INSTALLATION
INTRODUCTION
The Digital Network Adapter (DNA200) interfaces an external RS232 or RS422 device to Ring Communications’ Crisis Alert System.
The DNA200 operates on +24 VDC. It can be powered from a fuse in the CB901 or RM5000 central exchange. The recommended cord is the BF640A to connect the DNA200 to the RJ45 network jack, KB171. Cords and
jacks must be ordered separately .

J1 - 8 pin (RJ45) Network connections:
Two modular jacks are provided at the rear of the DNA200. Use modular cables with straight through pin configuration only! An 8-pin (RJ45) modular jack (KB171) and cord (BF640A) are required for connection to the
network.
PIN# - DESIGNA TION 1 - No connection. 2 - +12 VDC power input 3 - Data + (positive) 4 - No connection. 5 - No connection. 6 - Data - (negative) 7 - -12 VDC power input 8 - External Alarm.
The maximum total network length is 7000 feet. A unshielded twisted pair cable should be used for the dat a pair (24 or 22 A WG). Connect the DA T A pair from the network to pins 3 and 6 of the RJ45 wall jack maint aining polarity of the pair . If a remote power source is being used, the negative side of the supply must be referenced to Earth Ground, as well as, the CB901 power supply .

J2 - 9 pin (DB9) RS232 signals :
The DNA200 has a RS232 serial port interface, J2, that can connect to a terminal, printer, or video switcher . Check your terminal, printer or video switcher manual for the correct RS232 connector type, input, output and handshaking signal connections.
The maximum length for a RS232 cable connecting the DNA200 and other equipment is 50 feet. A null-modem (LapLink) cable can be used to connect a DNA200 and a PC computer together if they are close
enough to each other. If you are going to make your own cable the following is a description of the pinout of the DB9 connector on the
DNA200.

J3 - 6 pin (RJ11) RS422 signals :

A two twisted pair installation utilizing RS422 signals can be used to connect two devices up to 7000 feet apart. A strap MUST be inst alled between RTS and CTS of J2 (DB9), in order to disable flow control for the RS422. To
do this, simply place a strap between pin 7 and pin 8 of J2. You could also solder this strap to a female DB9 connector with solder lugs on the rear, then insert it into the J2 connector.

Flow Control
Hardware flow control is used (RTS/CTS). The DNA200 will send data only if CTS is high (LED on) from the connected device. Parity , Data Bits and S top Bits are programmable (see configuration section).
Resetting Battery Ram
When the system is first installed the Battery Ram must be reset . Procedure:
1. Set all 8 dip switches in SW2 to OFF.
2. Push and release the Reset Switch (SW1).
3. Wait for the Master LED to start blinking (indicates reset complete)
4. Set Network Address.
5. Push and release the Reset Switch (SW1).

DIP switch SW2 is used to set the address of the DNA200. See SETTING NETWORK ADDRESS in the NETWORK manual for a full description for setting the addresses.

SW1 - Reset. Creates a local reset for this node only . SW2 - Node & Network Address SW3 - RS232 Baud Rate
L.E.D.’s (left side, network)
RUN -Indicates the local processor in the DNA200 is running. Will illuminate after power up or reset. MASTER - Will light steady if this node is the master on the network. There can only be one master on each
network. On power up, each device waits for a response from a master . If no response is received, then this device will take over as a master . Therefore, the first device powered up will be the master .
TX - Transmit data to the Network. Will flash when the DNA200 sends data out on the Network. If the
Master LED is on, the TX LED will flash constantly. When the Master LED is off, TX will only flash when transmitting to other devices.
RX - Receive data from the Network. Will flash when data is transmitted from another device to the
network. If the Master LED is on, the RX LED will flash when other devices respond to scanning from the Master. When the Master LED is of f, the RX LED will flash constantly.
L.E.D.’s (right side, RS232)
RTS - Request to send. Output, indicates the DNA200 is ready to receive data from the RS232 device. CTS - Clear to send. Input, illuminated when the RS232 device is ready to receive data from the DNA200. TX - Transmit data. Output to RS232 device. RX - Receive data. Input from RS232 device.

