6.3 Starting/Switching on.

• Turn on the all-in-one PC.

• Switch on the ImpressionIST® 3 at the main switch.

• Select the predefined user “ImpressionIST”

• Enter the password for this user (default: “Rodenstock”)

• Change the default password to a self selected secure password

• Start the ImpressionIST® 3 software.

• Align the top camera to approximate eye level of the person being
measured.

• Do not jam fingers during movement of measuring slide.

• Follow the measuring instructions set out in the attached short
manual.

6.4 Stopping/Switching off.

• Close the ImpressionIST® software.

• Switch off the PC system using the “shutdown” command.

• Then switch off the ImpressionIST® 3 at the main switch.

Repair work and rectification of damage may only be
carried out by Rodenstock Service & Support personnel.
Replacement of defective parts:

• If the flash unit is defective it must be replaced
in full.

• In case of a replacement of the measuring slide
be aware of fast upwards movement.

• Replace the glass and mirror surfaces.

If faults occur during operation so that the device does not operate
as described in this instruction manual or if it is no longer possible to
operate the device, switch off the main switch and then switch it on
again a few seconds later. Use the normal procedure for switching on
the system.

7 Waste disposal.

1 Basic information.

We reserve the right to make technical modifications to the images
and details contained in this instruction manual if we believe that
they are required to improve the device.

Intended use.

The “Rodenstock ImpressionIST® 3” device is designed exclusively for
measuring ophthalmic parameters and as a tool for providing advice.
Other use of this device is regarded as unintended.
The intended use also includes the following:

• Compliance with all the information in the instruction manual and
other manuals.

• Completion of all the specified inspection, repair and servicing
work.

Function, brief description.

The device is designed for stationary use, a measuring and advice
tool to determine important ophthalmic parameters required for
individual lens manufacturing.

comply with Directive 2006/95/EC (Low Voltage Directive) and its
safety requirements.

6.5 Maintenance and care.

• Do not use methylated spirits or benzene to clean the
glass surfaces, mirror surfaces and the powder-coated casing
parts.

• Only use conventional glass or window cleaning products
(forexample Sidolin) to clean the glass surfaces.

• Only clean water should be used to clean painted or powder-coated
surfaces or water with a little detergent for stubborn dirt.

• Use only a fine microfiber cloth to clean these surfaces.

Purpose of this instruction manual.

– This manual is provided with the intention of being read, under-

stood and observed in every respect by the personnel responsible
for the “Rodenstock ImpressionIST® 3” device.

– The complete instruction manual should be near the device

for future use.

– This instruction manual makes special reference to the details of

the device which are required to operate it without problems.

– Only those who are familiar with this instruction manual will be

able to avoid errors on the device and make sure that it operates
perfectly. Therefore it is very important that the responsible person
for the device is familiar with this instruction manual.

1.1 Follow the instructions set out in the instruction manual:

• The basic requirement for handling this device safely and operating it
without problems is being familiar with the basic safety information
and the safety instructions set out in this instruction manual.

• This instruction manual, particularly the safety information, must
be followed by everybody who works with the device. In addition the
rules and regulations for accident prevention which are applicable
at the place of use must also be followed.

1.2 Personnel qualifications and training.

The personnel responsible for the operation, servicing and assembly
of the device must be appropriately qualified for this work.
The owner of the device must provide clear rules as to the delimita­tions, responsibilities and supervision of the personnel. If the personnel
does not have the requisite skills, they must be given training and
instruction. If necessary, this may be provided by the manufacturer
on behalf of the owner of the device. In addition the owner must
ensure that the content of this instruction manual has been fully
understood by the operating personnel.

1.3 Dangers involved with handling the device.

The Rodenstock ImpressionIST® 3 device has been designed, built
and certified to be state of the art and comply with the acknowledged
safety regulations. Nevertheless its use may present risks of injury
oreven death to the user or third parties or damage to the device or
other property. The device may only be used for its intended purpose
and if it is in perfectly safe condition.
Faults which may adversely affect its safety must be rectified without
delay.

1.4 Safety equipment and guards.

All guards must be correctly fitted and function before the device is
started. Guards may only be removed when the device is at a stand­still and after it has been secured to prevent it being started.

2 Basic safety information.

2.5 Explanation of the danger symbols.

The following names and symbols are used to indicate dangers in this
instruction manual:

This symbol means “Danger” of injury or even death of

personnel!
Failure to obey these instructions may result in serious health
consequences or even death.

This symbol indicates important information for handling

the device correctly.
Failure to obey these instructions may result in faults on the device or
in the area around it.

2.6 Informal safety action by the owner.

• T he instruction manual must be kept at the place of use of the
device at all times.

• In addition to the instruction manual the general and the local

regulations for accident prevention and environmental protection
must be provided and obeyed.

• The safety information on the device must be kept in legible form

at all times.

2.7 Safety action during normal use.

• Only use the device if all the guards on it are fully functional.

Before you switch on the device ensure that nobody can be placed
in danger by the moving parts of the device.

2.8 Danger posed by electric power.

• Work on the electrical supply may only be carried
out by a trained electrician.

• Covers may only be removed by authorised trained
Electrical personnel.

• The device’s electrical equipment must be checked
for signs of damage at regular intervals (supply cable,
power supply, etc.).

• Prevent the ingress of water.

2.9 Special dangers.

• The screws in the base plate must not be undone
without authorisation.

• The mirror column must be secured during the assembly
process to prevent it tipping or falling over.

• Incautious handling, for example placing them on their
edge, may result in the mirrors breaking causing shards
of glass that can in turn cause injuries.

2.10 Servicing, maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Carry out the specific setting, servicing and inspection
work on schedule.

