1 Overview
Reach Multimedia Recording & Streaming System—is a new generation of multimedia recording
and streaming system developed by Shenzhen Reach IT Co., Ltd. It is an IP-based system which
can do the recording, live streaming and playing on demand of the video, audio and computer
screen content through network simultaneously. The user can receive the media via IP network.
Contrasting to the traditional system, the screen content is added to the media on the basis of video
and audio.

2 Hardware Installation
2.1 Panel and Port
Front Panel of Server
2.1.1 LED indicator of Server

2.1.2 Rear Panel
There are 3 interfaces at the rear panel: power plug, LAN interface and WAN interface. Insert the power cable into the Power connector on the rear panel of the server unit and insert the Power cable into the power source socket. Connect LAN cable to LAN port on the rear panel of the server unit.

2.2 AV Encoder (DSS-ENC-110)
Dimension: Length x Depth x High=240mm x 169mm x 45mm
The above figure shows all ports and connection methods of the coder. Ports are selectively to be connected based on requirements while installation (but Power, LAN, VIDEO IN, AUDIO IN must be connected).

make sure it’s the model you have.

2.4 HD Encoder(DSS-ENC-1200)
Dimension: Length x Depth x High=350mm x 219mm x 44.5mm
NOTICE: HD Encoder is an optional accessory. Please make sure
whether your system includes this devices before unpacking.
Ports at the rear panel of HD Encoder include Power input, LAN interface, DVI-I input interface for HD video or VGA signal, HD-SDI input interface, 15 pins D-SUB VGA output interface, MIC input interface and tow-channel stereo for audio, two-channel stereo output and RS232 interface.

2.5 Environment for software and hardware installation
Make sure that the server is on a stable flat surface
Make sure the IP network connection is available. 100Mbps network
or above is recommended
Please install the Server according to the physical and electrical environment equipment mentioned.
Recommended configuration of the PC for the installation of RecPlayer:
CPU: Dual Core Processor 2.2Ghz or above
DISPLAY:1024*768 resolution or above
Video card: 512M Independent graphics or above
Memory: 1G or above
HDD: 1GB or above
OS: Win2000/XP/Win 7
3 System Configuration
3.1 Searching for the IP address of server and encoders
Please do as the following steps to get the initial IP address of server and encoder:
Find DSSIpViewer.exe at the CD shipped with the server and double click the file to run the tool.
Choose the device you want to search for and then click search button
Find the devices and their IP address at the devices list table.
Notice:
The PC that runs DSSIpViewer must be at the same physical network

with server and encoder. If there is router between the PC and server or encoder, or they are at deferent VLAN, server and encoder can not be detected. You can also get IP address via LCD display at the front panel of the equipments.
3.2 IP configuration of server
After you got IP address of DSS-R server via DSSIpViewer, you can change IP address of the server through IE browser.
Connect your PC to LAN or WAN interface of the server with a LAN cable.
Configure your PC’s IP address to the same segment with DSS-R server
Enter the IP address of server at the address field of IE browser and press “Enter”.
Use the user name of “admin” and password of “admin” to log in the system
Go to Senior ManagementÆSystem SetÆIP Address Modification
to set the IP address, sub mask and gateway of the server. Click save button and then the server will reset automatically.
3.3 Initial configuration of DSS-ENC 110
The default IP address of ENC 110 from factory is random and you can see the IP address on the LCD of font panel (assume IP is 192.168.3.93 sub mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.3.1. Set your PC’s IP address to 192.168.3.110, sub mask 255.255.255.0). You can go to the webpage of the encoder to set the IP address you need. For explanation convenient, assume the IP you want to set as 192.168.1.101, sub mask
255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.1.1.
Check connection. Go to your PC Start ->Run->cmd, input Ping
192.168.3.92. If you get the replays, means the connection is ok. If not,
please check the cable connection and PC’s IP.

Run IE, type in 192.168.3.92 and press “Enter”, then you can see the log in interface;
Input User: admin and Password: admin, click “Login”.

