Qualcraft Cable Grab User Manual

®
ROPE and CABLE GRABS travel freely on 5/8” vertical lifelines as a connector between the worker’s harness and the lifeline. The inertia of a fall activates the locking device.
The back of this sheet contains instructions that must be retained for OSHA compliance! Do not discard!
Guardian products meet and comply with all applicable ANSI standards and OSHA regulations.

READ CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE EQUIPMENT.
A copy of manufacturer’s instructions shall be provided to users before equipment use begins. Users are required to have a rescue plan and the means at hand to implement it when using this equipment. Grabs are designed to act as fall arrestors via connection to an approved lifeline system and full body harness.
Do not alter or misuse the equipment.
FOR PERSONAL FALL PROTECTION ONLY!
Do not use combinations of components or subsystems that may affect or
interfere with the safe function of each other. Do not expose the equipment to chemicals that may produce a harmful effect. Consult manufacturer in cases of doubt.
Do not use the equipment around moving machinery or electrical hazards. Do not use soft goods around sharp edges or abrasive surfaces or loop
around small diameter structural members.
READ INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING!
Grabs must only be used with compatible equipment. Must be attached to approved lifelines. Maximum worker capacity is 310 lbs. Do not allow more than a 6 ft.free fall distance unless system is designed specifically for greater distance. Contact OSHA for specific guidelines.
PROPER USE:
For fall arrest, attach lanyard only to the dorsal D-ring located between the middle of the shoulder blades on the harness. For ladder applications grabs can be attached to an approved chest D-ring by using a carabiner. Product Limitations include exposure to chemical hazards, corrosive agents, abrasive surfaces, electrical hazards, excessive heat, and any other element that might render the equipment unsafe. Never connect two snaphooks directly to each other.
WARNINGS BEFORE USE:
When in use, do not move the unit by holding the body of the grab. Holding the body of the grab it may restrain the locking mechanism, rendering it unable to arrest the fall. Grabs are designed for use in a personal fall arrest or restraint system with a max. weight (person and equipment) of 310 Ibs. Attach only to approved anchorage points and lifeline systems.
Never allow lifeline or grab to contact any outside objects during use. Make sure that your path is free and clear of obstructions and hazards.
Positioning the rope grab above user on the lifeline minimizes falling distance. Avoid swing falls by working directly below the anchor point whenever possible.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
To open and close rope grab: Move the lever into the up position and
unscrew the knob. Wrap around rope making sure that the arrow on the grab is pointing UP on the lifeline. Close the grab around the lifeline, put the locking lever in the down position and tighten the keeper knob. For cable grabs: Remove the locking pins and wrap the unit around the lifeline, making sure that the UP arrow is facing up on the lifeline. Close the grab around the lifeline and reinsert the pins.
Equipment should be inspected at least annually as a part of your regular
INSPECT EQUIPMENT BEFORE EACH USE!
safety program. Inspections should at the least include a check to see that all of the components of the equipment are performing properly. Common sense dictates procedures for visual inspections. When inspecting equipment, check for physical deformations, excessive wear, burns, cracks, corrosion, and that all components work properly and safely. Inspect connecting hardware and webbing of any other system components daily. If product fails inspection contact your local dealer or Guardian for replacement information.
MAINTENANCE, CLEANING, AND STORAGE
Repairs to equipment can be made only by a Guardian representative or person or entity authorized in writing by Guardian. Contact Guardian for maintenance and repair.
Remove from service all products subjected to fall arresting forces.
Guardian will replace any of its components involved in a fall arrest. Contact Guardian for policy specifics. Cleaning after use is important for maintaining the safety and life of the equipment. Cleanse the equipment of all dirt, corrosives, and contaminants. If equipment cannot simply be wiped clean use a mild commercial soap and water. Wipe and hang to dry. Store equipment where it cannot be affected by heat, light, excessive moisture, oil, chemicals, or other degrading elements.
USE ONLY 5/8 INCH (16MM) DIA. SYNTHETIC ROPE MIN. BREAKING STRENGTH 6000 LBS. (26.7 KN) MAX. 3FT. (.9m) LANYARD. FAILURE TO READ AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
