Thisuserguidedescribeshowtoinstall,connectandmaintainyour
HDDigitalRadomeAntenna.Themodelscoveredare:
•RD418HD-18”4kWDigitalRadomeAntenna.
•RD424HD-24”4kWDigitalRadomeAntenna.
Whenproperlyinstalledandoperated,theuseofthisradar
conformsto:
•IEEEC95.1-2005-StandardforSafetyLevelswithrespectto
HumanExposuretoRadioFrequencyElectromagneticFields,
3kHzto300GHz.
•ICNIRPGuidelines1998-InternationalCommissionon
Non-IonisingRadiationProtection:Guidelinesforlimiting
exposuretotime-varyingelectric,magneticandelectro-magnetic
elds(upto300GHz)1998.
TheHDDigitalRadomeAntennaisdesignedandmanufacturedto
meettherigorousdemandsofthemarineenvironment.However,
itmustbeinstalled,operatedandmaintainedproperly .Please
carefullyreadandfollowtherecommendedproceduresinthisuser
guide.

Raymarineequipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriate
ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulations,tominimize
electromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyour
system
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceis
notcompromised.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwherever
possible:
•Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
–Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcables
carryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesandantennas.
InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreased
to7ft(2m).
–Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradar
beamcannormallybeassumedtospread20degreesabove
andbelowtheradiatingelement.

wrenchoranyothertool.
Note: Iftheantennaconnectorisdisconnectedafterinitial
installation,werecommendthatbeforereconnecting,youlightly
coattheconnectorthreadwithRenolitAqua2Calciumgrease.
Connectingsignal
Referringtotheconnectioninformationforthemulti-functiondisplay
(MFD)towhichyouareconnecting,andtotheTypicalsystems
diagramsgivenhere,connectthedigitalcablesignalconnector
totheappropriateMFD.

•Ensurethat:
–Allsecuringboltsarefullytightenedandtheappropriate
mechanicallockingwashersareinplace.
–Allconnectionsaresecurelymade.
–Allconnectingcablesandwiresaresecuredandprotectedas
necessary.
•AskyourlocalRaymarineauthorizedinstallertocheckthe
installation.
Switchon&initialsetup
Usetheinformationgivenhereinconjunctionwiththerelevant
informationinyourmulti-functiondisplay(MFD)documentation,to
switchon,andtocarryouttheinitialchecksandsetuptasks.
1.PressandholddownthepowerkeyofyourMFDuntiltheunit
beeps.
Themagnetronwarm-upsequenceshouldthenstart.Whenthe
warm-upiscomplete,theunitshouldenterstandbymode.
2.UsetheappropriatesoftkeyonyourMFDtopowerontheHD
DigitalRadomeAntenna.
3.Ifnecessary ,attheMFD:
•adjusttheMFDbrightness.
•changethedefaultlanguagesettings.
4.Ensurethatallpersonnelareclearoftheantenna,thenswitch
totransmitmode.
5.CarryouttheradaroperationsdescribedintherelevantMFD
Owner’sHandbookandcheckthatallfunctionsappeartobe
satisfactory.
6.Checkthebearingalignmenttoensurethattargetsappear
attheircorrectbearingrelativetotheboat’sbow.Adjustthe
alignmentasnecessary
7.Checkthedisplaytimingbeforeusingthesystemfornavigation.
Checkingforinterference
Postinstallationcheck
Ifyouhaveinstalledanysystemaboardaboatormadeother
changestotheboat’selectronicsystems(radar,VHFradioetc.),
youneedtocheckbeforecastingoff,thatallelectricalsystems
operatesatisfactorilywithoutanyundueelectricalinterference,
inordertoconformwithElectroMagneticCompatibility(EMC)
regulations.T odothis:
1.Ensuringitissafetodoso,turnonallelectronicsystemsaboard
theboat.
2.Checkthattheelectronicsystemsalloperatesatisfactorily.

1.Removeoneoftheantenna-securingboltsandassociated
washers.
2.Cleantheboltandwashers.
3.UseDensopastetolightlyre-greasetheboltthread.
4.Replacetheboltandassociatedwashers.
5.Repeatsteps1to5forallantenna-securingbolts.
6.Tightenallantenna-securingboltstoatorqueof
20Nm(177lbf/inch).
Periodically,carryouttheseothermaintenancetasks:
•Ensuretheantennaisrmlyattachedtothemountingsurface
•Checkthatthecableconnectionsareingoodconditionand
securelyattached.
•Examineallcablesforsignsofchang,cutsorotherdamage.If
theantennaconnectorshowsanysignofcorrosion:
1.Disconnectit.
2.Cleantheconnector.
3.Lightlyre-coattheconnectorthreadswithRenolitAqua2
Calciumgrease.
4.Reconnectandhand-tightentheconnectionuntilitissecure.
