As your player pr ogresses u p the field succe ssfully, they’ll earn Powe rups that can be u sed. They will on ly be earned wh en the player has
successf ully broken ever y tackle up to that point.
FIELD GOAL CHALLENGE
In this game, you m ust complete a se t of increasin gly difficul t field goals.
First, watch th e moving Accurac y Meter at the botto m of the screen an d
snap the ball to l ock in your aim, the n watch the power mete r and tap
the action bu tton to lock in the powe r to complete the ki ck. Make sure to
complete the k ick before the def ense rushes . The more kicks yo u make,
the better you r score.
NOW THAT YOU’RE TRAINED, IT’S TIME TO PLAY A GAME!
GAME SETUP
When setti ng up the game, you ge t to choose which te ams to play for
and against .
If only one playe r is selected, yo u will be asked to cho ose a Difficu lty
Setting ( Rookie, Pro, or All Pro). D o so by using the Di rectional Bu ttons
and the Action B utton. Use the D irectional B uttons to scro ll through the
teams and the ir stats. Tap the Action B utton to lock in you r selection.
For two players , use the Direc tional Butto ns and Action Bu tton to
choose an Away Team. Player s will alternate u sing the Footbal l
Controlle r (Offen se) and the Ru nning Mat ( Defense) .
The last opti on to set up is the len gth of the game’s quar ters (1-5 min) .
Choose the Qu arter Len gth by using the Di rectional Bu ttons and the
Action But ton.
SELECTIN G PLAYS
Each player ca n select a play by us ing the Direc tional Butto ns and
Action But tons on the runnin g mat, or the O But ton and a passin g
motion to enter.
To select plays from th e football contr oller, the O Button ca n be used to
toggle betwe en plays. Duri ng game play, the O Butto n is used to toggle
between re ceivers.
The offens e will always be at the b ottom of the scre en while the defen se
will always be at the to p. Players one and t wo will be repre sented by their
helmets. Playe r one will be repr esented by a helm et facing the rig ht of the
screen. Playe r Two’s helmet w ill always face the le ft side of the sc reen.
OFFENSIVE PLAY
Once the playe rs are in posit ion, hike the ball by qui ckly snappi ng it
back to your ches t.
PASSING
When you’re ready to pa ss decide whi ch receiver to th row to by either
stepping on on e of the Running Pad’s but tons (1 Player m ode), or
pressing t he O Button on the fo otball contro ller, and then make a
passing mot ion with the footba ll controlle r.
NOTE: T he player on the scr een will have an “L”, “R”, or “X” above the
players head .
RUNNING
1 Player
After comp leting a pass, yo u control the spe ed of the player ru nning with
the ball by runni ng on the Direc tional Butto ns. While runn ing, watch the
Turbo Meter on your side o f the screen. O nce the meter rea ches into the
red, your player w ill be given a quick s peed burs t. When the ball c arrier
gets close to a de fender, step on the run ning mat’s Action Bu tton. If
timed corr ectly, this makes the ba ll carrier p erform an a ppropriate a ction
(hurdle, s pin, or stiff a rm).
Note: In 2 Pl ayer Mode, offe nse does not have tur bo, but can juke wit h
the O Button on th e football.
FIELD GOAL S
Watch the Accura cy Meter and snap t he ball at just the r ight time. The n,
tap the Action /O Button to lock in the ki cker’s power.
EXTRA POINTS & TWO PO INT CONVERSIONS
After a touch down is scored, t he offensive pl ayer can selec t an “automatic
extra point ” or go for two poi nts by selectin g a different p lay. After a
touchdown AUTO PAT (Point Afte r Touchdown) is high lighted. The playe r can
then either s elect AUTO PAT, or scroll to a different p lay to go for 2 points.
KICKOFF
During Kic koffs, the kic king team will be at t he bottom of the sc reen
kicking to the r eturn team.
PUNTING
You may choose a punt play i n the Play Select S creen then exec ute it
the same as you wou ld a kick off.
SAFET Y
Whenever a ball c arrier is t ackled in thei r own end zone, the defe nse is
awarded two po ints. The offe nse must imme diately kickof f the ball to
the defense.
DEFEN SIVE PL AY
BEFORE TH E SNAP
The defensi ve player can step on th e Arrow Butto ns to select dif ferent
defensive lin emen on the field . This gives the def ensive player con trol
over a partic ular lineman f or rushing.
PASS PLAY
Run on the Lef t & Right Arrow Bu ttons to build up yo ur chosen playe r’s
turbo meter to do a r ush move. Try to break thr ough that offe nsive line!
Once the ball i s in the air, however, your controll ed defender
automatica lly becomes th e one closest to th e intended rec eiver. As
the ball near s, try to time ste pping on the Acti on Button to go for a n
interceptio n, knock the bal l down, or jar the ba ll loose from the r eceiver.
RUNNING P LAY
When chasi ng after a ball c arrier, run on the Le ft & Right Arr ow Buttons
to increase you r player’s turbo mete r.
Once your playe r is close to the bal l carrier, step on the A ction Button
and you player wil l dive toward and tack le the ball carr ier.
