Wir gratulieren Ihnen zum Erwerb
Ihrer neuen Revox Lautsprecher
und danken Ihnen für das Ver­trauen, das Sie uns mit dem Kauf
dieses hochwertigen Produktes
entgegenbringen.

Ihre Revox-Lautsprecher für den
Außenbereich (ODS = Out Door
Speaker) wurden nach neuesten
elektroakustischen Erkenntnissen
entwickelt und mit großer Sorgfalt
gefertigt. Vor Inbetriebnahme
sollten Sie die folgenden Hinweise
beachten, damit sich die klang­lichen Qualitäten voll entfalten
können.

Auspacken

Bevor Sie mit der Montage
beginnen, überprüfen Sie bitte
den Inhalt des Versandkartons:

Standort

Die Membranen des ODS 80 sind
aus witterungsbeständigem
Aluminium gefertigt. Zudem ist
das Gehäuse spritzwasserdicht
aufgebaut und hält auch hohen
Temperaturschwankungen stand.

Damit Ihr ODS 80 eine möglichst
lange Lebensdauer erreicht, sollten
Sie folgende Dinge bei der Auswahl
des Standortes berücksichtigen.

Vermeiden Sie Standorte, bei
denen der Lautsprecher:

• über Stunden hinweg direktem
Sonnenlicht ausgesetzt ist.

• direkt dem Regen ausgesetzt ist

• sich eine Eisschicht auf dem

Lautsprecher bilden kann

Stellen Sie sicher, dass sich
im Bereich der Befestigungs­schrauben für die Montage­bügel keine Strom- und
Wasserleitungen befinden.
Ggf. sollte ein entsprechen­des Ortungsgerät Klarheit
schaffen.

Wir empfehlen, das Ver­packungsmaterial für einen
eventuell späteren Transport
aufzubewahren.

Lautsprecher ausrichten

Bevor Sie mit der Montage be­ginnen, hier noch ein paar Hin­weise zur Ausrichtung des Außen­lautsprechers. Der Lautsprecher
ist so konzipiert, dass die optimale
Wiedergabe erreicht wird, wenn
der Hochtöner sich über dem
Tieftöner befindet. Dies gilt auch,
wenn der Lautsprecher sich in
einer sehr hohen Einbauposition
unterhalb eines Vorsprungs oder
Daches befindet.

Bei einem Stereopaar müssen
beide Lautsprecher in gleicher
Weise ausgerichtet werden:

Ist eine vertikale Ausrichtung auf­grund der Gegebenheiten nicht
möglich, sollten die Lautsprecher
in der Horizontalen spiegelbildlich
ausgerichtet werden, sodass die
Hochtöner nach außen zeigen:

Optimal ist, wenn sich die Hoch­töner etwa auf Ohrhöhe befinden
bzw. der Hochtöner auf Kopfhöhe
ausgerichtet ist.
Bei hohen Einbaupositionen em­pfiehlt es sich daher der Laut­sprecher vertikal auszurichten und
den Lautsprecher wie in Abb. 3 zu
sehen ist, nach unten abstrahlen zu
lassen.

Der Abstand zwischen den beiden
Lautsprechern hängt von dem Ab­stand zum Hörer ab. Als allgemeine
Regel gilt, dass der Abstand zum
Hörplatz mindestens 2 m betragen
sollte. Der Abstand zwischen den
Lautsprechern sollte nicht größer
sein als der Abstand zum Hörplatz.

Wichtig

Unabhängig davon, wie
Sie die Lautsprecher

montieren bzw. auf­stellen, stellen sie auf jeden Fall
sicher, dass die Lautsprecher nicht
herunterfallen und jemanden ver­letzen können.

Montagevorbereitung

Kabellänge und Querschnitt

Nachdem Sie den Standort für die
Lautsprecher bestimmt haben,
wird zuerst die Lautsprecher­leitung vom Verstärker zum Laut­sprecher verlegt.

