QuickStart Guide
The following information is provided to help you begin using your RadiSys EM440 ATX motherboard as quickly as possible.
PSU
It is recommended that an ATX style ‘soft-switched’ power supply be use d to power the board. A ‘hardswitched’ power suppl y will also work as long as it has the facilit y of pr ov iding 3.3V. Beware that some power management features will not be supported using ‘hard-switched’ PSU’s as they do not have a 5V

output.
CPU
The motherboard supports Socket 370 PGA Celeron and FC-PGA Pentium III processors operating at 66MHz and 100MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) . Processor s from 300MH z upto 850MHz are curr ently supp orted. Processor core multipl iers and vo ltag es are set aut omatically by the proc es sor , wh ich eliminates the need for any CPU speed jum pers . For proper cooli ng of the proces sor a n acti ve (f an) heat sink is recom m ended and a connector (J13) is provided for this.
RAM
Two 168-pin DIMM sockets are fitted to the motherboard which accept 64-bit wide unbuffered PC-100 SDRAM modules with Serial Presence Detect (SPD), providing a maximum capacity of 512MB. The EM440 motherboar d does support 72-bit wide ECC m emory. When using ECC modules enab le ECC mode using the BIOS setup facility during startup.
Hardware
The current hardware revisio n 01(Rev B) does not have an o peratio nal USB interf ace, this has been fix ed in revision 02(Rev C) and later.
BIOS
Configuration of the motherboar d, in the majority of cases, is achieved thr ough BIOS settings. Ple ase note that the BIOS is currentl y in its ear ly stages of devel opment an d sam ple boards m ay be sup plied with a prerelease BIOS in which not all options/settings are available. BIOS updates will be made available for download during the course of th e BIO S devel opm ent and will be in the do wnoa d library on the Radisys web
