Downloading the RaceChip app

Installation

If you do not  nd an entry in your Google Play Store or Apple Store under the search term

“RaceChip”, the RaceChip app may not be supported by your smartphone. In this case, please

 rst make sure that your smartphone is running the latest operating system version. If this is the
case, but you still cannot  nd the RaceChip app, please contact our Customer Service staff.

1. The RaceChip app is free to download. It is
compatible with smartphones running the
following operating systems:

If you have an older version of either of these operating systems, please update the operating system on your
smartphone.

2. Android-Smartphone: Open the Google Play Store.
iPhone: Open the Apple App Store.

3. Enter the search term RaceChip in the search box. The RaceChip app should appear in the list of search results as in
the following picture.

4. Now download the RaceChip app for free and install it on your smartphone.

5. The icon of the RaceChip app should now appear on your smartphone and you should be able to open the program.

Locating and entering the serial number

1. Open the RaceChip app.

2. After you have opened the RaceChip app for the  rst time, you will  rst go through a short setup process in order to
establish a connection to the RaceChip Ultimate Connect.

3. Con rm by tapping the OK button that you have read the note ALWAYS ACT IN COMPLIANCE WITH APPLICABLE
RULES. Now tap ULTIMATE CONNECT SETUP to commence the setup process.

4. You will be prompted to enter the serial number of your RaceChip Ultimate Connect. The serial number is located on the
back of the connector of your RaceChip Ultimate Connect (see image). There are two ways to enter the serial number:
either by using the barcode scanner or via manual input.

5. Barcode scanning: to scan the barcode, select

SCAN BAR CODE. The app will then access your

smartphone camera (your smartphone might ask for
your authorization and you will need to grant this).

Position the barcode of your RaceChip within the orange
frame of the barcode scanner displayed on your screen
and avoid shadows or glare. After a few seconds, the
barcode will be automatically read and you will be returned
to the setup process. The serial number should appear in
the box.

6. The scanned or manually entered serial number is now saved in the RaceChip app.

7. Before you can begin con guring the RaceChip app, the RaceChip must  rst be installed in the engine bay.

Note for Android Smartphones: For some Android smartphones (especially LG, Engineola and

Sony devices), in order to establish Bluetooth pairing with the Ultimate Connect, you must  rst

directly pair your smartphone with the Ultimate Connect via your smartphone Bluetooth settings
before starting this setup process.

If you have dif culties scanning the serial number, you can also enter it manually. Tap the

ENTER MANUALLY, input box to enter the serial number using your smartphone keypad.

First steps for installing the RaceChip

Open your vehicle’s bonnet and close and lock the doors. For vehicles with a keyless system:
please place the key outside the radio reception range of the vehicle (to be on the safe side, at a
distance of 10 metres).

After locking the vehicle, wait another 10 minutes. This ensures that there is no residual

electrical voltage in the engine bay connections and that the signal ow in the engine ceases.

Generally speaking, you do not require special tools to perform the installation. However, a
simple wire cutter is useful for the purposes of removing excess material from the cable tie once
the installation is complete.

In the following section we explain how to install your RaceChip using an example engine. If your
engine has a different design, individual engine parts may be arranged differently in the engine
compartment when compared to the images here. However, the parts that are relevant for the
Race Chip are largely the same.

Before installing the RaceChip, please rst wait for your engine to cool down. Otherwise there is

a risk of sustaining burns.

Remove the engine cover from the holding clips and place it next to the car. You must jiggle the cover slightly to release
it from the holding clips. If there is no cover on your engine, you can proceed directly to step 2.

In some vehicles it is necessary to loosen one or more bolts before you can remove the engine cover.

This image shows the connection that is relevant for the installation in your vehicle.

It may be the case that the engine
in your vehicle is not longitudinal,
as shown in step 2, but rather
transverse. In this case you must
apply the steps of the installation
instructions to the type of engine
you have. The installation steps
remain the same.