Alle Revox-Lautsprecher weisen
einen ausgeglichenen elektri­schen Impedanz- und Phasenver­lauf auf und stellen für den Ver­stärker eine unkritische Last dar.
Um die Leitungs- und Hochton­verluste jedoch möglichst gering
zu halten, empfehlen wir, die
Kabelquerschnitte wie folgt zu
dimensionieren und in jedem Fall
2-adrige Litzen zu verwenden.

bis 15 m: Ø 1.50 mm
bis 30 m: Ø 2.50 mm
über 30 m: Ø 4.00 mm

Kabelaustritt

Für die Anschlüsse sollten am
Austrittsende der Lautsprecher­leitung mindestens 150 mm über­stehen.

Kabelenden schützen

Die abisolierten Kabelenden der
Lautsprecherkabel werden durch
die Witterung angegriffen bzw.
durch den Kontakt mit Luft oxidiert.
Dies gilt besonders, wenn die
Lautsprecher salzhaltiger Luft
ausgesetzt sind.
Sie können die abisolierten Enden
durch ein Silikon-Abdichtungs­material schützen, erhältlich in
Elektronik-Fachgeschäften. Wenn
Sie Abdichtungsmaterial verwen­den, tragen Sie es erst auf, nach­dem Sie die Kabel angeschlossen
und die Anschlussklemmen fest
aufgeschraubt haben. Überprüfen
Sie die Anschlüsse einmal pro
Jahr.

Der ODS 80 besteht aus einem
Montagebügel und dem eigent­lichen Lautsprecher.

Schritt 1 /

Führen Sie Lautsprecherkabel
durch die mittlere Durchgangs­öffnung und richten Sie die Mon­tagebügel mit Hilfe einer Wasser­waage senkrecht bzw. waagrecht
aus. Markieren Sie nun mit einem
Bleistift die Schraubenposition in
den Langlöchern - siehe Abb. 4 + 5

a) Installation auf Holzwand:
weiter mit Schritt 3

b) Installation auf Betonwand:

- Vorbohren für die Dübellöcher
an den zuvor markierten Stellen
mit:
Ø = 6 mm
L = 40mm

- Dübel (6 x 30) einsetzen

mittlere Öffnung ziehen

- Montagebügel mit Unterlags­scheibe und Edelstahlschraube

(4 x 40 mm) festschrauben –
Torx TX20

Führen Sie den Lautsprecher, wie
in Abbildung 6 zu sehen, in den
Haltebügel ein und befestigen Sie
diesen, indem Sie die zwei
Drehknebeln an beiden Seiten
eindrehen.

Schritt 5 / 6

Drehen Sie den Lautsprecher so­weit zur Seite, dass die Anschluss­klemmen für das Lautsprecher­kabel gut zugänglich sind. Nun
werden die Kabelenden ca. 15
mm abisoliert und mit den Pol­klemmen verbunden:

 Pluspol mit der roten Laut-

sprecherklemme verbinden

 Minuspol mit der schwarzen

Lautsprecherklemme ver­binden

Vor dem Herstellen der
Lautsprecherverbindungen
zu Ihrer HiFi-Anlage (Voll­verstärker, Receiver, Endstufe etc.)
sollten Sie diese in jedem Fall vom
Netz trennen.

Schritt 6 /

Im letzten Schritt werden die
Lautsprecher ausgerichtet. Die
Ausrichtung sollte dabei derart
erfolgen, dass beide Lautsprecher
auf die Hörposition ausgerichtet
sind.
Bei einem großen Beschallungs­bereich kann durch eine Hörprobe
der optimale Abstrahlwinkel er­mittelt werden. Durch das breit­bandige und homogene Abstrahl­verhalten des ODS 80 können
auch große Bereiche problemlos
beschallt werden.

Hinweis: Lautsprecherverpolung

Falls ein oder sogar mehrere Laut­sprecher verpolt angeschlossen
wurden, stellt sich eine deutlich
reduzierte Basswiedergabe ein zu­sammen mit einem ungenauen
und diffusen Klangbild.