You can go to the webpage of the encoder to set the IP address you need. For explanation convenient, assume the IP you want to set as 192.168.1.103, sub mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.1.1.
Check connection. Go to your PC Start ->Run->cmd, input Ping
192.168.4.57. If you get the replays, means the connection is ok. If not,
please check the cable connection and PC’s IP.
Run IE, type in 192.168.4.57 and press “Enter”, then you can see the log in interface;

4 Configuration guide of the server
4.1 System login interface:
Open the browser, type in the IP address of the record & streaming server in the address field, and
press the Enter to show the following interface, which indicates the start of the Multimedia Record &
Streaming Server.
Enter username and password to their box and click Login button to enter system manage
interface.
Note: 1. Default User name and Password for administrator are both “admin”.
2. Only one administrator and operator can login into the system at the same time. The same
guest username and normal username can be used by multi users simultaneously.

4.2 Search and change IP address of the server.
You can use the tool of DSSIPViewer that we provide to search for and change IP address of the
server. The tool can be found at the DISK that shipped with the devices. Just navigate to the directory that the tool program is stored and double click the icon to run the program. Click Search
button to search for the IP address of the server.
About the searching result:
Devices list: All the detected servers are listed here.
LAN Interface: The network configured information of the LAN port, includes IP address, mask and
the gateway. Note: if the cable is disconnected the IP address box will display as 0.0.0.0.
WAN Interface: The network configured information of the WAN port, includes IP address, mask

and the gateway. Note: if the cable is disconnected the IP address box will display as
0.0.0.0.

Note:
(1) Please make sure the PC running DSSIpViewer.exe is at the same streaming network with
the server and encoders (can be in different IP address segment).
(2) If they are at different VLAN or there are lay3 devices like router, lay3 switcher or a special
firewall between them, the servers and encoders can not be detected by DSSIpViewer.
(3) If the IP address display at the LCD is not the same as the new one, please reboot the
server
You can also get IP address through LCD control panel by the following steps. Select
Query---Query IP Address at the LCD display of the front control panel. You can see the IP
address and mask of the server. Enter the IP address to the address field of your browser and
press “Enter”. (Be sure the IP communication of your PC and the server is OK). You will see the
login interface. Both the username and password are needed to enter the configuration interface. After you pass the authentication, navigate to System Maintenance page and change the IP address, mask and gateway, then click Save button. The system will reset automatically.

Note:
(1) As you change the IP address, make sure there’s no recording task, otherwise the recording will
be stopped.
(2) Be sure the IP address of server do not conflict with the other devices
(3) If use LAN and WAN port together, please be sure IP address of both are correct.
(3) Be sure the configuration of the gateway is right
4.3 Logout/Re-Login
Logout: After log on the server, click [Logout] to logout the management page.
Re-Login: Click [Re-Login] to login as another user.
4.4 Plug-in Management
4.4.1 Plug-in download
Receive live streaming and play on demand with PC, you need to install ActviverX from first. Go
to live streaming and VOD page, you will see a pop-out from the IE browser.

package version, maximum unicast, maximum vod, and maximum meeting rooms, hard disk space,
and free hard disk space. Work information.
4.5 Start

4.5.2 Meeting Room
Click [+New Meeting Room],
[Room Set]: View preset meeting rooms; [In Use]: View meeting rooms witch are using; [Meeting Room]: Name of the meeting room; [Encoder]: Select the encoder you set in Encoder-Management
Note: The system only capture audio signal from [Encoder1]. If there is no audio signal input to
[Encoder1], the streaming and files recorded are without sound.
[Reconnect]: Set reconnect times of connection between server and encoders (set
times/unlimited times/disable)

Click [Room Set], view preset meeting rooms:
[Connect]: Connect this meeting room
[Modify]: Change the settings of this meeting room
Note: Click “×” in front of meeting room in [Room Set] can delete the meeting room.
Click [In Use] after connect the meeting room. View the meeting rooms already connected.
[Disconnect]: Disconnect this meeting room;
[Preview]: Pop-out RecPlayer and preview the signals (need install RecPlayer first)
[Detail]: View and modify settings of encoders:

Settings includes encoder type, IP address, bit rate and audio parameters.
[Record]: Start recording task as default settings and view recording task information. (The file will
be named follow the meeting room name and current time, need to stop recording manually.)
Note: Recording task can be paused/continue, stop, after started.
[Advanced]: Set recording task parameter manually:

Settings include file name, store, file type, file description, recording content, authority, priority,
homonymy, recording task start and finish time.
Note: Advanced recording task can be paused/continue, stop, in recording task list, after started.
[Streaming]: Control live streaming function with unicast and multicast for this meeting room:
Unicast Control: Choose the content for live streaming; Turn on or turn off the unicast
(Clients receive live streaming with PC and HD Decoder need to turn on this function; PC need
install RecPlayer first.);
Multicast Control: Set multicast IP address, port and content for streaming; Turn on or turn off
multicast. (PC need install RecPlayer first.)

