To prevent the dc power supply board failure on 220/230/240V machines, the software of the main
ROM has been changed (A0855114 → A0855154). Due to this modification the part number of the
main control board has been cha nged . Refe r to th e RTB-001 for th e deta il.

[Other software change]
(1) When F4 (8 1/2" x 13") size original is fed into the ARDF in APS mode , AP S do es not fu nct ion even
if F4 size paper is in the paper tray. This is because the paper size is det ect ed only by th e pa per
length, determining the F4 size paper as F (8" x 13") size paper.
To enable the APS function with F4 size paper, the soft ware has been changed so that an F4 size
signal from the ARDF is treated as an F size signal by th e copier CPU.
(2) When the LCT lift motor changes its rot at ing direct ion under paper end condition, the overcu rren t
protection circuit may generate an elect rical noise on the AGND line. If this e lect rical noise is
generated while the tray lift motor is rotating , IC1 19 on the main control bo ard might be damaged .
To prevent this, the software has been changed as follows:
a)The LCT lift motor will change its rotating direct ion with a short interval in-betwe en .
b)The LCT lift moto r will not rotat e while the tray lift motor is rot ating .

DETAILS OF MODIFICATION

When the main switch is turned on, is the LCT or the LCT & Paper Tray raise and lower under paper end
condition, the tray lift motor driver (IC119 on the main control board ) ma y be damag ed , cau sing SC41.
The rush current when th e tray lift motor changes its rotat ion and the switching current for th e op eration
panel’s LEDs may produce too high current to IC119. To prevent this, an elect rolylic cap acit or (100 µF,
50V) and a ceramic capacitor (0.1 µF, 50V) h ave been sold ered between CN501-1 (Vcc 2) and CN501-4
(CGND 2) in parallel on the operation panel board.
Refer to the M/B No. 11 as a relative modification.

To ensure the countermeasu re fo r t he dc powe r supp ly boa rd fa ilure on 220/230/240V machines, the
masked I/O ROM soldered on the main control board has be en modified. The software of the main
ROM (A0855154) remains as it is. Refer to th e RTB No. 007 for the detail.
The IC119 has also been chang ed from VIL0.4V to 1.5V and cap acit ors (C166, C167, C168) have
been added to increase the noise margin for prevent ion of SC41.

To prevent the bottom part of the duplex tra y from be ing def orme d due to heat fro m t he tray he at er
(refer to the MB No. 16), the up pe r t ray he at er an d its bra cket have been removed. The heat er (#

27) has been installed on th e 6t h mirror bracket (# 19) instead of the upp er tray heater. (Refer to
the RTB No. 002 for the detail.)
A mylar seal (# 28) has been added on the optics base plat e to cover th e hole fo r the heate r
harness. This modification has been applied to all the N440 series to standardize the parts.

If the exhaust blower motor is re-energized whe n it has nearly stop ped, there is a slight possibility th at it take s over 2
seconds for the motor to re-sta rt. This will cause SC63 (exhaust blower moto r error).
To eliminate this possibility, the inne r magn et align ment of the motor has been modified.

NOTE: The description of the old part was incorrect. It should not have been