Lautsprecher farblich
anpassen

Wenn Sie die Lautsprecher farb­lich an ihr Umfeld anpassen
möchten, sind folgende Punkte zu
beachten:

a)
Entfernen Sie das Lautsprecher­gitter vorsichtig vom Lautsprecher­gehäuse mit Hilfe einer Stechaale
o.ä. Die Gitter sind nicht mit dem
Gehäuse verklebt, sondern nur
eingepresst.

b)
Decken Sie die Lautsprecherfront
mit Hilfe von Malerklebeband und
Karton ab und stellen Sie sicher,
dass kein Sprühnebel beim Lackie­ren seitlich in den Schallwand ein­dringen kann.

c)
Neben der Schallwand müssen
auch die Lautsprecherklemmen für
die Lackierung abgedichtet werden,
damit keine Übergangswiderstände
entstehen können.

Technische Hinweise

Belastbarkeit

Die Angabe der Belastbarkeit auf
dem Typenschild Ihrer Revox­Lautsprecher beziehen sich auf
linear eingestellte Klangregler am
Verstärker. Durch eine Kurz-
zeitüberlastung nehmen Ihre
Revox-Lautsprecher keinen
Schaden. Sollten die Laut­sprecherchassis durch eine
längere Überlastung beschädigt
worden sein, so ist dies von dem
zuständigen Servicetechniker
zweifelsfrei feststellbar. Eine
Garantieleistung durch Revox ist
dann nicht gegeben.

Schutzschaltung

Die Außenlautsprecher besitzen für
den Hoch- und Tieftonlautsprecher
eine separate Schutzschaltung, die
bei Überlast den Lautsprecher im
Pegel absenkt und nach einer
gewissen Zeit (abhängig von der
Höhe der Überlastung) wieder
selbstständig aktiviert.

Dear Music Fan,

Congratulations on your new
Revox speakers. We are grateful
for the trust that you have shown
in our company through your
choice of these high quality
products.
Your Revox outdoor speakers
ODS have been developed in line
with the latest in electro-acoustic
technology and have been
produced to the highest quality.
Before you start to use them, we
would recommend that you read
this manual thoroughly so that you
will be able to get the best sound
results.

Unpacking

Before you start installation,
please check that you have all the
parts:

ODS 80 pack contains:

2 x Outdoor speakers
2 x Metal mounting brackets
1 x Accessories pack
1 x Manual

We recommend that you keep the
packaging in case you should
need it to transport the speaker at
a later stage.

Location

The ODS 80 membranes are
made of weather-resistant
aluminium. Additionally, the
housing is sealed against water
splashes and can also cope with
high temperature fluctuations.

You should take the following
points into consideration when
selecting the location, in order to
achieve the longest possible
working life for your ODS 80.

Avoiding choosing locations
where:

• the speaker is exposed to
direct sunlight for hours at a
time

• the speaker is exposed to
direct rain

• a layer of ice can build up on
the speaker

Ensure that there are no
cables or water pipes in the
area of the fixing screws. If
possible, we recommend
using a corresponding
locating device.

Lining the speakers up

Here are a couple of tips for you
about lining the speakers up,
before you start the installation.
The speaker is designed such that
the best reproduction is achieved
when the tweeter is located above
the woofer. This is also true if the
speaker is mounted very high up,
underneath a roof overhang.

Both speakers must be lined up
the same way when they are
installed as a stereo pair.

If circumstances do not permit the
speakers to be installed vertically,
they should be installed horizontally
as a mirror image of each other,
with the tweeters towards the
outside:

The best results are achieved if the
tweeters are at about ear level or
when the tweeter is directed at
head height.
For that reason, if a high mounting
position is selected, we recommend
lining the speaker up vertically and
then tilting it downwards, as shown
in Fig. 3.

The distance between the speakers
is dependent on the distance from
the listener. As a general rule of
thumb, the distance to the listening
position should be at least 2 m. The
distance between the speakers
should not be greater than the
distance to the listening position.

Important

Irrespective of how you

install or position the
speakers, you must always ensure
that they cannot fall down and
injure someone.

Installation preparation

Cable lengths and profile

Once you have decided on where
the speakers are going to be
located, the first thing to do is to
lay the cabling from the amplifier
to the speaker.

