Implement description
The NE series Nockering Roller is a trailed bed roller for seed bed preparation on previously ploughed or similarly prepared soils; it is specially designed as a trailed implement for furrow subsoil
packers. As well as the crushing and soil recompaction action, it can achieve an erosion-inhibiting
seed bed structure with the selected ring shape.
In the standard version, individually exchangeable scraper tines ensure roller operation without
obstruction.
The Nockering Roller NE is suitable for use behind all standard congured furrow subsoil packers
of the UDP and DUPA series.
Retrofitting a trailed implement
It must generally be ensured when retrotting a furrow subsoil packer with a Nockering Roller that the
working width of the roller exceeds that of the packer by at least 10 cm. In order to achieve a clean
working edge, it is advisable not to arrange the roller directly in the line of the packer but offset by
approx. 10 cm to the side facing away from the plough. This is achieved by arranging the pivot pin for
the roller drawbar out of centre accordingly. This is already the case for the furrow subsoil packers as
supplied from the factory.
It must be ensured for the selection of the drawbar length that for packers with catch arms, the
respective free catch arm depending on the version and adjustment can protrude considerably far
to the back. The drawbar length must be matched to the working width or the external dimensions
of the packer.
It must therefore strictly be ensured during the rst use of the combination that the turning process
can be performed without obstruction at any time. Contact between packer and trailed implement
must always be prevented.
The semi-mounting of the trailed implement on the packer for transport purposes is possible without
hesitation for the single-furrow packers. However, this is strongly discouraged for third party makes
due to the different frame geometries and load action points.

Commissioning / Operation
Safety instructions:
• There is a risk of injury during the turning process due to unpredictable movements of
the implement and the risk of being sandwiched between packer and trailed implement.
It is therefore forbidden to stand in the swivel and working area of the combination
during use.
• It is forbidden to stand between packer and trailing roller during raising and lowering.
Additional crushing and shearing points between packer and trailed implement occur
during lifting of the packer.
• Riding on the implement for checking or other purposes is not permitted.
• The trailed implement must be put into its working position before use.
• When using the trailed implement on a double furrow packer of the DUPA 700 series,
always swivel and lock the upper linkage support of the packer into the bottom position
in order to prevent obstruction of the roller drawbar during the turning process.
Trailed packers are used for further crumbling and recompaction of the soil for seed bed preparation.
Due to their passive tools, very good working results up to the nished seed bed can be achieved
with them on light to medium soil. They are of course less suitable for locations with heavy to very
heavy soil.
The trailed implement is connected to the packer using the pivot pin (swivel) above the packer frame.
During ploughing, the packer is as usual released shortly before the end of the furrow at the head
line. After catching the packer for the next furrow, the packer rst pushes the trailed implement back
a little, passes it and turns it in the new running direction.
Attention:
Due to the attachment of the trailed implement in the upper area of the packer frame,
the frame is inevitably tilted to the back. Therefore, a support skid for the trailed implement
drawbar is always required for single-furrow packers. An additional pulling chain to support
the packer frame against tipping must be provided for the packer attachment in the case
of bed plough operation.
The work pattern of the roller can vary due to the asymmetrical cam shape of the roller rings.
If a higher proportion of larger clods on the surface is desired, the roller can be changed over from
the standard passive setting to active by turning the row of rollers on the frame. This increases the
casting effect.
In rare cases, jamming of individual stones between the cam rings can happen on stony locations
for certain types and sizes of stones; this can result in blocking the ring concerned when the scraper
is reached. It can be helpful at such locations to completely remove the scraper bar. The jammed
stones usually detach themselves on their own after a short time.

Working and transport positions
1. Semi-mounted implements
Safety instructions:
• Never stand between packer and trailing implement during forward and reverse travel
– crushing hazard!
• Note length of the combination! For the transport in the front power lift, the distance
from the centre of the steering wheel to the front edge of the attachment must not
exceed 350 cm on public roads!
When using the trailed roller on a single-furrow packer of the UPA 900 series, it is possible to
semi-mount the trailed implement on the packer frame for transport purposes and to transport the
combination as a unit in the three-point attachment. Proceed as follows for this:
• Couple the packer to the tractor three-point linkage and drive so far until the combination
is aligned.
• Unlock the telescopic drawbar by removing the locking pin.
• Raise the tractor power lift until the rear crossbar of the packer is just underneath the
semi-mounted hook of the trailing implement; if necessary lengthen the upper linkage of
the three-point power lift.
• Reverse tractor carefully until the roller drawbar is completely inserted.
• Insert locking pin for the drawbar locking in the drilled hole for the transport position
(shortest position).
• Raise combination carefully; in doing so, check the threading of the semi-mounted hook.
Proceed in reverse order to put the implement in the working position.
The telescoping action of the drawbar can be adversely affected by strong soiling of the drawbar.
If necessary, the drawbar must be cleaned of large deposits of earth. If the telescoping is still not
successful, a small correction of the lift height of the power lift or a small steering movement usually
helps. It is also helpful in such cases to support the telescoping process by starting in reverse. If it
is also not successful using these actions, the drawbar or the cladding tube must be examined for
damage (e.g. drawbar twisted?).
It is in fact also generally possible to semi-mount the trailing implement on double-furrow packers.
However, this is not advisable due to the unfavourable weight distribution, particularly for larger working widths (see also “additional information about the attachment of heavy implements”). We therefore discourage this solution.

