BTS Battery Discharge Test Set

The BTS is an automatic battery discharge test set designed to enable unattended discharge tests to be performed on standby batteries. It is widely acknowledged that a capacity test as performed by a controlled const ant c urrent dis charge gives the best indication as to the health of a standby battery and its ability to perform to its spec i fication.

Tests all batteries from 24 to 240 V

Regulated constant current during entire test
Up to 100 A discharge current
Performs tests from 3 mins to 10 hours
Unattended operation
Non-volatile data logging voltmeter
10 second data record rate
Programmable alarm outputs
The BTS is essentially a microprocessor controlled solid-state electronic load bank together with a non-volatile data-logging voltmeter. The dis charge current is continually monitored and the load bank automatical ly adjusted so as to maint ain the discharge current constant.
A test is performed by entering on a PC the discharge current, discharge time, m inimum allowable batt ery voltage and the voltage measurement record rate. Alarm settings c an also be entered, the alarm outputs being connected into the local alarm scheme to notify the operator if attendanc e is necessary. Once the test has been initiated by the PC, the PC can be disconnected and the discharge unit will perform t he t est with no operator involvement. As the battery voltage falls during the discharge the unit adjust s the load on the battery such that the di scharge current is maintained constant. The disc harge continues until t he time lim it is reached or the battery voltage drops below that previously entered as the minimum. When the test has f inished the PC can be reconnected and the results, stored during the test in the discharge unit, downloaded to the PC for subsequent analysi s .
Compliance with quality management systems like ISO9000 requires documentary evidence that all essential plant and equipment (i.e. batt eries) are performing to specific ation. The BTS can facilitate this process by generating the required documentation. The simple-to-use results arc hiving software supplied with the BTS permits even technician-level staff to perform and automatically document a battery dis c harge test.
