FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE
The treadmill console offers a selection of features designed to make your workouts more effective and enjoyable. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button. As you exercise, the console will display continuous exercise feedback. You can even measure your heart rate using the builtin pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 23).
The console also features four personal trainer programs. Each program automatically controls the speed and incline of the treadmill as it guides you through an effective workout. In addition, the console offers four calorie goal programs that control the speed and incline of the treadmill to help you burn unwanted pounds.

HOW TO USE THE STEREO SOUND SYSTEM
During both heart rate programs, the console will regularly compare your heart rate to the current target heart rate setting. If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate setting, the speed of the walking belt will automatically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate setting. If the speed of the walking belt reaches 12 Km/H and your heart rate is still too far below the target heart rate setting, the incline of the treadmill will also increase.
If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low at any time during the program, you can adjust the setting with the Speed or Incline buttons. However, each time the console compares your heart rate to the target heart rate setting, the speed and/or incline of the treadmill may automatically change to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate.
To play music or audio books through the console’s stereo speakers, you must connect your MP3 player or CD player to the console. Plug one end of the included
3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo audio cable into a jack on your MP3 player or CD player. Plug the other end of the cable into the input jack on the console. Make sure
that both ends of the audio cable are fully plugged in.
Next, press the Play button on your MP3 player or CD player. Then, adjust the volume of your MP3 player or CD player.
If you are using a portable CD player and the CD skips, set the CD player on the floor or another flat surface instead of on the console.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please see the front cover of this manual.
PROBLEM: The power does not turn on
SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a properly earthed outlet (see page 14). If an exten-
sion cord is needed, use only a 3-conductor, 1 mm (5 ft.). Important: The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets.
b. After the power cord has been plugged in, make sure that the key is inserted into the console.
c. Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill
near the power cord. If the switch protrudes as shown, the circuit breaker has tripped. To reset the circuit breaker, wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in.
d. Check the on/off switch located on the treadmill
near the power cord. The switch must be in the “on” position.

CONDITIONING GUIDELINES
WARNING: Before beginning this
or any exercise program, consult your physi-
ian. This is especially important for individu-
c als over the age of 35 or individuals with preexisting health problems.
The pulse sensor is not a medical device. Various factors, including your movement, may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings. The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general.
The following guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program. For more detailed exercise information, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician.
EXERCISE INTENSITY
Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system, the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity. The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide. The chart below shows recommended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise.
begin to use stored is to burn fat, adjust the speed and incline of the tread-
ill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in
m your training zone.
For maximum fat burning, adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone.
Aerobic Exercise
If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular system, your exercise must be “aerobic.” Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time. This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles, and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood. For aerobic exercise, adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone.
WORKOUT GUIDELINES
Each workout should include the following three parts:
A Warm-up—Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise. A proper warm-up increases your body temperature, heart rate and circulation in preparation for exercise.
fat calories
for energy. If your goal
To find the proper heart rate for you, first find your age near the bottom of the chart (ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years). Next, find the three numbers above your age. The three numbers define your “training zone.” The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning; the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise.
Fat Burning
To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time. During the first few minutes of exercise, your body uses easily accessible ergy. Only after the first few minutes does your body

for en-
Training Zone Exercise—After warming up, increase the intensity of your exercise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes. (During the first few weeks of your exercise program, do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes.) Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise—never hold your breath.
A Cool-down—Finish each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching to cool down. This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent postexercise problems.
EXERCISE FREQUENCY
To maintain or improve your condition, complete three workouts each week, with at least one day of rest between workouts. After a few months, you may complete up to five workouts each week if desired. The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life.
