INTRODUCTION
The Modbus Gateway is a communicaon device that enables up to 3 Modbus
masters, two via RS-232 or RS-485 and one via RS-232, to communicate and
share a single Modbus slave device via RS-232 or RS-485.
QUICKSTART
1. Connect battery terminal as indicated on Wiring Diagram
2. Connect slave device on COM4 on the appropriate interface
3. Connect master devices on COM1-COM3 on the appropriate interface

APPENDIX
Esmang Modbus Serial Message Timing
It is crucial to esmate the transmission me for Modbus messages in order
to set proper communicaon. For the Modbus Gateway sengs (9600 baud,
1-8-N-1) the transmission me from a master to the Modbus Gateway can be
esmated using the following formula:
Time
master-gateway
The transmission time from the Modbus gateway to the device can be estimated using the
following formula:
Time
gateway-slave
The total transmission time from master to device can be estimated using the following
formula:
Time
master-slave
Time
master-slave
Finally, taking into account there is likelihood that there may be at least two messages
buffered from the other two masters, the minimum timeout period should be
Timeout
Also, please note that the Modbus Gateway has incorporated a 4 second meout while
waing for a response from the slave device. This meout should be taken into account
within the master meout interval. If not taken into account it will result in the loss of
messages sent during the 4 second period.
