operation and safety
A scaffold must be erected, altered, and dismantled by qualified workers or under the direct supervision
of a qualified person. The qualified person must ensure that the installation is carried out properly, and that the correct
components and materials are being used.
Inspect before use. Do not use scaffold if damaged or parts are missing.
Always use outriggers and guardrails when stacking units.
The scaffold height must not exceed three times its smallest base dimension (3 to 1 rule).
Guardrails must be installed on all open sides of a working platform where a person could fall from a height of 6 feet
(1.8 meters) or higher. Check with federal, provincial/state and local codes for variances which may be more restrictive.
Guardrails must be installed so that gate swings inward over platform.
There must be a minimum of two side braces installed in each scaffold level and evenly spaced throughout the scaffold.
Lack of adequate bracing could cause scaffold to collapse.
Securely lock all braces and platform before each use.
Always use casters locked to the side frames with the locking pins. Lock all casters before climbing.
Erect to be plumb, level, rigid and square. Erect on firm, level ground.
Never place anything under or attach anything to unit to increase height or to adjust to uneven surfaces.
Acids are corrosive and can seriously affect strength. Do not expose unit to corrosive substances.
Keep scaffold free of debris and unnecessary equipment.
Do not climb scaffold unless scaffold has been levelled and all casters are locked.
Never move a rolling scaffold when people are on it.
4
