3.1 Checkups (Function tests)

The following checkups have to be executed regularly according to the recommendation or the nationally valid laws / rules.

Safety inspections must only be handled by persons who are trained in the use of such equipment and are capable of applying it properly. The operator must be trained in the use of the device.
The UNIDOS

must be inspected at regular intervals according to national regulations at PTWFreiburg or a qualified calibration laboratory.
Safety inspections and inspections of measurement technique must also be performed after repairs or after each influence which may have changed the behavior of the device.
National valid laws or rules may regulate shorter intervals.

3.2 Constancy Test

The following tests should be executed regularly. They make it possible to recognize slow alterations of the characteristics of device or detector.

Test Detector test
Interval
Accessories
weekly - HV check at detector; only range Low
Comment
Device test
weekly - checks device only; only range Low
Long term stability weekly UNITEST check HV and all 3 measuring ranges;
no complete function test
Long term stability monthly check device no complete function test
To execute the tests correctly, please observe the instructions given in the corresponding sections of the user manual of the UNIDOS
webline
.
The test results have to be recorded from the first start of operation in order to be able to make statements about a change. Addionally for detector tests: the record has to be separate for each detector.
The checkup of the device can be performed most extensive with an UNITEST (refer to the user manual of the UNITEST).
A complete function test can take place however only through a inspection of measurement technique.

3.4 Further Tests

Ethernet-interface The Ethernet interface can be checked using the VNC Viewer.
TRIP Output The function of the TRIP OUTPUT can be checked as follows: set up the threshold and apply a signal which exceeds the threshold (e.g. using an UNITEST).
To execute the tests correctly, please observe the instructions given in the corresponding sections of the user manual of the UNIDOS
webline
.

5 Functional units

Opening of the device and working at the device must be performed only by PTW-Freiburg or by persons authorized by PTW-Freiburg.
WARNUNG
Shock Hazard – Dangerous voltages become touchable with the opening of the device. For the connecting systems BNT and TNC: the entire enclosure of the measuring module is on the potential of the high voltage. In order to switch off the device safely, it must be turned off and separated from the power line. Moreover, all connection cables must be disconnected in order to prevent contact to external voltages. At last the rechargeable batteries must be removed.

The front panel unit is a compact unit which contains and connects the subunits shown above.

I/O
The main CPU executes the firmware of the device with all aspects like graphic user interface, display control, presentation of measured values, communication with interfaces, etc. The main CPU stores all device settings, detector data and also the results of system tests.

In case of exchanging the front panel unit all these data have to be saved first and later on entered into the new front panel unit by means of the service software.
The main CPU contains also the real-time clock and the associated back-up battery.

Electrical Isolation
It stores all relevant amplifier data like calibration factors and zeroing results as well as calibration factors for measuring high voltage. With older editions of the measuring module, only the internal HV can be measured and monitored.
Since the results of the system tests are stored in the main CPU, these data are however no more comparable after a replacement of the measuring module.

6 Service Software

The service software has to fulfill three tasks:
Backup of the device settings as well as the
detector data base to a connected PC
Update of the device firmware
Restore of the device settings as well as the
detector data base
If a firmware update from PTW-Freiburg is released for the UNIDOS ware version on the newest version by means of this software.
The software uses exclusively the RS232 interface for communications.

, the user can update the firm-

A firmware update over the Ethernet interface is not possible.
The software will probably be available in June
2006.