First locate the Common Rail connection socket in your engine bay. The connection
socket to the Common Rail is located either at one of the ends or centrally on the

Common Rail and can be clearly identi ed by the large union nut. The best way to  nd

the rail itself is by following the injection lines. These always lead directly into the
injection system, i.e., they can be traced back from the engine block.

Now remove the plug from the connection socket by gently pressing the locking plug (see image below) while removing
the plug from the socket.

The plugs are locked into the connection sockets by means of a locking clip.
Press the locking clip and pull the plug.

Because the plug is often connected very tightly to the socket, it is helpful,
when pressing the locking clip, to  rst push the plug towards the connection
socket before subsequently pulling on it.

In addition, temperature  uctuations in the engine bay can result in a type

of “vacuum effect” between the plug and the socket. This can be solved by
lightly “wiggling” the plug.

Please note that there may be different versions of the installed connection
plug. If the plug shown here does not correspond to the plug in your car, you

will fi nd a list of other plugs on page 27 with tips on how they can be removed.

Now connect one part of the RaceChip wiring harness with the disconnected series plug and the other part with the
socket in your vehicle. Make sure that the locking clip of the plug engages once again.

Now connect your RaceChip to the newly installed wiring harness. To do so,  rst remove the deactivation plug that is

still connected to the RaceChip wiring harness in its as-delivered condition. Pull the purple-coloured plug outwards and
then remove the deactivation plug from the wiring harness connector.

With the RaceChip Ultimate Connect and RaceChip app, you can easily activate and deactivate
the performance boost at the touch of a button. The deactivation plug is generally not necessary
but in cases where it is needed, the plug functions as follows:

The deactivation plug allows the vehicle to be restored to its factory settings without the need
to remove the RaceChip wiring harness. In order to use the deactivation plug, you must remove
the RaceChip from the wiring harness connector and then replace the chip with the deactivation
plug.

If you wish to replace the RaceChip with the deactivation plug at some stage in the future,
please ensure that there is no electrical voltage present (see notes on page 8).

Fastening the RaceChip

When searching for a secure fastening point for the RaceChip, make sure that the wiring harness can be properly routed
in the engine bay in the next installation step. The harness must not, for instance, be routed along engine parts that
become very hot, nor should the harness be routed under tension. Fasten the RaceChip in place using the supplied
cable tie, as illustrated in the image above.

• When selecting a fastening point, make sure that the RaceChip is protected from exposure
to water, heat, and vibrations.

• Do not wrap the RaceChip in an airtight bag as this can lead to a built up of condensation.

Route the cable along a suitable path (for example, along an existing harness) and then fasten it using the supplied
cable tie. Using a wire cutter, you can remove the excess length of the cable tie.

• Do not route the cable in areas in your vehicle that become overly hot during operation
(e.g. the exhaust system, turbocharger, etc.).

• Do not route the cable along movable parts (e.g. fan belts, cam belts, fan wheels).

• Never fasten the cable onto hoses (e.g. a brake hose) as this could result in abrasion.

Completing the installation

Re-attach the cover of your engine and close the bonnet. The installation process is now complete and your RaceChip is
ready for use. Now you just need to pair the RaceChip with the RaceChip app on your smart phone.

1. A working Bluetooth connection is required for the RaceChip Ultimate Connect to communicate with the RaceChip app.
Activate your smartphone’s Bluetooth function. This is located in the settings of your smartphone operating system.

2. Now open the RaceChip app.

3. The previously scanned or manually entered serial number is displayed in the RaceChip app.

If this is not the case, please tap

ULTIMATE CONNECT SETUP. (See note on page 7-8)

Note for Android Smartphones: For some Android smartphones (especially LG, Motorola and

Sony devices), in order to establish Bluetooth pairing with the Ultimate Connect, you must rst

directly pair your smartphone with the Ultimate Connect via your smartphone Bluetooth settings
before starting this setup process.

4. Click NEXT to conrm the serial number. The RaceChip app will now connect to our server and download your vehicle
information. An internet connection is required for this step.

5. The vehicle-specic information is now displayed
in the app. Please check the accuracy of the vehicle
information and conrm this by tapping

THE VEHICLE INFORMATION IS CORRECT.

