Precautions

You must consider the following precautions when installing a FastStor 22 unit in a rack system:

1. Maximum recommended ambient temperature is 40º C. Internal temperature of rack should be considered for continued

safe operation.

2. Do not block the product rear vents or otherwise restrict airflow to these vents when unit is installed in rack.

3. Mechanical loading of rack should be considered so that the rack remains stable and unlikely to tip over.

4. Consideration to the overall loading of the branch circuit should be given before installing any equipment in a rack

environment.

5. Ensure that reliable Earthing path is maintained in rack system. This unit is intended to be connected to Earth ground.

Rackmounting Your FastStor 22

These instructions provide detailed descriptions of the steps you must perform to install your FastStor 22 in your rack. You’ll
need a work surface to assemble the parts on before installing your FastStor 22 in the rack.

Tools Required

Unpacking the Rackmount Kit

Using the table below, verify that you have the components listed:

1. Open the shipping carton, remove the inner cardboard tray and set it on a work surface.

2. Remove the installation guide (item # 10) and the rack mount shelf (item #1) from the tray and set them on the work

surface.

3. The large rolled end of the cardboard tray contains the rear rackmount brackets (item #2). The small end of the tray

contains the front hold down bracket (item #3) and a poly bag containing all mounting hardware (items #4, 5, 6, 7, & 8).
Remove these items from the cardboard tray and set them on the work surface. Set the cardboard tray aside.

4. Open the poly bag, remove the contents, and verify that all mounting hardware is present.

Installing the Kit in Your Rack

Installing the Rear Rackmounting Brackets

Observe the mounting holes in your racks vertical rails. If the mounting holes are round, you must use the panel nuts in the kit to
mount the kit components. If the holes are square, use the cage nuts supplied in the kit to mount the kit components. Refer to the
following illustration.

The first step in rackmounting your FastStor 22 is to install the rear brackets to your racks rear vertical rails.

1. Mount the rear brackets to your racks rear vertical rails using four M5, panhead, phillips screws, four finishing washers, and

four cage or panel nuts. Note: Be sure to install the rear brackets with the mounting flange located on the outside of each
vertical rail. The brackets are symmetrical and can be installed in either position.

Installing the Rackmounting Shelf

The next step is to install the rackmounting shelf to your racks front vertical rails as shown in the following illustration.

1. Locate the rackmounting shelf. Mount this shelf to your racks front vertical rails using four M5 screws, four washers, and

four cage or panel nuts. Note: Be sure to align the mounting holes on the shelf front flanges at the same vertical height as the
rear brackets

2. Secure the shelf to the rear brackets using four M5 screws.

The next step in the process is to prepare your FastStor 22 for mounting into your rack.

Preparing the FastStor 22 for Rackmounting

To prepare your FastStor 22 for rackmounting you must first remove the four rubber feet on the bottom panel.

1. Remove the four rubber feet from the bottom panel of your FastStor 22.

2. Locate the front hold down bracket.

3. Install the hold down bracket onto the bottom panel of your FastStor using the two flat head screws in the kit. Note: If you

attempt to install the bracket wrong the flat head screws will not fit in the countersunk holes. If this happens, simply turn the
bracket over and reinstall.

Mounting Your FastStor 22 in Your Rack

1. Place the FastStor/hold down bracket assembly onto the shelf.

2. Slide the FastStor/hold down bracket assembly rearward until the guide pin on the shelf fits into the hole on the rear panel of

the FastStor. Note: The front flanges of the hold down bracket should be flush with the front of the rack vertical rails.

3. Secure the assembly to your rack using the two thumb screws and two washers.

4. Install the AC line cord, SCSI cable and SCSI terminator to the rear of the FastStor 22 by following the instructions in

Chapter 2 — Hardware Installation of the FastStor 22Installation and Operating Guide.

Your rack mounted FastStor 22 is now ready for use.
