Although they are designed to withstand the elements, there are precautions you should take to optimize the long-term performance of your speaker. Keep soil and wood chips from covering the speaker grill. If soil accumulates on the grill, it can be rinsed away with low water pressure. Chemicals commonly used in the yard can potentially damage the rubber elements of the speaker. Avoid spraying such chemicals onto or near the speaker. Also, avoid placing the speakers where the grill area will come in direct contact with sprinklers.
INSTALLATION & OPERATION GUIDE
PREPARATION
Remove the speaker from the box and packaging. Remove the ceiling tile from the grid where you wish to install the speaker. NOTE: If you are installing the
speaker into a 2’ x 4’ ceiling tile space, you will need to cut the tile to fit the speaker and use a common ceiling t-rail.
Pull all needed wires. Set the 70 volt/8 ohm tap selector: Use the transformer switch to match the input voltage specified by the
system designer. To do this you may need to slide the switch from 70 volt (factory default setting) to 25
volt or, in some cases, to bypass directly. This switch is located next to the power level selector switch. Both 70 volt and 25 volt settings are available, as well as a bypass to the 8 ohm driver.
Adjust the transformer “tap” setting according to the level specified by the system designer. The
ESSENTIALS and PRIVACY speakers are set at a factory default 2 watt tap setting prior to shipping. The APPLAUSE speakers are set at factory default 7.5 watt tap setting prior to shipping.
*Use in conjunction with amplifier output/rating requirements. **Do not feed 70 volt or 25 volt signal into the speakers when the 8 ohm bypass mode has been selected. This will permanently damage the speaker ***Do not exceed the maximum power rating of the speaker. The maximum power rating for each speaker is as follows: ESSENTIALS = 8 watts, PRIVACY = 4 watts, APPLAUSE = 30 watts
TERMINATION
Connect all wires.
INSTALLATION
Connect the safety cables. See warning section on page 3.Angle the SD4 to fit into the ceiling and place the speaker driver side down into the tile.
