Meridian 300 Series Installation Loudspeakers
Installation Notes — In-Wall and Flush-Mount, Active and Passive units
These instructions assume that you have already installed
the rough-in back-box designed for the particular type of
loudspeaker system you are installing.
Begin by examining the loudspeaker assembly.
If you are installing a Passive system, (P3xx models)
the crossover is included in the unit.
If you are installing a Remote Active unit (A3xx
models), the package will include an appropriate active
crossover module for the G41 Powered Crossover/
Amplifier unit. See overleaf for crossover module
installation instructions.
Locate the loudspeaker terminals on the unit. There
is a pair of terminals for the tweeter and a second pair
for the woofer. Note that it is, of course, important that
the “plus” terminal on the amplifier is connected to
the “plus” terminal on the loudspeaker, and “minus”
to “minus” to avoid polarity errors that would seriously
compromise performance.
In the case of a Remote Active system, these pairs of
terminals will be connected to two pairs of loudspeaker
cable routed from the Woofer and Tweeter outputs on
the appropriate G41 channel pair.
In the case of a Passive system, the two pairs of
terminals should be linked (plus to plus, minus to minus)
if the unit is to be fed from a single power amplifier
channel. If the unit is to be bi-wired or biamped, any
links should be removed and the appropriate cable pair
connected to the correct terminals.
To install the loudspeaker
Begin by removing the dummy baffle from the installed
back-box, if this has not already been done (see left
diagram above) by removing the bolts and pulling
out the baffle. Connect the loudspeaker cables to the
appropriate terminals.
Now present the loudspeaker unit to the wall box and
push into position (see the right diagram above). The
holes around the periphery of the loudspeaker unit will
match the positions of the threaded M5 nuts around the
edges of the back-box. Fix the loudspeaker in position
in the back-box by means of the M5 x 50 button-head
socket bolts provided. On the 320, there are four holes.
On the 330, six holes; and on the 350, eight holes.
In the case of flush-mount units, this completes the
installation of the loudspeaker unit.
In the case of on-wall units, the grille may now be
fitted. The grille material is flexible and resilient and can
thus be deformed to slide under the outer painted rim of
the loudspeaker unit. We suggest inserting the top first,
then one side and the bottom. This leaves one long side
to squeeze into place, starting with the corners.

Installation Notes — G41 Crossover Modules
For complete G41 Active Crossover/Amplifier installation
and operation instructions, please see the G41 user’s
guide supplied with the unit.
Active Remote 300 Series loudspeaker assemblies (Type
numbers A3xx) are supplied with the appropriate
crossover module card for the G41. These are inserted
into the rear panel of the G41 (see diagram above).
There are four crossover module slots, each covered by a
labelled perspex cover. As supplied, the G41 is configured
for use as four pairs of bi-amped channels, each of the
four channel pairs supplying a feed to a woofer (bass
driver) and a tweeter.
The fourth channel pair can optionally be configured
as two full-range amplifier channels, eg for driving a
pair of P200Z in-ceiling units. A special cover-plate with
two phono connectors is supplied with the G41 for this
purpose, along with a self-adhesive label to re-label the
fourth channel pair outputs where appropriate. See the
G41 user manual for more information.
To install a crossover module, first ensure that the
G41 is disconnected from mains AC power.
Locate the appropriate channel, noting that channels 1
& 3 are on the left of the unit and 2 & 4 are on the right.
Remove the retaining screws holding the perspex cover
in place.
Examine the pins on the crossover module and the
sockets into which the pins locate. The module pins will
only line up with the sockets in one orientation.
Position the pins in the holes, making sure that all the
pins are correctly located. Push the module gently but
firmly into place until it stops.
Ensure that the card components are not standing proud
of the rear panel. If this is the case, check the orientation
of the card and ensure that it is fully inserted.
Replace the perspex cover.
Each type of G41 crossover module is identified as to
the type of loudspeaker for which it is designed. In
addition, a pair of coloured LEDs indicates that power
is correctly applied to the unit during operation. The
colour combination of the LEDs also indicates the type of
crossover module installed. See the G41 manual for full
details.
