80 A current capable
To ensure that circuit breaker operation is guaranteed under the most onerous condi tions placed on the substation tripping s upply, circuit breaker trip coils are specified to work with a minimum tripping voltage much below the nominal battery voltage. The minimum trip voltage test is described in a number of int ernational and national standards such as I EC 56, ANSI C37.09 etc.
Traditionally, this test was performed by tapping the main t ripping battery. This method however should not be utilized considerable risk to testing personnel, battery and breaker being tested.
General-purpose DC sources as well as variac-based instruments are also unsuitable due to their inability to maintain their output voltage precisely regulated at the high peak currents drawn by trip coils.
The TCT2 is essentially a very high-speed electronic voltage regulator which will accurately maintai n the output voltage c onstant while very high peak currents are drawn, for a period long enough to allow the operation of the trip coil. An independent regulation fail detection circuit ens ures t hat t he precis e level of tes t volt age during the entire test is always known and guaranteed constant.
The automatic trip-coil burnout protection feature protects the breaker trip coil from thermal damage which can occur during breaker malfunction. The integrated general-purpose Start/Stop timer can be used to dis pl ay the breaker operating times.
