ATTENTION: In case of malfunction or damage, no attempts at repair should be made. The module should be returned to the manufacturer for repair. Do not dismantle
the module.

ATTENTION: When installed in a 1756 Series C Chassis, this equipment is certified for use only within the surrounding air temperature range of 0…60 °C (32…140 °F).
The equipment must not be used outside of this range. When installed in a 1756 Series B Chassis, this equipment is certified for use only within the surrounding air
temperature range of 0…50 °C (32…122 °F). The equipment must not be used outside of this range.

ATTENTION: Use only a soft dry anti-static cloth to wipe down equipment. Do not use any cleaning agents.

WARNING: This product contains a type BR1225A lithium battery which may need to be replaced during the life of the product. For instructions on the removal and

replacement of the battery, see "Replace the battery (page 17)".
At the end of its life, the battery contained in this product should be collected separately from any unsorted municipal waste.
The collection and recycling of batteries helps protect the environment and contributes to the conservation of natural resources as valuable materials are recovered.

Environment and enclosure

ATTENTION: This equipment is intended for use in a Pollution Degree 2 industrial environment, in overvoltage Category II applications (as defined in EN/IEC 60664-1),

at altitudes up to 2000 m (6562 ft) without derating.
This equipment is not intended for use in residential environments and may not provide adequate protection to radio communication services in such environments.
This equipment is supplied as open-type equipment for indoor use. It must be mounted within an enclosure that is suitably designed for those specific environmental

conditions that will be present and appropriately designed to prevent personal injury resulting from accessibility to live parts. The enclosure must have suitable
flame-retardant properties to prevent or minimize the spread of flame, complying with a flame spread rating of 5VA or be approved for the application if nonmetallic.
The interior of the enclosure must be accessible only by the use of a tool. Subsequent sections of this publication may contain more information regarding specific
enclosure type ratings that are required to comply with certain product safety certifications.

 Touch a grounded object to discharge potential static.
 Wear an approved grounding wrist strap.
 Do not touch connectors or pins on component boards.
 Do not touch circuit components inside the equipment.
 Use a static-safe workstation, if available.
 Store the equipment in appropriate static-safe packaging when not in use.

The following information applies when operating this equipment in hazardous
locations:

Products marked "CL I, DIV 2, GP A, B, C, D" are suitable for use in Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C, D,
hazardous locations and nonhazardous locations only. Each product is supplied with markings on the
rating nameplate indicating the hazardous location temperature code. W hen combining products
within a system, the most adverse temperature code (low est "T" number) may be used to help
determine the overall temperature code of the syst em. Combinations of equipment in your system
are subject to investigation by the local Authority Having Jurisdiction at the ti me of installation.

Prepare the chassis for the module installation

Before installing the module, install and connect a ControlLogix chassis and power supply.

Determine the module slot location

It is possible to install the module in any slot in the ControlLogix chassis. Once the FactoryTalk Historian ME module runs in a particular slot, it is not
recommended to move the module to a new slot because this may result in the same tags being considered as different points.

There can be a maximum of two FactoryTalk Historian ME modules in a single chassis.

The figure below shows chassis slot numbering in a 4-slot chassis. Slot 0 is the first slot and is always the leftmost slot in the rack (the first slot to the
right of the power supply).

Remove the battery paper tab

The FactoryTalk Historian ME module uses a battery to maintain the real-time clock when there is no power applied to the module. A battery is
installed in the module when it ships.

A red paper tab covers the side of the battery that faces the backplane when the module is installed in a chassis.

Before installing the module, remove the battery paper tab by pulling it off.

Install or remove the module under power

This module is designed to be installed or removed while chassis power is applied. It is recommended to stop all data collection services before removing
the module.

WARNING: When you insert or remove a module while backplane power is on, an electrical arc may occur. An electrical arc can cause personal injury or property
damage by:

 Sending an erroneous signal to your system’s field device causing unintended machine motion or loss of process control.
 Causing an explosion in a hazardous environment.

Repeated electrical arcing causes excessive wear to contacts on both the module and its mating connector. Worn contacts may create electrical resistance that can affect
module operation.

