73-87 Chevy Truck Installation Instructions
1. Raise and support truck at a safe, comfortable working height. Let the front suspension hang
freely
2. Remove coil spring, shock absorber, upper control arm, and lower control arm. Refer to factory
service manual for proper disassembly procedure.
3. Hold the upper plate to the cross
member as shown in the picture to the
left and clamp to frame. Using the
plate as a template drill 4 holes in the
cross member.
4. Apply thread sealant to the air fitting
and thread into the air spring.
Remove the upper plate from the frame
and place onto the studs on the top of
the air spring. The holes are lettered;
slide the plate to position C moving the
air spring to the front of the vehicle.
Secure with flat washers and nyloc
nuts. Route airline.
5. Attach the air spring assembly to
the frame using 3/8” x 1 ¼” bolts
supplied.
6. Bolt the new upper shock mount to
the frame using four 3/8” x 1 ¼” bolts,
Nylok nuts and flat washers. The tab
on the front of the bracket will slide into
the factory shock stud hole to index the
bracket. Drill the holes with a 3/8” bit.

7. Attach the shock to the upper mount
using the supplied hardware.
8. Slide the lower shock stud through
shock, then install the aluminum
spacer. The step on the spacer will
face the lower arm. Fasten the
assembly with the supplied nut.
Note: These Strong Arms are used on
trucks of model years 1963-1987.
Throughout these years there are 3
different ball joints used. Some are
very similar. Make sure you have to
the correct ball joint for the year spindle
you are using.
9. Bolt the lower Strong Arm to the
frame using the oem fasteners. Make
sure to align the protrusion in the frame
with the dimple in the cross shaft.
10. Fasten the air spring to the lower
control arm using a 3/8” x 3/4" bolt.
11. Reattach the spindle, tie rod, and
sway bar. Refer to factory service
manual for proper assembly
procedures. Our lower arm is
designed to be use with our MuscleBar
sway bar. Part # 11369100
12. Attach the upper Strong Arm to the
frame and spindle.
13. Double check airline, brake line,
shock and tire clearances. If needed,
we have supplied a bump stop that can
be used if the vehicle is to low. You
will need to make a bump stop spacer
to achieve proper height. It is the final
responsibility of the installer to
make sure nothing rubs on the air
spring. This is not a warrantable
situation.
14. Driving height on this air spring
should be approximately 5 ½” tall.

: If your tire hits the inner fender
well before the air spring bottoms out,
this bump stop must be installed.
15. The bump stop plate will bolt to the
outer two holes of the upper air spring
plate. It will hang over the front side of
the cross member.
16. The break line bracket may need
to be tweaked to clear the hose.
17. The rubber can be trimmed down
to get maximum drop.
