DESCRIPTION

The ICS Triplex Speed Monitor module takes turbine speed measurement and protection to a new level. TUV approved SIL 3 compliant and fully TMR, the Speed Monitor exceeds the requirements of API670 and API612. The Speed Monitor has triplicated processors on the module which provide overspeed and over acceleration trip functions completely independent of the main Trusted processors. This provides true separation between the protection functions and application logic running in the Trusted processors. In fact the Speed Monitor will continue to protect rotating equipment even if the Trusted processors are completely removed from the system. This unique separation is called TMR within a TMR system! Full diagnostics on the Speed Monitor reveal any faults and on-line replacement without shutting down is quick and easy using the adjacent Companion Slot. Execution speed is independent of the Trusted processor scan time and overspeed protection is accomplished in under 20ms making the Speed Monitor suitable for high RPM applications.

The Speed Monitor can accept up to 9 pulse inputs, active, passive or open collector at speeds over 30,000 Hz. Each pulse input is fully triplicated and power is available on the termination for active probes. The module has 6 relay discrete outputs, 3 overspeed and 3 over acceleration, each output capable of interfacing to a wide range of voltages. Each of the 6 discrete outputs contains a quad relay architecture that allows the Speed Monitor to fully monitor and test the relays while the turbine is running. Failed relays (welded contacts, failed coils, etc.) are identified by the built in diagnostics and can be replaced without shutting down. The Speed Monitor is truly online repairable.
