QTTL™ DEDICATED ADAPTER INSTRUCTIONS
For use with Quantum Qflash T, T2, T2D, X, X2, X2D
Quantum’s QTTL™ Dedicated Adapters provide new functions for coordinating Qflash functions with camera operation. And QTTL Adapters add
dedicated features of popular professional digital and film cameras to Quantum’s new Qflash T2D and X2D “
For a list of available QTTL’s and cameras compatible with them, see Section 5. Also, check the Quantum website, www.qtm.com, for the latest
additions and updates to the list.

Notes: 1) Most digital cameras use Pre-flash metering. 2) Some film cameras can be set for Pre-flash metering or TTL metering.
3. Features above are supported by QTTL adapters if the camera supports them. Check with your camera’s instruction book for the features it
supports.
2.0 Connecting the QTTL Adapter
Always turn Qflash and camera power off when connecting or disconnecting a QTTL adapter.
Slide the QTTL adapter onto the hot shoe. The QTTL adapter can be mounted onto the hot shoe in one direction only. Turn the locking ring on
the adapter to secure it to the camera. To remove, turn the locking ring in the opposite direction and slide the adapter off. Connect the QTTL
plug to Qflash.
3.0 General Operation
3.1 Ready light
Flash readiness is established when the “Rdy” indicator appears in the Qflash display. If flash ready is supported by the camera, then an LED or
flash symbol will appear in the viewfinder when the flash is ready.
3.2 Shutter speed control
If flash readiness is achieved, the camera’s automatic system switches the shutter speed to the flash sync speed.
3.3 Exposure indicators
In the TTL or Auto mode Qflash provides “Over”, “Undr”, or “OK” exposure information.
3.4 Rear curtain sync
If supported by your camera, the QTTL adapter can fire the flash with the rear curtain. Rear curtain sync is selected by a switch located on the
back of the adapter. Set it to “R” for rear curtain, or “F” for front curtain.
3.5 Auto focus assist
If your camera requires an infrared focus assist the QTTL adapter will project a beam when the camera focuses. You can turn the auto focus
assist function on [] or off [●] by a switch located on the back of the adapter.
When the auto focus assist is on, the auto focus assist light on the camera will not come on. The camera will use the light from the QTTL
Adapter.
Note: Auto focus assist is

3.6 Pre-flash TTL
Cameras that have an advanced TTL metering system require a pre-flash to determine proper exposure. This pre-flash TTL is supported only by
the new QTTL adapters and Qflash T2D and Qflash X2D. It is not supported by Qflash models T,T2, X, and X2. Please read your camera’s
instructions to determine if your camera requires a pre-flash. Many cameras have the ability to operate in both pre-flash metering and non preflash metering. Set your metering system to the one that will work with the Qflash model that you are using.

3.7 Full Dedication
When QTTL adapters are used with Qflash
this information on the camera will cause the information displayed on the Qflash to change also. The push buttons on Qflash that would
normally be used to change Film speed and Aperture will no longer function while using the QTTL Adapter.

4.0 Qflash Operating Modes
4.1 “Man” mode:
Qflash models T, T2, X, and X2
Set the desired aperture on the camera and the required power setting on Qflash. The QTTL adapter will function as a sync cord.
Qflash models T2D and X2d
Aperture and film speed information come from the camera and cannot be changed on the flash. Set the desired power setting on Qflash.
4.2 “Auto” mode
Set the aperture and the film speed the same for both Qflash and the camera. The QTTL adapter will function as a sync cord.
4.3 “A. Fill” mode
The “Auto Full” mode useful for any camera that does not support TTL ratio control. Auto Fill is also useful when you prefer the flash control
the exposure instead of a camera’s own TTL or digital cameras’ pre-flash metering. Many photographers find that with digital cameras
exposures are more consistent with the Auto Fill mode.
Auto Fill is also the method of controlling exposures of remote Qflashes using
more details.
In Auto Fill mode aperture and film speed information come from the camera and cannot be changed on Qflash. Fill flash ratio may be set using
the “⎛ Fill” switch on the QTTL adapter. Choose any setting from –3 stops below the camera’s aperture to +2 stops above the cameras
aperture, in 1/3 stop increments.

Light output is controlled by Qflash which will display an indication if the setting is out of the range of the flash. The error indications are:
“ERROR – Decrease fill flash or F#”
flash ratio on the QTTL adapter.
“ERROR – Increase fill flash or F#”
ratio on the QTTL adapter.
4.4 “TTL” mode
Set Qflash to “TTL” mode. Fill flash amount is set by using the “⎛ Fill” switch located on the top of the adapter. You may choose a setting
from –3 stops below the cameras aperture to +2 stops above the cameras aperture in 1/3 stop increments. Light output is controlled by the
sensor in the camera.
Set the film speed on the camera, then refer to the table below.
For example, the camera is set to F16 and QTTL fill flash is set to +2 stops. Either decrease the F# on the camera or decrease the fill
For example, the camera is set to F4.0 and QTTL fill flash is set to –3 stops. Increase the F# on the camera or increase the fill flash
