 12 hours and then remove everything before you start making the yogurt.
You can very easily use yogurt to make Ayran, the refreshing Turkish drink: Stir yogurt together in a
ratio of 2 to 1 with iced water and a little salt to create a froth (ideally in a food processor). Garnish with lemon balm or peppermint.
Or you can leave out the salt and add sugar and mango to the yogurt/water mixture. You will then
get a mango lassi, which is a popular drink in India.
Cleaning and Care
CAUTION!
Never immerse the insulated container, mains cable or plug in water or other liquids. Do not use any corrosive, abrasive or poisonous cleaning agents. Do not spray cleaning
agents directly onto the device.
Remove the mains plug from the socket before cleaning the device. Allow the insulated container to cool down before cleaning it.
After each use, clean the portion jars and their lids thoroughly with a mild detergent and warm
water or in the dishwasher.
If necessary, wipe down the insulated container and its lid with a clean damp cloth. Check the mains cable for damage at regular intervals.