CONFIGURATION
Note! Not used with American Dynamics Alarm input.
One DNA100 and a PC is used for programming the DNA200. The DNA100 sets up a link between the PC and the DNA200. The Configuration is done from the PC and the information is stored in battery RAM in the DNA200. When the system is first installed the Battery RAM must be reset before the system is configured (see page 8).

CALL NUMBERS
All intercom stations are assigned call numbers in the Ring intercom central exchange.
The DNA200 Camera Switcher interface assigns Monitor Address and Camera Address to the intercom call numbers. This assignment is stored in the DNA200 and may bel listed with the command LCN from the PC connected to the DNA100. The call number may be 2,3 or 4 digit decimal. The camera and monitor address may be 1,2 3 or 4 digit HEX. The camera or monitor may be removed from a call number by entering 0 as the address.

BLACK CAMERA
When a call is cancelled on the intercom system a string is sent to the switch containing the monitor number and camera number 0. This will blank the monitor on some switchers. If a camera address is assigned to call number 9999 then this camera address will be used to blank the monitor.
LOGIN, LOGOUT
Call number 9998 is reserved for Login activation. Monitor = User Number, Camera = Password.

BACKUP
Backup generates all programming commands required to restore the configuration of the DNA200. These commands may be downloaded and stored in a file on the PC. This file can then be uploaded to restore the configuration of the DNA200

The Network Address of the DNA200 is programmed for each Masterst ation/DAD104 using a video monitor. This programming is done in the DXC901 or DXC910. No configuration is required for the sub stations with camera in the DXC901/DXC910. The monitor address and camera address for each call number is programmed in the DNA200 (see Configura­tion).

AMERICAN DYNAMICS ALARM INTERFACE
This video switcher interface is used for systems with single Monitor and multiple Cameras. It is
compatible with American Dynamics RS232 Alarm Input. The Network Address of the DNA200 is programmed for the Masterst ation/DAD104 using the video monitor. This
programming is done in the DXC901 or DXC910. No configuration is required for the sub stations with camera. No configuration is required for monitor and cameras in the DNA200. The substations call number is used for the alarm number in the protocol.

VICON VIDEO SWITCHER
This video switcher interface is used for systems with multiple Monitors and multiple Cameras.
The Masterstation/DAD104 with the video monitor must be configured in the DXC/DXA with the network address for the Video Switcher . The DNA200 must then be configured for all intercom stations with camera and/or monitor.

The DNA200 will retransmit a message if <SOH>?<CR> or <SOH>*<CR> is received instead of the expected <SOH>$<CR>. If no response is received within 2.5 seconds the message is also retransmitted. Maximum two retransmit for each message.

Message format from AutoPatch: Echo of all charcters received.
The DNA200 will wait for the echo T before sending more commands. If the T is not recived within 2.5 seconds the command is aborted and ASCII X is sent to the switcher .

No configuration is required for the sub stations with camera in the DXC901/DXC910. The camera address for each call number is programmed in the DNA200 (see Configuration). The camera address is a 4 digit number. The first 2 digits are used to define the multiplexer (01-16) and the last 2 digits are used to define the camera (01-16) connected to the multiplexer.
Example: Camera address 01 12 is programmed in configuration for one of the intercom call numbers. This camera is now assigned to multiplexer 1 input 12
COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL
The device receiving from the DNA200 is setup in the following matter:
The interface is using RS232 between the baud rates of 1200-19200 bps (see SETTING BAUD RATE/DEVICE
TYPE SELECT earlier in this chapter).
Data bits, stop bits and parity is programmable (see Configuration),
Hardware flow control (RTS/CTS).

This video switcher interface is used for systems with multiple Monitors and multiple Cameras.
The Network Address of the DNA200 is programmed for each Masterst ation/DAD104 using a video monitor. This programming is done in the DXC901, DXC910 or EX500. No configuration is required for the sub stations with camera in the DXC901/DXC910/EX500. The monitor address and camera address for each call number is programmed in the DNA200 (see Configura­tion).