• Switch off the device, secure the main switch to prevent
it being switched on unexpectedly and disconnect the
plug from the power supply before all servicing, inspec­tion and repair work.

• After you have completed the servicing work check the
function of the safety equipment.

2.11 Modifications to the Rodenstock ImpressionIST® 3.

• Do not make any changes to, or modifications on the device,
without the consent of the manufacturer.

• All modification work requires written confirmation. Device
components which are not in perfect condition must be replaced
immediately.

forth for an uncontrolled enviroment and it also complies
with Part 15 of the FCC RF Rules. This equipment must be
installed and operated in accordance with provided
instruction and the antenna(s) used for this transmitter must
be installed to provide a separation distance of at least 20 cm
from all persons and must not be co-located or operating in
conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.

3 Transport.

3.2 Packaging.

The transport distance and the export country have a major bearing
on the type of packaging.

• The packaging must be designed in compliance with the guidelines
provided by the Wooden Packaging, Pallets and Export Packaging
(HPE).

• The marks for transport must comply with DIN 55402 Part 1 and
Part 2.

• DHL 2 packaging if necessary

3.3 Information and protection for transport.

• Proceed with particular care when transporting the device to
prevent damage caused by the effects of force or incautious
loading and unloading.

• Condensation formation caused by large temperature fluctuations
must be prevented during transport, as well as impacts.

• The pictorial symbols on the packaging in highly visible areas must
be observed.

• Incautious handling, for example placing them on their edge, may
result in the mirrors breaking causing shards of glass that can in
turn cause injuries.

3.4 Inspection by the recipient on arrival.

The supplied parts and their packaging must be checked to ensure
that they are complete and for signs of damage or other
peculiarities.

3.5 Report and document transport damage.

Document any signs of damage you find immediately
(sketch, instant camera, digital camera and a description
of the damage).

• Have the damage confirmed in writing by the forwarder.

• Forward the documents without delay to Rodenstock GmbH/
Customer Service Systems; [e-mail].

3.6 Unpacking.

The device may only be unpacked and assembled with
the supplied components by technicians familiar with the
device.
Caution! Some components are made of glass (no safety

glass).

Caution! The base plate has a weight of approx. 80 Lb
and may not fall while unpacked.

• The packaging material must be disposed of correctly or reused.

• Specific handling aid and transport lock must be kept bythe cus­tomer. They must be stored in case the device is moved again in
the future.

3.7 Handling points.

Never attach lifting gear to mountings such as the table

(stand version), measuring slide, etc.

3.8 Temporary storage.

• If the device is not assembled immediately after delivery it must
be stored carefully in a protected location. The system must
be covered properly so that no moisture or dirt can get into it.

• The device must not be stored outdoors.

3.9 Ambient conditions.

The ambient conditions (humidity and temperature) at the
final location for the device must be equivalent to standard
room conditions.

4 Technical data.

4.2 Ambient temperatures for operation.

The ambient temperature of the system during operation should
be between 15°C and 35°C (59°F - 95°F) to ensure that all the
modules operate perfectly.

An Ad-hoc & Master mode won’t be used from ImpressionIST® 3.

5 Installation and first use.

5.1 General.

The device may only be assembled by fitters who are familiar with
thesystem.
Please note that the device may only be lifted by load-bearing parts.

Never attach lifting gear to mountings such as the mirror

box, etc.
Caution! Some components are made of glass (not safety
glass).

5.2 Location.

A location where normal room conditions prevail must be selected for
the device.

• Clear the required space.

• Prepare the required connections for electrics, IT, etc.

5.3 Installation and connection.

Depending on its version (stand or wall) the device

must be secured and/or anchored.

• Any components soiled by the transport process must be cleaned
ifnecessary (do not use methylated spirits or benzene).

• The energy and supply connections must be made as shown on
theconnection diagram.

• The device must be adjusted using the spirit level on the rear.
The spirit level must be read using a parallex-free method
(slide cover on the rear to the floor 90 degrees).

• Screws and plugs used for mounting of the wall version have to be
construed for a weight of 100 Lb (including safety buffer).

5.4 First use.

The initial setup for the first use may only be carried out by the
forwarder or service/support.
When the device is started for the first time the following must be
checked:

– Connections

– Safety equipment

• Initial installation of the PC

• Check the calibration

• Initiate a test flash

Read the section entitled “Operation” in full before you
undertake the first steps.

5.5 Shutting down (EMERGENCY STOP).

If despite all the precautions, situations occur which

present a danger to you or are uncontrollable, you should
shut down the device at the main switch and disconnect
the main cable.

6 Operation.

The device consists of the following:

• A mechanical measuring slide (1) to adjust the height of the stereo
camera system (2).

• The integral flash unit (4) and the corresponding flash modules (5).

6.2 Safety information.

Information about the hardware:

• The system must not be exposed to any impacts or vibrations.

• Switch off the device and restart it after a power failure.

• Data and network connection cables must be free of tension and
routed such that they do not constitute a stumbling risk.

• Damaged network cables must not be used.

• Additional devices may only be connected or disconnected after
the device has been switched off. The device-specific connection
conditions are set out in the product documentation supplied by
the device manufacturer.

• Always start and stop the device as described in this manual.

• The housing parts on the Rodenstock ImpressionIST® 3 may only be
opened by customer service personnel.

• Only Rodenstock technicians may adjust the camera system.

• Important information for cleaning your device is provided in the
points headed “Maintenance and care”.

The device must be installed such that the main switch
can be accessed easily at all times.
Only operate the device if all the guards are fully functional
and there are no obvious signs of damage on the device.
If despite all the precautions situations occur which

present a danger to you or are uncontrollable, you should

shut down the device at the main switch and disconnect
the main cable.
