Introduction
Thank you for purchasing your REED R6018 Dual Moisture Meter. Please read
the following instructions carefully before using your instrument. By following
the steps outlined in this manual your meter will provide years of reliable service.
Product Quality
This product has been manufactured in an ISO 9001 facility and has been
calibrated during the manufacturing process to meet stated
product specications.
Safety
• Never attempt to repair or modify your instrument. Dismantling your product,
other than for the purpose of replacing batteries, may cause damage that
will not be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. Servicing should only
be provided by an authorized service center.
• The electrode measurement pins on this instrument are sharp. It is strongly
recommended to cover the pins with the included protective cap when
not in use.

Operating Instructions
1. To use the pin mode, carefully remove the protective cap to expose the
contact pins.
2. Turn the instrument ON by pressing the POWER button. If the instrument

does not power on, verify if battery reads to be replaced.
3. Press the MODE button to cycle through the four material testing modes;
Wood - Pin mode
Building Materials - Pin mode
Wood - Pinless mode (icon blinking)
Building Materials - Pinless mode (icon blinking)
4. Once the desired mode has been selected follow the next steps;
Pin Mode - Push the electrode pins into the material under test.
Pinless Mode - When powered ON, rst hold the instrument in open air
and ensure the Pinless sensor is clear of objects. Next, select the desired
pinless material mode. Once this is selected the meter will automatically
zero-calibrate and the instrument is ready to take a pinless (non- invasive)
measurement of the surface under test.
5. Press and hold the POWER button to switch off the instrument.

Display Hold
Press the DISPLAY HOLD button when the instrument is powered on to freeze
the displayed reading. Press the button again to resume normal operation.
Auto Power-Off
As a default the instrument will automatically turn off after 2 minutes of inactivity.

Turning Beeper ON/OFF
The instrument beeper is set to ON by default. To switch the beeper OFF,
press and hold the DISPLAY HOLD/ON/OFF BEEPER button until the icon
disappears. Press the button again to reactivate the beeper.
Pin Mode Self-Test
Turn the instrument on and set the Mode to the desired Pin mode (Wood
or Building Materials). Remove the protective cap and put the testing
pins through the the holes at the top of the Protective cap. If the meter is
functioning properly you should see the following measurement displayed on
the LCD screen;
• Wood Mode: 17 to 19%
• Building Materials Mode: 15.5 to 17.5%
In the case that the instrument measures outside of these ranges try replacing
the battery. If the instrument continues to read outside the set self-test range
the instrument should be returned for service.
Battery Replacement
1. When the LCD display battery icon appears empty or is ashing, replace
the battery.
2. Open the Battery Cover on the back of the meter & remove the battery.
3. Replace the 9V battery, check that the polarization is correct, and reinstall
the cover.
Permanent Damage to the circuit can result from incorrect installation.

REED Instruments guarantees this instrument to be free of defects in
material or workmanship for a period of one (1) year from date of shipment.
During the warranty period, REED Instruments will repair or replace, at no
charge, products or parts of a product that proves to be defective because
of improper material or workmanship, under normal use and maintenance.
REED Instruments total liability is limited to repair or replacement of the
product. REED Instruments shall not be liable for damages to goods, property,
or persons due to improper use or through attempts to utilize the instrument
