FCC INFORMATION
We have designed your System 240 to conform to federal regulations, and you can connect it to most telephone lines. However, each system (and each device, such as a telephone or answering machine) that you connect to the telephone line draws power from the line. We refer to this power draw as the device’s the bottom of the module.
If you use more than one telephone or other device on the line, add up all of the RENs. If the total is more than five, your telephone mi ght not ring. In rural areas, a total REN of three might impair ringer operation. If ringer operation is impaired, remove a devi ce from the line.

Note: You must not connect the module to:
• Coin-operated systems
• Party-li ne systems
• Most electroni c key telephone systems
In the unlikely event that your module causes problems on the telephone line, the telephone company can disconnect your service. The telephone company attempts to notify you in advance. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company notifies you as soon as possible and advises you of your right to file a complaint with the FCC.
Also the telephone company can make changes to its lines, equipment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of this module. The telephone company notifies you of these changes in advance, so you can take the necessary steps to prevent interruption of your telep hone service.

This module complies with the limits for a Class B digital device as specified in Part 15 of
FCC Rules
. These limits provide reasonable protection against radio and TV interf erence i n a resid ential area. However, y our modul e mi ght caus e TV or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To eliminate interference, you can try one or more of the following correc ti ve m easures.
• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna
• Increase the distance between the module and the radio or TV
Consult your local RadioShack store if the problem continues.

INSTALLING BATTERIES
The System 240 is powered by three AAA batteries. For the longest operation, we recommend you use alkal ine bat teri es (Ra dio Shack Cat . No . 23-5 55). F ollow these steps to install the batteries.
Note:
If you are replacing th e batteries, unplug t he mo dule from the phone line.
1. Press down and slide off the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow.
2. Place the batteries in the compartment, following the correct polarity (+ and –) as marked inside the compartment. The call indicator on the front of the module lights and a test screen appears. The indicator turns off when the total memory capacity appears briefly. Then the screen goes blank.
3. Replace the cover.
9
43-962 A .fm Page 10 Mo nda y, August 16, 1999 3: 33 PM
When the battery low indicator ( ) appears in the top left corner of the display or the display dims, replace the batteries.
Cautions:
• Once you remove the batteries from the Caller ID module, you have 7 seconds to instal l new bat teries without losing saved information.
• Do not press any buttons after you remove the batteries. Doing so can delete the information stored in the module.
• Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batter ies of different capacities.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Your RadioShack System 240 60-Number Memory Caller ID is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggesti ons will help you care for the module so you can enjoy it for years.
Keep the module dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediat ely. Liquids can contain mine rals that corrode ele ctr onic circuits.
Use and store the module only in normal temperature environments. Temperature ext remes can shorten the life of electr onic devices, damage batt eries, and distort or melt plastic parts.
25
43-962 A .fm Page 26 Mo nda y, August 16, 1999 3: 33 PM
Handle the modul e gently a nd careful ly. Dropp ing it ca n damage the circu it b oards a nd c an cause t he module t o wo rk i mprope rly.
Wipe the mo dule with a d am p cloth occas ionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong deterg ents to clean the module.
Modifying or tamp ering wi th the modul e’s inter nal components can cau se a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your module is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance. If the trouble is harming the telephone lines, the telephone company might ask you to disconnect the module until you have resolved the problem.

LIGHTNING
This system has built-in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in phone and power line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed the FCC requirements. However, lightning striking the phone or power lines can damage the syst em .
Lightning damage is not common. Nevertheless, if you live in an area that has severe electrical storms, we suggest that you unplug the module during storms to reduce the possibility of damage.
