1.0 About this guide
This guide provides instructions for installing the Rosemount 5708 3D Solids
Scanner in small vessel connections using the manhole mounting tool kit. It
does not provide instructions for mounting the scanner head, electrical
installation, or configuration.
Refer to the Rosemount 5708 Quick Start Guide
Reference Manual for more instructions. The manual and this guide are also
available electronically on Emerson.com/Rosemount.
Authorized personnel
All operations described in this document must be carried out by authorized, trained personnel only.
For safety and warranty reasons, any internal work on the devices must be carried out by
manufacturer-authorized personnel only.
Warnings about misuse
Inappropriate or incorrect use of the device may result in hazards and application-specific malfunctioning,
such as vessels overfill or damage to system components through incorrect mounting or adjustments.
If the device is used in a manner not specified in this document, the protection provided by the device will
be impaired.

rules during installation.
Substitution of components may impair intrinsic safety.
For preventing ignition of flammable or combustible atmospheres, read, understand and adhere to the

Standard tools (e.g. screwdriver, pliers)
60 mm wrench
Wrench to secure the mounting plate bolts
2 mm hex key
Two ropes of appropriate type and length (see page 6)

2.0 Install the antenna
Step 1: Verify the O-rings are in place

Step 2: Remove the nut from the neck tube

Step 3: Mount the installation adapter on the antenna
Step 4: Place the mounting plate and nut on the scanner’s
mounting hole

Step 5: Pull the rope through to the manhole
Secure one end of the rope and pull the other end through the nut, mounting
plate, and mounting hole to the manhole.
Step 6: Tie the rope to the installation adapter
Note
Consider securing the antenna by tying an additional rope to the adapter from the
manhole opening to prevent the scanner from hitting the side walls.

the mounting hole

Step 1: Slightly loosen the nut
Step 2: Rotate the antenna
The notch on top of the thread must be directed toward the vessel center.