File Searching: Search as file name, record time range, file size range;
Pages: Click “PrePage/NextPage” or type in page number to show files;
Fold/Unfold: Click “-/+” to fold/unfold files belong to this type;
Reset: Zero clearing for VOD times;
VOD: Play on demand recorded files;
Download: Download files to the client’s local PC;
Modify: Modify file name, file type, and remark information;
Delete: Delete selected files.

4.6.1 Time Sync/Reboot
Click [Configuration] -> [Time Sync/Reboot]:
[Synchronize]: To synchronize the server time and time on client’s PC;
[Restart Server]: To remotely restart server (the system will automatically stop the recording if
there is on-going recording task).
4.6.2 System Set
Click [Configuration] -> [System Set]:

[Upgrade System]: Upgrade server software version;
[Language]: Choose system language;
[Record File Max-Length]: Split the recording file according to set size;
[IP Address Modification]: Modify the IP address, subnet mask and gateway of the network
port of server.
Note: The server will restart automatically after IP address, subnet mask and gateway are
modified.
4.6.3 Notice
Click [Configuration] -> [Notice]:
Enter the title and content of the notice in the above dialog box and then click [Save] button.
The non-administrator user will find the latest announcement title after re-log on the system or
refresh the page and lick the title can view the detailed notice.

4.6.4 User Groups
Click [Configuration] -> [Add new group]:
[Group Name]: Name of the new user group;
[Type]: Type of new group. Common users, Guest users, Operators and Administrators are
available groups for selection;
[Live Streaming Authority]: Set the authority of receiving unicast and broadcast for common
group and guest group;
[Remark]: Set remarks for new group.
Information for added group can be find under the [User Groups] once finished adding. The
following figure will appear:
Click Group Name / Type, user group list can be ordered according to Group Name / Type.
[Modify]: To modify information for added group.
Click [Modify] button:

Modify the user group’s name, type and remarks, and can add users to this group as well. For
common user group and guest group, live streaming authority can be modified as well.
[Delete]Delete this group;
[Authority]: Set VOD and downloaded files for this group. Click [Authority] button, the following
figure will appear:

4.6.5 Users
Click [Configuration] -> [Users] -> Add new user:

[User name]: Name for new user.
[Password]: Password for new user.
[Confirm Password]: Password confirmation for new user (it must be the same as the
password to ensure successful registration).
[Type]: Type of new user. Common user, Guest user, Operator and Administrator are available
for selection.
[Live Streaming Authority]: If the new added user is a common user or guest user, the live
streaming authority of unicast and multicast can be selected; the administrator and operator have all
authorities by default, which can not be changed.
[Channel Authority]: The conference room authority to receive unicast and multicast for the
new user. (Note: If the user has authority of unicast or multicast already, but doesn’t have
corresponding conference room authority, he can’t receive unicast or broadcast of this conference
room.)
[Expire Time]: Set the life circle for the user. The user can not log on the system once it
reaches the set time;
Information for added users can be found under the User management once finished adding.
The following figure will appear:
Click user name / group / type, the users list can be ordered according to user name / group /
type.
[Modify]: Modify information for added group;

[Delete]: Delete corresponding user;
[Authority]: Set VOD and downloaded files for the user (this function is available for Common
user only).
4.6.6 Log
Click [Configuration] -> [Log]:
It shows the current logs of the system, and can inquiry and delete according to user name,
logs type and logs time range.
4.6.7 Finished Recording
Click [Configuration] -> [Finished Recording],
Logs information for recording task can be reviewed and inquired according to File Name and
Recording Status.

4.6.8 Other
Click [configuration] -> [Other]:
[Session Time Control]: Set session time for administrator page and other user page (users
must re-log on the system if there is no operation during session time); there is no limitation for
session time if the input number is equal to -1;
[Register Management]: Set to allow users to register or modify password by themselves
and the following figure will appear after they registered by themselves:
Users can register by themselves by clicking [Register] and then log on the system with
registered account and password.
[Download/Restore (Database)]: Export current system data and save them on local
hardware or import backup data to recover system data.

