Safety
Caution: This charger is not for use by any person
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory or
medical capabilities or lack of experience or knowledge.
Risk of Explosion!
Only connect the battery leads when the mains supply
is disconnected
Never use the charger in a confined area without
adequate ventilation and air flow
Indoor use only – Keep away from liquids at all times
The supply cord cannot be replaced. If the cord is
damaged the charger should be scrapped

Operating conditions and guidelines
1. Ensure AC mains plug is not connected to
the AC mains supply
2. Connection
Attach the red (+) battery clip to the red (+)
terminal on the battery
Attach the black (-) battery clip to vehicle
chassis, away from the battery and fuel line
Polarity check – The polarity check LED
illuminates if the SmartCharger is connected
to the battery incorrectly. i.e. the red (+) clip
connected to the black (-) terminal on the battery.
ENSURE CONNECTION IS CORRECT AND THE
‘POLARITY CHECK’ LED IS NOT ILLUMINATED
3. Connect the AC mains plug to the AC mains
4. The SmartCharge defaults to the lowest
supply
charge setting:
RSCP12 – 2A
RSCP25 – 4A
5. The charge rate setting can be altered by
pressing the charge rate selection switch:
RSCP12 - 2A (slow charge)
- 6A (medium charge)
- 12A (fast charge)
RSCP25 - 4A (slow charge)
- 12A (medium charge)
- 25A (fast charge)
6. During the charging stage the ‘charging status’
LED flashes, with the battery fully charged the
charging status LED remains solid.
7. Pressing the LED display mode selection
switch toggles between:
a) Battery voltage % - displays the battery status
LOW – up to 13.5v
60 – 90% above 13.5v
FUL- Fully charged
b) Battery voltage
c) Charging current applied (in amps)
8. The charging process is complete when the ‘
charging status’ LED goes solid
9. To disconnect the SmartCharger from the
battery unplug the AC mains plug from the
AC mains supply
10. Disconnect the red (+) battery clip followed
by the black (-) battery clip.

Charging Process
The RSCP12 and RSC25 are 7 stage fully automatic
smart battery chargers. The SmartCharger
automatically adjusts the charge rate applied as the
battery charges. With the battery fully charged the
charging process stops, as the battery naturally
discharges further charge is applied until the battery is
again fully charged. This process is an ongoing process
to ensure a safe connection for an indefinite period.
The RSCP12 and RSCP25 include the following charge
stages:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
1. Desulphation
Pulse charges to break down the build of
lead sulphate crystals. Lead sulphate crystals
can occur when a lead acid battery has been
discharged or left unused for a period
of time
2. Soft start
A slow steady build up of the charging
process that limits the charging current
applied until the voltage is 12v
3. Bulk Charging
The main part of the charging process,
whereby 80% of the charge is applied
5
Protective Features
Over voltage protection – F02 error code is displayed if
the battery voltage is greater than 17.5v
4. Absorption
Charges the battery up to 99% capacity, has
a steady decline of the charging current
applied until the battery is charged
5. Battery test
The SmartCharge conducts an automatic
discharge test. If further charging is required
the battery recondition function is
automatically selected. If fully charged the
battery goes into the float stage
6. Battery Recondition *
An additional automatic charging stage to
recover deeply discharged batteries.
7. Float
The float stage maintains the battery at
100% charge without overcharging or
damaging the battery, allowing the charger
to be left connected to the battery for an
indefinite period.
* The battery reconditioning function is an automated
process that can recover batteries from a deeply
discharged state increasing performance and battery
life. This process can take up to 24 hours depending on
battery condition. If after the battery reconditioning
process the battery still does not recover the F05 error
code will be displayed. F05 indicates the battery is
faulty and should be replaced.
F01 is also displayed if the battery is faulty and should
be replaced
Temperature regulation – F04 error code is displayed if
the temperature exceeds 95º