Cable lengths and diameters

Revox speakers show a balanced
electrical impedance and phase
response, which means that they
represent an uncritical load for the
output amplifier and the speaker
cable. In order to keep the cabling
and high frequency losses to a
minimum, we recommend that
you use cables with the following
diameter and always to use 2­core cables.

Up to 15 m: Ø 1.50 mm
Up to 30 m: Ø 2.50 mm
Over 30 m: Ø 4.00 mm

Cable exit point

At least 150 mm should protrude
beyond the point where the cable
exits, to allow for the connections.

Protecting the cable ends

The stripped ends of the cable will
be subject to attacks from the
weather and/or they are at risk of
oxidisation through contact with
the air. This is particularly the
case if the speakers are exposed
to salty air.
You can protect the stripped ends
with a silicon sealing material,
obtainable from any good,
specialist electronics retailer. If
your are going to apply sealing
material, you should only do this
once you have connected the
cable and the connecting strips
are firmly screwed into place.
Check the connections annually.

General

The ODS 80 consists of a
mounting bracket and the actual
speaker.

The first part of the installation
instruction (steps 1 - 3), desctibes
fixing the bracket to the wall. The
second part (steps 4 - 6), covers
the installation and alignment of
the speaker.

The individual detailed installation
steps are on the following pages.

Step 1 /

Feed the speaker cable through
the middle opening and line the
mounting bracket up horizontally
or vertically, using a spirit level.
Now mark the position of the screws
in the slots with a pencil (see Figs
4 + 5).

a) Installation on a cavity wall:
continue with Step 3

b) Installation on a concrete wall:
Pre-drill holes for the rawlplugs

at the marked positions with:
Ø = 6 mm
L = 40 mm

- Insert rawlplugs (6 x 30)

- Pull the speaker cable through
the middle opening

- Screw the mounting bracket
firmly into position using
washers and stainless steel
screws (4 x 40 mm) Torx TX20

Step 4 / 6
Guide the speaker into the
bracket, as shown in Figure 6 and
fix it in place, by turning the two
rotary knobs on both sides.

Step 5 / 6
Turn the speaker far enough to
one side so that the connecting
terminal for the speaker cable is
easy to access. Now strip about
15 mm of the insulation off the
end of the cables and connect
them to pin connectors.

Protect the ends of the cables - see
Page 6.

PLEASE NOTE

Before connecting the
speakers to your hi-fi
system (amplifier, receiver, power
amplifier etc.), make sure this has
been fully unplugged from the
mains.

Step 6 /

The speakers are lined up in the
last step. This should be done
such that both speakers are
directed towards the listening
position.
If it is a big listening area, the best
angle can be ascertained by
carrying out some sound tests.
Because of the broadband and
homogeneous emission
characteristics of the ODS 80, it is
no problem providing sound for
large areas.

Note: Incorrect speaker polarity

If one or more speakers are
connected with the wrong polarity,
there is a significant reduction in
the bass reproduction and the
sound portrait is uneven and
diffused.

Modifying the colour
of the speakers

The following points should be
noted if you want to modify the
colour of your speakers so that
they fit better into their environment:

a)
Remove the speaker grille carefully
from the speaker housing using a
bradawl, or similar. The grilles are
not glued to the housing; they are
just pressed on to it.

b)
Cover the front of the speaker with
cardboard held in place with
masking tape and ensure that no
spray mist can get in at the side of
the baffle during painting.

c)
As well as covering the baffle, the
speaker connecting terminals
should be covered during painting
to avoid creating any transfer
resistances.

Technical details

Load capacity

The power capacity details given
on the Revox rating plate refer to
a linearly set sound controller at
the amplifier.
A short-term overload will not
damage your Revox speakers. If
the chassis should be damaged
by a long-term overload, this will
be clearly identifiable for a service
technician. In this case, you are
no longer covered by your Revox
guarantee.

Protective circuit

The outdoor speaker has a
separate protective circuit for the
woofer and tweeter, which reduces
the level of the speaker in the case
of an overload and reactivates it
automatically after a certain time.
The length of time is dependant on
the extend of the overload.

Please act according to your local rules and do not dispose your old
products with your normal household waste. The correct disposal of