4.7 LCD Operation Guide
4.7.1 Alternant message display mode
After power on, the device will display “Starting…” before get the device type, then display
“DSS-R-XX” and so on after get. The device will enter into alternant display operation mode 20
seconds later.
The system will alternately display the following messages unless the buttons are artificially
operated.
Device type, e.g. “DSS-R-XX, 2006-9-7 11:34:24” etc.
Recording status, e.g. “recording…00: 45: 34”, “Not Recording…”etc.
Unicasting status, e.g. “Unicasting Audio\Video\Data…01: 23: 22”, “Not Unicasting” etc.
Broadcasting status, e.g. “Broadcasting Audio\Video\Data…”01: 22: 11”, “Not Unicasting” etc.
Device working status, e.g. “Hard Disk 75% free, CPU Usage 80%...” etc.
The message display will stop and enter into menu operation mode if there is any button
operation. The system will automatically display the device status alternately if there is no operation
for 10 seconds.
The user can choose “up”, “down”, “confirm” and “cancel” to operate the device. The system will
display the function menu options as shown below, please refer to the following section for detailed
instructions.
4.7.2 Query
1. Query IP: The device to query the IP address of the server LAN and WAN. It will display
0.0.0.0 when it is not connected to the network cable.
2.Query Coder: Query the IP address of the audio encoder and data encoder currently
connected to the server.
3. Query Ver: Query the relevant version information of the server.
4.7.3 Set
1. Record…: Start the record operation of the server and the record files will be named with the
current time of the server; if the server has been implementing record operation, it will display “Stop
Record”;
2. Unicast…: Start unicast operation of the server; if the server has started unicast, it will display
“Stop Unicast”;
3. Broadcast: Start broadcast operation of the server; if the server has started broadcast, then it will

display “Stop B-cast”;
4. Restart: Soft reset the server.
5. Rest PWD: Server administrator password recovery; if the password is forgotten, the
administrator can use this option to reset the password. The reset password will be randomly
generated by the server and need to contact the factory to query! Please do not use this button
unless necessary!
4.8 Nonadministrator User Guide
4.8.1 Operator operation interface
As the support staff of the system administrator, the operator has most functional authorities of
the administrator, e.g. system information viewing, connecting conference rooms, record
management, live management, file management, system query, and common user authorization,
but can not system maintenance operations, such as server upgrade, changing server IP address,
adding new users, changing user information, and changing user permissions, etc., but can
authorize common users for file play on demand or download; can view all conference rooms or
classrooms in connection or add and configure new conference room or classroom information, but
can not change the conference room or classroom information parameters configured by the
administrator or other operators.
4.8.2 Common user operation interface
For common user, only the “plug-in unit download”, “authorized live streaming”, “authorized file
play on demand” or “download operations” are available after logs on the system.
a. Multicast/Uunicast (Note: The function must be authorized by the administrator; the Multicast
and Unicast function will be available only after downloading and installing the plug-in program!
Please click the “plug-in instruction” button and refer to the plug-in use instruction document on the
IE page for detailed use instruction.)
Click “Multicast/Unicast” can view authorized multicast and unicast list as

Click [Receive Multicast] / [Receive Unicast] button, and then the system will automatically call
the plug-in to receive live streamings.
b. File List: Only the files authorized by the administrators or operators will be displayed here:
Click to play on demand, Click [Download] to save the file on client’s pc.
Note: To use the ReachPlayer program to play the file on demand, the record & play plug-in
program must be downloaded and installed. For detailed instruction, please refer to the plug-in
instruction on the IE page. Click the “plug-in instruction” button on the page.
4.8.3 Guest operation interface
After the guest user logs on the system, only the “download plug-in”, “authorized live
multicast/unicast” operations are available, file play on demand and download are not available, as
shown in the following figure: (Note: Receive live streaming function is available only when the
plug-in program is downloaded and installed. For detailed instruction, please refer to the plug-in
use instruction on the IE page. Click the “Plug-in Instruction” button on the page. )

4.8.4 Plug-in (RecPlayer) brief instruction
When the system plug-in is receiving live streaming, file play on demand or playing local files, the
users can drag the mouse in the window to adjust the window display according to their own
preferences at any time.

item “Language” in the “Tool” menu in RecPlayer, and select “Simplified Chinese” or “English” in