Connect the module to the Ethernet network

WARNING: If you connect or disconnect the Ethernet cable with power applied to this module or any device on the network, an electrical arc can occur. This could cause

an explosion in hazardous location installations. Be sure that power is removed or the area is nonhazardous before proceeding.

To connect the module to the Ethernet network, attach the RJ45 connector to the Ethernet port on the front of the module as shown.

IMPORTANT

It is recommended to connect the module to the network via a 100 MB or 1GB Ethernet switch, which reduces collisions and lost packets, and increases
network bandwidth. For detailed Ethernet connection information, refer to the ControlLogix Ethernet/IP Bridge Module Installation Instructions.

2. Set the switch to the ON position as shown. Power will be applied to the chassis.

Check the power supply and the module status

Check the LED indicators and the four-character LED display to determine if the power supply and module are operating properly.

It can take up to four to five minutes for the module to become fully operational once power is applied.

The Status LED lights provide the following information:

BAT Actual indication of battery condition. Indicates battery status.

STS Off Indicates application status. See

OK Green Indicates module status. Single bi-color red/green LED.

This LED is currently not operational in the series B
module.

Single bi-color red/green LED.

 Flashing r ed indicates that data collection is active but data

transfer is inactive.

 Solid r ed indicates that data collection is inactive. Check the

interface or scrolling text on the display for more
information.

 Flashing green indicat es that data collection is active but

data transfer is not configured.

 Solid green indicates that both data collection and data

transfer are active.

 Red indicate s that a major fault has occurred in th e module.
 Green in dicates that the module is operating normally.

Four-character LED display messages

The four-character LED display provides system status messages in a static and/or scrolling string on the front panel of the Historian ME module. Once
an application is started, it has the responsibility of controlling this display.

The four-character LED display provides the following information:

Application status

The application status is composed of four application subsystems, as described in the following table.

If more than one of the four statuses exist, they display consecutively with two-second duration between each message.

NOTE

 The "Not conf igured" status displays if neither the data transfer nor the data collection is configured.

Otherwise, the status is empty.

 The "No point s" status displays if the data collection is not configured, but the data transfer is configured.

 The dat a collection is not configured if the number of subscribed points from the data server is zero (0).
 The dat a transfer is not configured if the SE Host Server Name or IP address is not entered or is not resolved.

 The "Collect ok" status displays if the data collection is active and properly configured.
 The "Collect stopped" status displays if the data collection is configured but not active.

 The "Uplo ad stopped" status displays if the data transfer is configured but not active, and the data

collection status is not “idle”. Otherwise, the data transfer status is empty.

 The "Stora ge critical" status displays if Data Storage reaches 50% capacity (default value for the first

threshold).

 The "Stora ge full" status displays if Data Storage reaches 75% capacity (default value for the secon d

threshold). Otherwise, the Data Storage status is empty.

Ethernet port LED information

The Ethernet port LED on the 10/100/1000 BASET connector supports IEEE 802.3.

The following table summarizes the Ethernet port LED functions.

Replace the battery

The FactoryTalk Historian ME module uses a battery to maintain the real-time clock when there is no power applied to the module. A battery is
installed in the module when it ships.

It is possible to replace the battery if necessary. The battery is a Panasonic TYPE BR1225A coin type lithium battery. Replacement batteries are
commercially available.

Battery life depends on how much time the module is not powered. When the module is

installed in a powered ControlLogix chassis, it does not use the battery, which results in greater
battery life.

When replacing the battery, the module's date and time may be restored to the initial values. If
this occurs and the module restarts, it starts in safe mode.

To replace the battery

1. Pull the white plastic battery holder from the back of the module.

If necessary, pull the holder out far enough to use a small screwdriver to take out the battery. In this case, insert the screwdriver from the side of
the battery that faces the module printed circuit board.

IMPORTANT

There are metal guides that hold the battery holder in place. Do not attempt to remove the metal
guides.

2. Remove the old battery from the holder.

3. Insert a new battery into the holder.

IMPORTANT

Before inserting a new battery, make sure of correct orientation. The battery side with words and
numbers needs to face away from the printed circuit board. Incorrect battery orientation may
lead to damage to the battery holder.

4. Reinstall the battery holder in the back of the module.

Install first the narrower part of the holder into the metal guides.

5. Push the battery holder all the way into the back of the module.
