INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Determine a suitable location meeting the installation clearances shown in Figure 1 below.
Local building codes may restrict the clearances shown below. If you are unsure if the clearances
are acceptable in your area, consult with local building officials to verify prior to proceeding with
installation.
Clearance to gas meter and electric meter shall be in accordance with local codes and the
requirements of the gas supplier or electric supplier.

The RGB-25U includes:
1 recess box

Note: The clearance to
combustibles of the water
heater/recess box assembly
are zero inches to all surfaces
of the recess box. A 24”
clearance to combustibles
and non-combustibles must
be maintained from the front
of the unit for servicing.

2. Drill 4 holes spaced out along the length of each side of the recess
box. The recess box is designed to be fitted between 2 studs and
secured through these holes. (Figure 2)
3. Bottom Hole Access: Use the provided template to drill the
appropriate holes for water, gas and electric access.
Side Hole Access: Identify the appropriate hole locations for water,
gas and electric. Watch for interference with the framing stud
before drill the holes.
4. All recess box penetrations must be sealed to prevent moisture
from entering the wall.
5. Apply a 3/8” bead of sealant along the back of the box flange.

6. Position and secure the recess box to the building structure with suitable screws (galvanized or
stainless steel) through the 8 holes in the sides. (Figure 2)
7. Follow the instruction for your water heater model. (The 2 screws are installed on the water heater.)

Install the bracket
as shown with the
higher keyhole on
the left. The 2
washers (Figure
2) at the back of
the recess box
should remain.

Install the bracket
as shown with the
lower keyhole on
the left. Remove
the 2 washers
(Figure 2) at the
back of the recess
box.
8. Install the mounting screw half way through the bracket attached
to the top of the recess box. (Figure 4)
9. Copy the water heater serial number and model number
from the data plate located on the left hand side of the
appliance onto the sticker which is on the inside of the
recess box cover. You will need to know this
information for any future warranty or service work.
10. Install the water heater in the recess box.
a. Lift the water heater into the recess box
and align the mounting screw with the
left keyhole on the top mounting
bracket. Tighten the screw

11. Remove the caps from the water heater and
install the valve kit.
12. Install the pipes through the access holes
made in step 3.
13. Connect gas, water and electric service to
the water heater. Note: A waterproof
electrical outlet can be fitted inside the
enclosure.
14. Seal all recess box penetrations with
sealant to prevent moisture from leaking out
of the recess box.
15. Install the locking bracket with 2 washers
and 2 lock nuts. (Figure 5)
16. On completion of work, check for gas and
water leaks.
17. Install front cover by inserting the top end
first.
