The SE162 is an impedance matching device with a unique and usefull addition - sonic excitment. It was designed by sound engineers who desired a way to take signals that may need some frequency loss compensation, and send the purified signals down long lines.

OWNERS MANUAL
Thank you for your purchase of the Rolls SE162 DI/Sonic Exciter. This product has been designed for years of useful service. We take pride in our products and appreciate any comments you may have regarding them. The SE162 takes your program material and adds new life, clarity, and three dimensionality to your sounds, as well as converting a high impedance signal to low impedance. Please read the following manual carefully to ensure proper operation, and enjoy your new SE162.
INSPECTO N
1. Unpack and Inspect the SE162 package Your SE162 was carefully packed at the factory in a protective carton. Nonetheless, be sure to examine the unit and the carton for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. If obvious physical damage is noticed, contact the carrier immediately to make a damage claim. We suggest saving the shipping carton and packing materials for safely transporting the unit in the future.
2. Please complete the Warranty Registration Card and return it to the factory.
DESCRIPTION
ACTIVE SWITCH: Engages and disengages the SE162 process. When out, the unit is bypassed. INPUT: Controls the level of input signal. BOTTOM: Controls the low frequency cut/boost (flat or no cut/boost is at about 11’clock). There is a 0 to 1/2 turn spectrum spread from mid-range to bass with this control as well as amplitude control. DEFINITION: Controls the amount of sonic clarity and sound spread. Setting it on 0 is flat response and minimal spread, on 10 is maximum spread and definition. PWR LED: Indicates that the RP262 is connected to an AC outlet, and the power is turned on.

WHAT IS A SONIC EXCITER?
The human ear can detect a frequency range of roughly 20Hz to 20kHz. However, the frequency response that a normal speaker can effectively reproduce is much, much less. Additionally, speakers add distortion and phase changes that make the sound quite different from that of the original material.
A sonic exciter restores clarity and presence to the processed signal by correcting phase changes and harmonic structure differences. In other words, it puts the components of the sound back where they belong.
All of this magic is done by the use of all-pass filtering, frequency compensated gain adjustment, and compensated frequency domain delay. What this means to you is the elements of your sound are fanned out like a deck of cards, making each sound more audible and distinct, reducing the need for high volume and radical equalizer adjustment.