2. Implements with transport wheels
Safety instructions:
• Only swivel the running gear when the packer is lowered.
• When swivelling the running wheels, forces occur outside the end positions which
can cause the extension lever to y around.
Grip the lever rmly and do not release in the unsecured running gear position.
Risk of injury by lever ying back.
• If the lever is released in the unsecured running gear position, it can be ung out and
injure other people.
• Always secure locking bolts with split pins.
Due to fold-out transport wheels, the Nockering Roller can remain on the raised packer during a
transport journey without appreciably adding to the load on the tractor power lift. This solution is
therefore particularly suitable for such cases where semi-mounting the trailed implement on the
packer overloads the lifting force of the tractor or unacceptably inuences its driving behaviour as is
the
case for large working widths or in combination with double-furrow packers.
It is strongly advised not to transport the trailed implement without transport wheels by only
rolling the roller on paved roads as the risk of cast iron break is too high. This is only advisable
on unpaved roads.
A combination of transport running gear and semi-mounting is not possible.
The transport wheels are put into the transport position using a manually operated kinematic lift
linkage as follows:
• Remove locking bolts of the transport wheels on both sides when the packer is lowered.
• Put extension lever (located in the drawbar) on the operating pin of the lift mechanism and pivot
downwards with some momentum until the transport wheel is located in the lower end position.
• Secure transport wheel in this position with the locking bolt.
• Repeat this procedure for the other transport wheel.
Proceed in reverse order to put the implement in the working position.
Instructions for road transport
The implement must be in the transport position during the road transport.
The permitted transport speed for towed implements is 25 km/h.
The corresponding regulations must be observed when using public roads. This particularly applies
to warning signs and lighting.
Larger earth adhesions must be removed before using public roads.
Note:
According to § 23 StVZO and § 31 StVZO, the responsibility for operation while using
mounted or coupled working equipment is assumed by the vehicle’s driver and owner.

Maintenance / Repairs
Safety instructions:
• Only carry out maintenance work when the implement is properly parked or attached!
• Ensure for versions with running gear that the part to be maintained is unloaded; use
suitable support elements if necessary!
• Repair work on the tyres and wheels must only be performed by specialists using the
suitable installation tools!
• Collect any discharging greases and dispose of properly!
1. Lubrication
The following lubrication points with lubrication nipples are located on the packer trailed implements
of the NE series:
• Shaft bearing, Nockering Roller: underside of the bearing case
• Wheel bearings, transport wheels: cannot be lubricated in every version, sealed-for-life bearings
are partially possible.
Depending on the operating conditions, we recommend lubrication with commercially available roller
bearing grease free of SO2 (e.g. lithium saponied grease) at the following intervals:
• Shaft bearings in each case after 25 – 50 ha, however at least once per season and after removal
of wrappings
• Swivel joints as required, however at least once per day
• All lubrication points before and after winterising and after cleaning the implement with high
pressure water jet
The lubrication points must never run dry.
Never press in excess amounts of grease. One or two grease gun shots are usually sufcient for ball
bearings.
Where seals on shaft bearings are undamaged, the grease requirement is very low. No grease must
discharge from the bearing.
Note:
Carefully press grease into shaft bearings to avoid damage to the bearing seals.
2. Checks / Maintenance
The following preventive maintenance must be performed regularly:
• Check bolts for tightness from time to time. Tighten all bolts for new implements or after repairs
after the rst 10 ha.
• Check pin retainers (clamp sleeves, split pins) for completeness and damage, replace where
necessary
• Check bearings, and especially seals, for damage. Replace bearings if seals are damaged.
• Check wheel bearings for damage and play.
• Check bearings for wrappings. Remove wrappings immediately and lubricate bearings afterwards.
• Keep warning signs on the implement legible; replace if necessary.
• Check air pressure of the transport wheels. Tyres 4.00-8: 5.5 bar, tyres 205/70-15: 3.0 bar.

General safety instructions
• Check implement and tractor for road safety and operational safety before each use!
• As well as the instructions in this operating manual, also observe the generally applicable safety
and accident prevention regulations!
• The installed warning and information signs give important information for safe operation –
compliance with these provides your safety!
• Attach and check transport equipment (lighting, warning devices)!
• The corresponding regulations must be observed when using public roads!
• Check the immediate vicinity (children) before starting, before swivelling the implement in and out
and before operation!
• Riding on the implement during the work and the transport journey is not permitted!
• It is not permitted to stand in the swivelling and working area of the implement!
• The implement must be coupled in accordance with the instructions and only attached to the
intended equipment!
• Particular caution is required when coupling and uncoupling the implement to or from the tractor!
• Do not step between the implement and the tractor/packer!
• Permitted axle loads, overall weights and transport dimensions must be complied with!
• Driving behaviour, steering and braking ability are inuenced by attached heavy work implements!
Therefore, sufcient steering and braking ability must be ensured; use ballast weights if
necessary!
• The inertia and centre of gravity of the implement must be taken into account when negotiating
bends; there is a danger of tipping!
• Ensure stability during coupling and uncoupling; take precautions against rolling away on
sloping terrain!
• Only perform the swivelling process if there are no persons in the danger zone!
• Spare parts must comply with at least the technical requirements specied by the implement
manufacturer!
This is always the case for original spare parts!
Appropriate use
The NE packer trailed implement is exclusively intended for usual agricultural use for soil cultivation.
Any other use is considered to be improper. The manufacturer is not liable for any damage arising
from improper use. The risk for this is borne solely by the user.
Proper use also includes compliance with the operating, maintenance and repair instructions speci-
ed by the manufacturer.
Ensure that all relevant accident-prevention regulations are observed, as well as generally accepted
safety procedures, health and safety regulations and road trafc legislation.
The Nockering Roller NE must only be used, maintained and repaired by persons who are familiar
with it and who have been instructed about the dangers.
Unauthorised modications to the implement exclude any liability of the manufacturer for damage
resulting from this.