ACTIONS
Actions are a b ig part of this g ame, and can gr eatly add to your su ccess
if you can maste r the timing of thes e. Running back c hallenge is h elpful
in getting a fe el for correc t timing of actio ns.
In most case s when your player c omes in close p roximity with
another playe r, an action can be per formed, if timed corre ctly. It is
recommen ded that you expe riment with ac tions at variou s times in the
games to see wh at can be done.
Available defe nse actions in clude power tack les, cough- ups,
interceptio ns, and bat-down s. Offense a ctions inclu de spin moves, stif f
arms, and dr ives. If timed co rrectly, the best a ction for the sit uation is
automatica lly perfor med.
POWER UPS
These spe cial moves will be awa rded to players a nd then used wit h
plays when they h ave been selecte d on the Play Call scr een.
Each Power-Up will be d isplayed on-s creen by its own ic on and sound
effect. Wh en in use, Power-Ups ar e displayed by show ing an icon over
the player that i s affected by tha t Power-Up.
AWARDING POWER-UP S
Each time the of fense or defe nse makes a key play, that team i s awarded
a Power-Up.
When awarded a Powe r-Up, a window appea rs that rando mly awards a
power-up to that team.
POWER- UP SELECTI ON
Each user ca n store up to six Power-Ups fo r offense and d efense. Afte r
a play is picked, i f a Power-up is available, it i s displayed with t heir name
and icon in a play c all window. If a user ha s a Power-Up, but doesn’t
want to use it, they c an select “No ne” by scrolling to i t.
Once a Power-Up is act ivated, an icon ap pears over the he ad of the
player that is se lected to use it.
Hint : If both offens e and defense ch oose the same Powe r-up, those
Power-ups are rend ered usele ss.
POWER- UP DESCRIPTION S (OFFENSE & DEFENS E)
TURBO – The pl ayer gets a turbo bo ast for a few seco nds.
STICKY H ANDS– G ives the player a gre ater chance to ca tch/inte rcept
the ball thrown.
FREEWAY– Gives the ball c arrier the en hanced abil ity to break /make
tackles.
METEOR – On offense, a r andom recei ver is chosen. W hen the pass is
completed, t he defenders f all to the ground a llowing him to make the
play. On defense, us ing meteor will c ause the ball to be “co ughed up”
more often af ter tackling a receiver.
THE BULL– Ma kes the offens ive line impenet rable to rushe s or blitzes.
On defense, th e highlighted p layer will insta ntly break thro ugh the
offensive li ne to rush the QB.
HEAT – This will inc rease the QB’s abili ty to complete th e pass and make
the big play. On defen se, the coverage of th e receivers i s increased.
NOW GET OUT THE RE AND SCORE A TOUCHDOWN!
TROUBLE SHOOTING
TV
To locate your auxiliar y channel, which is usuall y not 3 or 4, but a gaming
channel fou nd between 2 an d 99 (example 2, 1, 0, 99 ), first tr y 00 to see
if it is the auxil iary chan nel. Channel s downwards from 3 un til a Line 1
or Line 2, Video 1 o r Video 2, Front, Aux, AV, etc., appea rs on screen ,
then push the p ower button on th e game and it sho uld automatica lly
come on if you have se lected the cor rect chann el. If this does no t work,
another way to dete rmine your auxil iary chan nel is to take a look at yo ur
television re mote. There may be a b utton on the rem ote that may take
you directly to t he correct ch annel. The but tons you are l ooking for may
be labeled I nput, AUX, AV, Line, TV/ Video, or Video. If your remote h as
one of these bu ttons, turn your te levision bac k to Channel 3 and se lect
that button. T he power button o n the game shoul d be turned on in o rder
for the game to ap pear on the televi sion. If your televi sion remote doe s
not have any of these b uttons, and ch annel 00 is not wo rking, you may
need to searc h the main menu fo r a way to determine your a uxiliary
channel. If no ne of these meth ods have helped you l ocate your auxil iary
channel, you m ay need to check you r owner’s manual an d/or cont act a
local televi sion repair co mpany.
VCR
When conne cting to a VCR, you must fi rst star t with a blue backgr ound
showing on your te levision scre en. To obtain a blue scr een, try ins erting
a videotape i nto the VCR, let it sta rt to play, then hit the sto p button. This
may give you a blue sc reen, then you ca n channel down to you r auxiliar y
channel. If th e blue screen s till does not ap pear, try enteri ng your TV
and/or VC R main menu and se e if it gives you opti ons to select a bl ue
screen bac kground. Many tim es if you enter the ma in menu on your
television you c an change the s etting from c able to video and d isplay
a blue scree n. Also if you have an ol der televisio n, you may locate a
hidden door o n your television th at has color, picture , horizontal, ver tical,
and cable, an tennae button s. If your televisi on includes th is panel,
you can selec t the antennae /cable button and see th e blue scree n
appears . If you have tried all of t hese options a nd are still unsu ccessful
connectin g the console, th en you may need to che ck your VCR owner’s
manual or co ntact the manu facturer to find ou t how to set up your VCR
for console g ames.