Now your vehicle information has been saved.

6. Now a Bluetooth PIN, consisting of the last six digits of the serial number, is displayed.

Please make a note of this. You must enter it again at a later step in this process.

Please make sure that your smartphone’s Bluetooth function is turned on. The Bluetooth

function must rst be enabled for the RaceChip app to establish a connection to your RaceChip

Ultimate Connect.

7. Turn the key in the ignition to the start position to supply power to the RaceChip Ultimate Connect. Please do not
completely start your engine at this point however. The setup process cannot be completed if the engine is switched
on fully.

In modern vehicles with a keyless system, you can switch on the ignition without fully starting the engine by pressing
the ignition button once or twice, without using the pedals.

8. Now tap START BLUETOOTH.

9. Enter the six-digit Bluetooth PIN you previously made a note of PAIR. The setup of your RaceChip Ultimate Connect is
now complete.

You’re done! You can now control your Race Chip Ultimate Connect via your smart phone. The only step left before you
can perform a test drive is to select a performance mode.

This is explained in the following pages.

Using the RaceChip app

ON/OFF function

Performance modes

You can enable and disable the Ultimate Connect via the ON/OFF function. If you disable the chip, the performance of
your vehicle will correspond once again to the default factory performance.

You can optimise the performance of your car via three performance modes that have been specially  ne-tuned to your

engine.

EFFICIENCY

The EFFICIENCY setting for smart driving: more power and more torque, with

the greatest ef ciency.

SPORT

Do you have a quick leg coming up?
The SPORT setting lets you to summon a signi cant power increase. Perfect
for dynamic driving.

RACE

Maximum performance with up to 30% more power. With the RACE setting,
power delivery is optimised for maximum dynamism. Welcome to pole position!

You can only change the settings of the Ultimate Connect with the engine of your vehicle turned
off and with the ignition switched on. Once you start the engine, the settings in the app are
locked.

The reason for this is the note ALWAYS ACT IN COMPLIANCE WITH APPLICABLE RULES:
“A driver of a vehicle may not use a mobile phone or car phone if the mobile phone or the headset
of the car phone must be picked up or held. This does not apply if the vehicle is stationary or if
the vehicle engine is turned off.”

Skip timer

If you do not need the warm-up timer after an engine
start, you can easily end the warm-up phase via the
button „SKIP TIMER“ button. The Ultimate Connect is
activated straight away.

Warm Up Timer

Determine the number of minutes from when the
engine starts until the activation of the performance
increase. This enables you to take advantage of the
full performance of your engine once it has reached
optimal operating temperature. This helps guarantee the
maximum longevity of the engine.

Your RaceChip Ultimate Connect always saves your selected settings so you do not have to enter them each time
the engine starts. Even if you don’t have your phone with you it’s still not a problem! The RaceChip Ultimate Connect
operates using the last saved settings.

Erase all Bluetooth connections with Ultimate Connect

Enable this feature so that you can always benet from the latest version of the RaceChip optimisation software. As soon

as our development team has released a software update for your car, it will be automatically downloaded and installed.

The RaceChip app opens up new possibilities for accessing RaceChip’s range of technical expertise. The app settings were

already ne-tuned to your engine when you got the app, but if you want to make additional ne adjustments (for example

if your car deviates too much from the series standard), we can adjust the settings for you on an individual basis and then
simply make them available for download. Just contact our Customer Service staff and we can adapt your settings via the
Internet and perform the required adjustment.

The app always saves the last used vehicle settings. If problems should occur after an update of the vehicle settings, you
can always restore the last saved vehicle settings here.

The performance improvement of the race chip Ultimate Connect will be reduced to a minimum. You should only select this
setting in exceptional cases (see Troubleshooting) or if you have been requested to do so by our Customer Service staff.

The RaceChip Ultimate Connect can be connected to a maximum of 8 smartphones via Bluetooth. In order to connect to

additional smartphones, you must rst erase the memory. You can delete all previous connections using this function. The

Ultimate Connect can then reconnect with up to 8 smartphones via Bluetooth. You will be required to re-enter the Bluetooth
PIN when creating new Bluetooth connections.

