INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Congratulations – your new Work-Rite load assists are quality products capable of improving the handling and comfort of your vehicle while under load. As with all products, proper installation is the key to obtaining all of the benefits your kit is capable of delivering. Please take a few minutes to read through the instructions to identify the components and learn where and how they are used. It is a good idea to start by comparing the parts in your kit with the parts list below.
NOTE: IF ANY PARTS ARE MISSING FROM THE KIT,
PLEASE CALL 1-800-888-0650.
PLEASE DO NOT CALL OR RETURN THE KIT TO THE DEALER.
Be sure to take all applicable safety precautions during the installation of the kit. The instructions listed in this brochure and the illustrations all show the left, or driver’s side of the vehicle. To install the right side assembly simple follow the same procedures.
STEP 1 – PREPARE THE VEHICLE
With the vehicle on a solid, level surface chock the front wheels. Remove the negative battery cable. Remove the jounce bumpers located under the frame rail. The jounce bumpers will not be re-used with this kit but the collar from the jounce bumper will be reused.
STEP 2 – INSTALL THE WORK-RITE & UPPER BRACKET TO THE FRAME
First, determine how many spacers will be needed between the upper bracket and the Work-Rite load assist and the bolt length needed, by using the chart in Figure "A". Measure the distance between the bottom of the upper bracket and the top of the jounce stop (most 4x4s) or axle (4x2).
NOTE: There should be 1/4" to 3/8" between the Work-Rite and the axle or jounce stop.
Insert this collar from the jounce bumper removal into the hole where it was originally. Put the upper bracket in place to hold the collar. Install the upper bracket onto the frame makeing sure that no part of the truck’s wiring will be pinched between the upper bracket and the frame.
Fasten the Work-Rite to the upper bracket and frame by inserting the hex bolt and flat washer thru the bottom of the Work-Rite, into the small hole at the top and thru the frame. Install the 3/8-16 flange lock nut and large flat washer onto the bolt finger tight.
See Figure "A".
If the upper bracket appears to be level when it rests against the inside of the frame, install the 3/4”x 3" bolt thru the frame rail (existing hole) and upper bracket. If the upper bracket does not set level, use the provided 3/4” flat washers, installed between the top bracket and the inside of the frame rail, to level the bracket.
If you have existing hitch hardware, the 3/4” bolt should be long enough to extend thru the upper bracket, truck frame and the hitch brackets (if present). Be sure to use at least one of the large diameter flat washers and the large diameter lock washer before putting the 3/4” nut onto the bolt.
After you install the upper bracket as level as possible, tighten the 3/8" bolt in the bottom of the frame, then tighten the 3/4" x 3" bolt thru the side of the frame.
STEP 3 – FINISH UP
Remove the wheel chocks and reconnect the battery cable. Now you're finished and ready to put your Work-Rite to use!
