Rigel Systems QuikAdapt User Manual

QuikAdapt
Attaching Camera: Remove crossbar and attach camera to crossbar by screwing camera mount bolt into camera mount hole on bottom of camera, using supplied allen wrench, so the camera lens is in middle of crossbar. Reattach crossbar to slider upright using the crossbar thumb screws.
Attaching to Eyepiece: Loosen ey epiece thumbscrew until screw is flush with inside of eyepiece hole. Remove rubber guard from eyepiece, insert into eyepiece hole, and slide away from thumbscrew until groove on eyepiece fits over eyepiece flange on QuikAdapt. Tighten eyepiec e thumbscrew into groove on eyepiece.
Centering of Camera: Remove QuikAdapt+camera from eyepiece. Acquire and center bright star in eyepiece. Reattach QuikAdapt+camera, loosen slider thumb screws and move slider forwards/back until star is in center of camera viewfinder then tighten slider thumb screws. You may also loosen the camera mount bolt slightly using supplied allen wrentch to adjust camera left/right position on crossbar then retighten..
Adjust Eye relief to minimize vignetting: Loosen crossbar thumbscrews and raise /lower camera, retighten crossbar thumbscrews.

Using QuikAdapt for Eyepiece Projection with a DSLR
For DSLRs, prime focus astrophotography is the prefered method (see adapter below) but for planets and other small objects, especially with short focal length telescopes, the image may be too small to show much detail. Eyepiece projection with the camera lens removed fr om the DSLR provides a lot more magnification for small objects. SLR camera body is attached to the QuikAdapt using the tripod screw hole on the bottom of the camer a and the white nylon thumb screw (provided). The crossbar (see other side) is not needed and should be removed.
In eyepiece projection the telescope's objective lens or mirror creates a prime focus image just in front of the eyepiece. The eyepiece collects the light from the prime focus image and reimages (projects) it onto the sensor in the DSLR. The effective magnification boost (M) obtained by eyepiece projection is calculated from the focal length of the eyepiece lens (Fe) and the distance from the eyepiece lens to the SLR sensor (Ds) as
M = (Ds-Fe)/Fe
The smaller the focal length of the eyepiece (Fe) and/or the greater the distance between the eyepiece the SLR sensor (Ds) the greater the magnific ation boost from eyepiece projection. Ds can be roughly measured from where the ey epiece lens body joins it's eyepiece tube (the part of the eyepiece that slides into the telescope 1.25 or 2 inch draw tube) to the camera's sensor plane.
Prime Focus Astrophotography with
Optional QuikAdapt SLR Prime Focus Adapter
Attach SLR adapter to QuikAdapt instead of an eyepiece for prime focus astrophotography
using digital and film SLR cameras with camera lens removed. Fits 2" telescope eyepiece drawtubes. The prime focus method uses your telescope as a very long camera lens in place of the SLR lens. SLR camera body is attached to the QuikAdapt using the tripod screw hole on the bottom of the camera and the whit e nylon thumb screw (provided). The crossbar (see other side) is not needed and should be removed.
