LEDJ RAINBOW TUBE CONTROLLER INTRODUCTION
Your Rainbow Tube Controller carton should contain the following:
1. The Controller itself
2. A 12V DC power supply
3. A mains cable with a 13A plug on one end and a 3 pin round plug on the other end.
Introduction
This Dedicated controller will allow you to control your Rainbow Tubes. You can choose one of
the internal programs, or when used with a DMX controller you can create your own
programmes.
Connecting the Tubes to the Controller
1. Using the mains cable supplied, connect the first tube, then continue to link via the 3-pin
connectors from one tube to the next up to a maximum of 60 tubes. If you wish to use more
than 60 tubes then you will require another mains cable to power the next 60 tubes and so
on.
2. Plug the 4 pin round socket (that is connected to your controller by a short lead) into the 4 pin
plug on your first Rainbow Tube, then continue to link all your tubes together in series.
3. Plug the 12V power supply into the socket on the back of the controller
4. You can now power up your tubes and controller.
5. Press the SET UP button, and the LCD screen will read “Tube: 0000”. You have to set the
number of Rainbow Tubes that you have connected to the dedicated controller. Press the UP
or DOWN buttons to select the quantity of tubes. Press the MODE button to go to the
programme mode.
6. Press the MODE button to go through the different programmes.
7. To adjust the interval, and speed time and flash rate of a programme, choose your
programme and press the SET UP button.
Note: Programmes 1 – 5 and 30 do not have adjustable features.

Select R,G,B Dimming by pressing the UP and DOWN key.
• Unit times: Running times for each type of display in auto-run mode.
• Set address: (Yes): Please set sequential addressing for all of the Rainbow Tubes
(set address when starting up for the first time, or amending array order, or
quantity minus or plus so as to get the correct display) The address will be stored
in the Rainbow Tube once it is set.
• Very large arrays and patterns of Rainbow Tubes can be created by using multiple
Rainbow Tube Controllers and setting the start address to follow on from the finish
address of the previous controller.
• DMX Channel: (0): No DMX control, via the Keypad on the top of the Controller.
LEDJ RAINBOW TUBE CONTROLLER PROGRAMMES (CONT)
When used with a DMX controller:
The DMX starting address can be any value from 1 – 509.
For example: One DMX controller controls 2 pieces of Rainbow Tube controller. Set
the first controller’s DMX address value as “1”, it would occupy channels 1 - 4, then
the second one’s DMX address value should be set as “5”, and it would
occupy channels 5 – 8 etc.
3. UP: Plus parameter
4. Down: parameter
5. Enter DMX mode with DMX signal and receive 4 channel DMX signals, adjust the
starting address (1 – 512) by pressing “UP” or “DOWN” buttons.
• The fourth DMX channel (0 – 255) selects “2 colour flow” or “2 colour chase”

LEDJ RAINBOW TUBE CONTROLLER DMX SET UP
DMX-512:
• DMX (Digital Multiplex) is a universal protocol used as a form of communication
between intelligent fixtures and controllers. A DMX controller sends DMX data
instructions form the controller to the fixture. DMX data is sent as serial data that travels
from fixture to fixture via the DATA “IN” and DATA “OUT” XLR terminals located on all
DMX fixtures (most controllers only have a data “out” terminal).
DMX Linking:
• DMX is a language allowing all makes and models of different manufactures to be
linked together and operate from a single controller, as long as all fixtures and the
controller are DMX compliant. To ensure proper DMX data transmission, when using
several DMX fixtures try to use the shortest cable path possible. The order in which
fixtures are connected in a DMX line does not influence the DMX addressing. For
example; a fixture assigned to a DMX address of 1 may be placed anywhere in a DMX
line, at the beginning, at the end, or anywhere in the middle. When a fixture is assigned
a DMX address of 1, the DMX controller knows to send DATA assigned to address 1 to
that unit, no matter where it is located in the DMX chain.
DATA Cable (DMX cable) requirements (for DMX operation):
• The LEDJ Rainbow Tube controller can be controlled via DMX-512 protocol. The DMX
address is set via the LCD display and keyboard on the control unit. Your DMX Rainbow
Tube controller requires a standard 3-pin XLR connector for data input/output (figure 1).
Further DMX cables can be
purchased from all good sound and
lighting suppliers or Prolight dealers.

Also remember that DMX cable must be daisy chained and
cannot be split.

Notice:
• Be sure to follow figures 2 & 3 when making your own cables. Do not connect
the cable’s shield conductor to the ground lug or allow the shield conductor to
come in contact with the XLR’s outer casing. Grounding the shield could cause a
short circuit and erratic behaviour.
Special Note: Line termination:
• When longer runs of cable are used, you may need to use a terminator on the
last unit to avoid erratic behaviour.
Termination reduces signal
transmission problems and
interference. It is always
advisable to connect a DMX
terminal, (resistance 120 Ohm
1/4W) between Pin 2 (DMX-) and
Figure 4
Using a cable terminator (part number CABL90) will decrease the
possibilities of erratic behaviour.
5-Pin XLR DMX Connectors:
• Some manufactures use 5-pin XLR connectors for data transmission in place of
3-pin. 5-Pin XLR fixtures may be implemented in a 3-pin XLR DMX line. When
inserting standard 5-pin XLR connectors in to a 3-pin line a cable adaptor must
be used. The Chart below details the correct cable conversion.