Troubleshooting

No connection to your Ultimate
Connect

Please make sure that your vehicle’s ignition is in “start” mode. The Ultimate
Connect must be supplied with power for a pairing to work.
Also check whether Bluetooth is activated on your smartphone.

Displayed vehicle information is
incorrect

If the information displayed by the RaceChip app does not match your actual
vehicle information, please contact our Customer Service staff.

No performance boost – I am not

satised with the performance level

of my vehicle

The RaceChip Ultimate Connect offers you the option of choosing between 3

power levels: Efciency <Sport < Race.

If none of the 3 individual settings appeal to you, RaceChip Ultimate Connect
can receive live updates from our Customer Service department.

The RaceChip app opens up new possibilities for you in using RaceChip’s

technical expertise. The app settings were already ne-tuned to your engine
when you got the app, but if you want to make additional ne adjustments, we

can adjust the settings for you on an individual basis and then simply make
them available for download. This process takes only a few minutes of your
time.
Just contact our Customer Service staff and we can adapt your settings via the
Internet and perform the required adjustment.

Rattling - My engine is rattling.

If your engine is rattling, please contact our Customer Service staff.

Knocking - My engine knocks. If your engine knocks, simply contact our Customer Service staff.

The vehicle does not start - After

the installation of the RaceChip, the
vehicle’s ignition does not work.

Please make sure that you have installed the chip in accordance with these

instructions. If you are not able to nd the cause of the fault, please contact our

Customer Service staff.

If, after the installation, your RaceChip does not function as desired, the following list serves as a set of troubleshooting tips.

An engine indicator lamp lights
up - After the installation of the

RaceChip, an engine indicator lamp
lights up (fail-safe/fault signal)

Firstly, a lit engine indicator lamp does not necessarily mean that something
is wrong with your engine. This may be a protective measure designed by
the manufacturer. There can be several different causes of an illuminated
fault signal once the engine has been started. However, the RaceChip cannot
independently bring about this type of fault signal. When the engine is started
or at idle speed, the performance boost itself is not active. This type of fault
can be the result of a sensor being disconnected while the control unit is active.
Please consult the information on page 8.

If there is a recurring fault signal, starting and restarting the engine several
times may solve the problem. If the engine indicator lamp lights up after a
period of driving, please contact our Customer Service staff.

No noticeable fuel savings - I do not
notice any fuel savings

Please compare the before-and-after levels of fuel consumption based on
the vehicle’s actual consumption – the on-board computer often displays
incorrect values. It is important that you do not inappropriately adjust your
driving style as a result of the RaceChip performance boost, i.e. by accelerating
more frequently. If the fuel savings provided by the RaceChip in its as-delivered
condition are not satisfactory, please contact our Customer Service staff for a

ne-tuning adjustment.

Other problems connecting to the
RaceChip app

If problems occur in connecting with the RaceChip app, for example, the
system crashes, the app does not start, or any other problem, please contact
our Customer Service staff.

With your help we can x any problems much more efciently.

Before calling, it is best to have the following information ready:

• Your invoice number

• Which smartphone do you use? (iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5 etc.)

• It is best if you can let us know which version of your operating
system is installed (e.g. iOS 8.4.1 or Android 5.02)

• What is the error? The more precise your description of the error, the
better we can target the problem and the more efciently we can help
you.

Does the RaceChip app have to be
permanently active?

No. The last chosen setting is automatically saved.
You only need to select your preferred setting and then the app can then be
closed.

In the  rst step, the red locking clip is pulled out.
Press the red locking clip, which functions as a lever for loosening the plug
and pulling it out.

Because the plug is often connected very tightly to the socket, it is helpful,
when pressing the locking clip, to  rst push the plug towards the connection
socket before subsequently pulling on it.

In addition, temperature  uctuations in the engine bay can result in a type

of “vacuum effect” between the plug and the socket. This can be solved by
lightly “wiggling” the plug.
