Version 1.5 of Record makes the program compatible with Reason version 5. This document introduces
both the new features in Record by itself, and the features that become available when you run Record together with Reason version 5.
For detailed descriptions, please refer to the Operation Manual. Also, don’t miss the tutorial videos, available from within the program and on the Propellerhead web site!
New features in Record
Neptune Pitch Adjuster and Voice Synth
The Neptune device is a combined monophonic vocal pitch corrector, pitch shifter and polyphonic voice
synth. It can correct the pitch of an audio signal (according to a set scale or incoming MIDI notes), transpose audio and change its formants. In Voice Synth mode, you use MIDI notes to add voices - harmonies to the source signal.
Stretch clips by resizing
You can scale audio clips, note clips or automation clips by pressing [Option] (Mac) or [Ctrl] (Windows) and
dragging the resize handles of the clip. You can also do this by specifying the desired length of a clip in the
Scale Tempo section in the Tool window.
Normalize and Reverse Clips
These functions on the Edit menu or clip context menu lets you normalize an audio clip (adjust the gain of
the audio so that the highest level is 0dB) or reverse its contents.
Recording notes on multiple tracks
You can now play and record MIDI notes from a keyboard that is locked to a device in the rack. This means
you can e.g. lock a pad controller to a Kong device (or an ID-8 if you’re using Record without Reason),
while having your regular keyboard playing the track selected in the track list, and so on. Any number of
MIDI tracks can be recorded at the same time.

Blocks
The arrangement in the sequencer now has two basic views: the Song view, which is exactly the same as
the “Arrange Mode” in previous versions of the program, and the Block view. In the Block view you can create up to 32 different Blocks - shorter multi-track sections of music. For example, a Block could be an intro, a verse, a chorus or just a basic beat, with clips on any combination of tracks.
In the regular Song view, you arrange your blocks by drawing Block Automation Clips on the Block track.
This lets you move sections around, repeat them and try different arrangement, freely and non-destructively. You can combine Block playback with regular audio and note clips for a perfect marriage of linear
and non-linear arrangement.

Miscellaneous
Tap Tempo
The Tap Tempo button in the Transport panel lets you use the mouse or any control on a Remote controller to set the tempo.
Manual Rec mode
In Manual Rec mode, no tracks are automatically record enabled when you select them. This is the mode
to use when you want to focus on editing and mixing rather than recording.
Mute tool
You can now mute clips by clicking on them with the Mute tool. This is especially handy when working with
Blocks.
Loop functions
There are menu functions for setting the loop (left and right locators) around the selected clip(s) and, optionally, starting playback in loop mode. You can also use key commands or Remote to move the loop in
the arrangement.
Improved key commands for laptop use
Many of the transport items that previously required a full-size computer keyboard with a numeric pad, now
have additional keyboard shortcuts on the main part of the computer keyboard.
Combinator changes
There are four additional CV inputs on the back of the Combinator. These are available as sources in the
programmer. Also, the programmer now has hierarchical submenus, making it easier to work with parameter-heavy devices such as Thor.

New features in Record+Reason
The following features are available if you use Record together with Reason version 5:
Sampling and Sample Management
In Reason version 5, all sample players have been upgraded to full fledged samplers!
You can sample directly into Redrum, NN19, NN-XT and Kong, from any audio input (or re-sample the
output from another Reason device).
All samples (including samples you have loaded from disk or from a ReFill) can be edited: Cropped, faded,
looped, reversed and more.
Samples are managed in the Tool window, and the new Song Samples location in the Browser provides
quick access to all samples used in the song. Also, loaded samples can now automatically be self-contained in your song if you like. This includes samples from ReFills, making it easier than ever to collaborate
and share your music.

Dr. Octo Rex Loop Player
The Dr. Octo Rex Loop Player is the successor to the trusty Dr.Rex Loop Player, introduced in the very first
version of Reason. Dr. OctoRex can load up to eight different loops at the same time, either as individual
REX files or using the new drex patch format. You can then switch between loop slots in real time via MIDI
or by using pattern automation. The updated Factory Sound Bank comes with a number of patches and
loops designed for this, such as drum patterns complete with variations, buildups and fills.
Dr. Octo Rex will also give you more control over the loop slices, with a number of new slice parameters:
Reverse, Filter Cutoff, Alternate and the option to send different slices to different outputs for external processing.
The Slice Edit Mode lets you edit all slice parameters graphically, directly in the loop display.

Kong Drum Designer
Kong is an advanced, semi-modular drum sound synthesizer, sample player and REX loop/slice player with
many unique features. It comes with a huge selection of ready-made kits and individual drum patches in
the updated Factory Sound Bank, but also makes it easy to sculpt and design your own drum and percussion sounds - or any type of sound, for that matter.
There are sixteen pads, each capable of playing its own drum sound. The main panel gives you immediate
control over basic sound settings, pad linking, mutes and more.
For full control, unfold the device to show the Drum and FX slots. Each sound is created by a drum module
followed by two insert fx slots, which can hold effects or additional sound generators. For global effect processing, Kong has a bus effect and a master effect slot.
WHAT’S NEW
9
There are nine different drum modules, ranging from samplers and loop players to synths and physical
models.
For the FX slots, there are two support sound generators and nine different effects, designed specifically
for drum processing.
Of course, Kong features individual audio outputs, external sends, CV connections and even audio input,
for running other devices through its bus and master effects. And last but not least: you can change the
look of the Kong panel by loading your own backdrops.
