into the metal slot retainer shown in the illustration at left.
To facilitate the need for on-line replacement of an unhealthy I/O module, the interface cable is designed to provide the user with two different methods for on-line maintenance. The first method involves the use of a dual connector hood. The dual connectors allocate an adjacent slot in the Trusted
TM
chassis for a hot-replacement
module. Refer to Figure 1 below for more details regarding a dedicated spare slot approach.
The second method of hot replacement uses a “one-to-many” approach. This feature is called the SmartSlot Link (SSL). The SSL furnishes the method to use a single I/O module slot as a hot replacement slot. This configuration reduces I/O chassis space by using a single slot for hot replacement of all modules of that type. In this case the I/O cable has a second socket on the back of the module end for connecting a cable to the hot replacement slot.

DESCRIPTION

The 40-channel T8831 Trusted Termination Assembly (FTA) is the primary interface between the Trusted Input module and the field device (wiring) loop. The model T8831 is designed for use in nonincendive applications. The FTA is supplied with both 150 loop current and 250 dropping resistors.
The FTA is made up of several components: the interface cable connector and hood lock, loop power distribution, dropping resistors, and field input terminations.
To reduce integration time, the interface cable which connects the FTA and its I/O module is pre-assembled and fitted with a pair of specialized hoods. These hoods are used to secure the cable in place. The FTA hood fits
