SB5W

WALL MOUNT STEREO DIRECT BOX

The Radial SB5W is a stereo direct box made to fi t a standard single-gang electrical wall
plate to provide the AV integrator with a simple, yet effective means of connecting an audio
source such as a laptop computer, iPhone or tablet to an audio system. Because the SB5W
is completely passive, no power is required. You simply connect the outputs using standard
twisted pair balanced audio cable to the mic input of the PA system and you are set to go! With
choice of 3.5mm mini TRS and RCA inputs, connection is easy. Simply plug in and set the
level control to suit. If you are short of input channels, the SB5W is equipped with a mono-sum
switch. To eliminate hum and buzz, the SB5W features transformer isolation to eliminate noise
caused by ground loops. This is augmented with a recessed ground lift switch. A fully protective
steel housing keeps the electronics safe while reducing electro-magnetic induction. Tie-wrap
retension slots ensure the screw-down connectors remain safe and secure.

LEVEL: Let’s you adjust the volume
level of your source device.

MONO: Mixes the left and right
inputs together and outputs a
mono signal to the PA system.

LIFT: Disconnects the audio ground of
both channel outputs to eliminate hum
and buzz created by ground loops.

3.5MM INPUT: Stereo mini-phone jack lets
you connect mobile devices such as laptop
computers, MP3 players or tablets. Plugging
in here will deactivate the RCA connectors.

RCA INPUT: A stereo pair of RCA inputs
lets you connect a wide range of consumer
electronics such as CD/DVD players.

MOUNTING TABS: Heavy-duty front panel
mounts in standard electrical junction boxes.

DUAL POTENTIOMETERS: Doubled up
solder points for greater durability. Steel
casing with steel shaft and retention nut will
not bend when under stress.

EXTRA DURABLE SWITCHES: With metal
outer casing are rated at over 20,000 cycles
for added durability.

TRANSFORMER ISOLATION: Eliminates
buzz & hum caused by ground loops.

OUTPUT TERMINALS: Balanced left and
right mic-level output connections are made
via two screw-down terminals.

TIE-WRAP SLOTS: Retention slots cut in
the steel frame for tie-wraps (included) help
secure the cable and provide strain relief for
the connectors.

Using the SB5W with a laptop

Connect the mini TRS audio jack from your
laptop directly to the 3.5mm input on the
SB5W and it automatically converts the
unbalanced signal to a low-Z balanced line to
feed the PA system up to 100 meters away.

Using the SB5W with a tablet

No need to convert from digital to analog!
Simply connect the headphone out from your
tablet or cell phone to the SB5W and let it
do the work. Adjust the volume using the
convenient front panel level control and sum
to mono if need be.

Using the SB5W with a CD player

Connect the line level output from your CD
player or hi-fi using the convenient RCA jacks
to feed the PA system at the far end of the
room. Adjust the volume level from the source,
the SB5W wall plate or the mixer channel.
