PREPARATION
INSTALLING BATTERIES
Your radio requires two AAA batteries (not supplied) fo r power. For the best performance and longest life, we recommend alkaline bat­teries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555.

1. To remove the battery compartment cover, slide it in the direct ion of the arrow.
2. Insert the batteries into the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside.
Caution: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type.
3. Replace the cover.
Notes:
• If you wont be using the radio for a week or more, remove the batteries.
• Replace the batteries when the radio’s sound weakens or distorts.
Caution: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly.

Notes:
• Connecting earphones or headphones disconnects the radio’s built-in speaker.
• While connected to the radio, the ear­phones’ or headphones’ cord acts as the FM antenna.
Listening Safely
To protect your hearing, follow these guide­lines when you use earphones or head­phones.
• Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level.

• Do not listen at extremely high volume
levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hear ing loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not
increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing.

Traffic Safety
Do not wear earphones or headphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can creat e a tra ffic hazard an d is illegal in some areas.
Even though some earphones and head­phones are designe d to let you hear some out­side sounds when listening at normal volume levels, the y still present a traff ic hazard.

USING THE BELT-CLIP

To attach the belt-clip, insert its tabs into the slots on the back of the radio, then slide the clip toward the top of the radio until it locks in place.
To remove the belt-clip, press firmly and slide it toward the bottom of the radio.

Changing the AM Band Step-Rate
Your radio’s AM band is preset to tune in 10 KHz increments — the standard step-rate for radio frequencies in the United States. If you travel to other countrie s where the step-r ate is 9 KHz (Europe, for example), you can set your radio to tune in that increment.
Follow these steps to change your radio’s AM band step-rat e.
1. Open the battery compartment and remove the batter ies.

MAINTENANCE
• Keep the radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it
dry immediately.
• Handle the radio gently and carefully.
Don’t drop it.
• Use and store the radio only in normal
tem p erature environments.
• Keep the radio away f rom dust and dirt.
• Wipe the radio with a damp cloth occa-
sionally to keep it looking new.
Modifying or tampering with the radio’s inter­nal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty, and void your FCC authorizat ion to operate it. If your radio is not performi ng as it s houl d, t ake it t o your loca l Radio Shack store for assistance.

THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW
Your radio might cause TV or radio interfer­ence even when it is operating properly. To determine whether your radio is causing the interference, turn off your radio. If the interfer­ence goes away, your radio is causing the in­terference. Try to eliminate the interference by:
• Moving your radio away from the TV or radio.
• Contacting your local Radio Shack store for help.
If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop using your radio.
